Glad to see how I worked out how to do it, some years ago, was the right way! But it took me time then and it's good to see these things made clear.

Or another way: You can just hit mark delete, change the speed to 0% (on the advanced tab right of timeline) and hit mark delete where you want the picture to unfreeze and set the time to 100% - so no menus etc - much quicker but thanks for the head's up. These shortcut keys are always helpful.

That is another great way to achieve the same effect. There are 3-4 different ways to go about achieving a freeze frame in Lightworks. We may cover them all in future videos.

You're welcome! Thanks for creating your LW demos too. FYI... The new Beta was released yesterday if you want to check it out, lots of cool new features in there!

Thank you! Great tip. In fact you saved me from asking in the forum about it :-) P.S. can you do a tip on how to do a deceleration from normal speed to a slow motion segment? (rather then a sudden speed jump)
@LWKSVIDEO
@LWKSVIDEO 2 года назад
Hi Andrei. It's not something that can currently be done in Lightworks unfortunately. We do have a feature request section on the forum, please feel free to post it there: forum.lwks.com/forums/feature-requests.12 I will also pass it on to our product manager.

@@LWKSVIDEO thank you, I did that. Furthermore, experimenting, I found how to do it manually. Having 50fps helps. Cut a short clip like 0.2 sec, set it to 90%. Cut next another one, set to 80%, and so on. This can for example can progressively slow to a 50% slow motion...

Thank you -- handy tip! And I'm happy to see that it works as I would have guessed, which tells me that I am making some progress at learning lwks. Follow-up question: the place I would most likely use a freeze-frame is when I lack sufficient incoming or outgoing footage for a transition. Now I know this work-around. But it would be quite convenient if there were an option, when trying to add a transition where insufficient overlap exists, to automate adding a freeze-frame of just the length needed for eg a dissolve transition between clips. [And while I'm here asking questions, is it possible to make a keyboard shortcut to skip forward or backward 1s or 10s? I know a/s for prev/next cut and LEFT/RIGHT arrows for back/forward 1 frame.]
@LWKSVIDEO
@LWKSVIDEO 2 года назад
Unfortunately, there is no functionality currently to do that with transitions and freeze frames. You could create a macro to do the jump forward/backwards. Macros can be created on the Key Assignments panel. Open Lightworks to the project browser, click ‘System Settings’ then click ‘Key assignments’ on the panel that opens click the settings icon (three vertical dots) select ‘Create a macro’
@ashmanskas
@ashmanskas 2 года назад
@@LWKSVIDEO Terrific -- thanks. Creating a macro worked for jumping ahead/back by 300 frames. My first lwks macro!
@andreisrr

There is an option to set clips on alternating tracks (A/B style editing) with configurable overlap. I don't remember exactly how it's done but I know it exists. It may help. You can then add transitions easier. But mind you, you always have to shoot with start/end to spare.

Thanks of starting these tip videos. I know you can change the speed of a clip by marking and parking and then hitting Alt+V, but is there a way to squish or stretch that clip live on the timeline, kind how they do in Davinci Resolve?
@LWKSVIDEO
@LWKSVIDEO 2 года назад
You can right click a clip and choose ‘Speed’.
@tubbytoons
@tubbytoons 2 года назад
@@LWKSVIDEO Oh I see there is a "Resize" option. That can work but I was actually hoping for the ability to pull the handles and it would stretch the clip.

How about a shudder frame? Freeze frame->hold 200ms->advance 200ms rinse and repeat. A macro would be nice.

0:56 "We've effectively isolated this frame but it is still a single frame of footage rather than a still image" Isn't that one an the same since video is made up of single images? What is the point of setting the speed to 0?
@LWKSVIDEO
@LWKSVIDEO 2 года назад
Effectively yes, a single frame of video is just an image. But from a practical standpoint Lightworks treats images different to video, and with this process it will still view the frame as a video file rather than an image file.

Thanks for this, speed 0% is great. But it will completely ruin the audio flow. My actors tell stories that need to proceed or the music in your clip just needs to continue as the snow freezes at a high peak. What is the easiest way to hold the video (or insert new video) while the audio proceeds. (Which of your lessons discusses this? Does Ctrl F work, and where does it save frames in windows? Do I need to make a subclip?)
@LWKSVIDEO
@LWKSVIDEO 2 года назад
Hi Robert. If you separate the audio track from the video track, then anything you do to the video track won't impact the audio. So you'd be able to set to 0% speed while audio continues. Hope that helps!
@anonym9669
@anonym9669 2 года назад
Hello Robert, there are different ways to select the tracks to edit, or the tracks not to edit (e.g. by clicking on the track name). If it is only about trimming then all tracks can remain active, and simply by holding down the Alt key the mode can be switched which decides whether my selecting a video cut, automatically also an audio cut is selected for trimming (there are even more possibilities). " ... and where does it save frames in windows?" Although there are two key commands for creating PNG images ... "Save current frame" "Save current sequence frame" ...which you can assign yourself to keys (which store image files in the default Windows Pictures folder); but this is unnecessary for creating frozen frames, which in the workflow shown in the video directly access the frame in the imported video file.
