You just killed the whole market of overpriced hobby paint booths. A great process which is explained perfectly. Thanks for saving us a ton of money. :)
I can get something in that size, made from plastic and not cardboard for 60 bucks now. that is not expensive or worse quality than this cardboard one. So no, he did not destroy any market. He helps out the poor painters, maybe.
@@fckprc8149 congratulations on belonging to the 5% of the audience that can afford usd60 on amazon for a box. The rest is for the poor painters of course. You won your twat medal of social classing now, congratulations for the public announcement of your outstanding character.
really like your video on how to make your own spray booth , the only problem is not all of us have a 3-D printer to print out the parts that you have shown in your diagram , maybe you should consider making these parts and offering to purchase because I would be interested but thank you so much I did download the drawings
Wow!! Awesome video! Why spend over $100.00 on a spray booth, when you can custom make one to suit your needs, for so much less? Thank you for this!!!!
Am I missing something? I didn’t hear/can’t find any mention of what the filter used is/what it’s called/where to get it etc. :S Anyone know what type it is?
Hello there. This link is to the shop I bought from: www.nmj.no/sparmax-438841-filter-sb-88-1021471.html Don’t think they send global? But there you should have the name and article number for it, as it is sold several places😉 Have a good one, cheers
This is great, what type/brand of magnets did you use? Just printed mine out and in the process of making an adapter for mine since my hose is 6 inches or so.
Good video, but I would have liked to have seen the actual ventilation installation instead of just jumping over it. Just saying, "i let professionals do it" doesn't really give any info and loses a bit of the "DIY" concept. And that ventilator was over €120.00
Checking with your friends. I got a ventilation box that was replaced in a friend’s house. He replaced it because it was “old” and “energy hungry”. But it’s still silent and if it can ventilate a three-story house, it’ll probably work for a booth 😅 and it’s free.
Pretty sure that part is left out for liability reasons. His wording definitely makes it seem so that people who do choose to follow this take extreme caution to make sure any paint/contaminants are exhausted from the space/living space to the outside and away from doing harm to anyone.
@@TacoLibreF-CKYT"liability reasons"? If that was the case, then the video could have shown and explained everything, but put a "do this at your own risk" warning at the beginning. That works even for videos where people show how to make incredibly dangerous things like Jacobs Ladders which use microwave oven transformers that can kill you. I'm sure that your liability excuse is just an excuse, and it was left out of the video due to 1) being expensive 2) the uploader paid someone else to do something they didn't want or know how to do Liability is as simple as a warning that says "this video is for educational purposes, and if you follow it, you have to accept that you are engaged in a dangerous blah blah blah. Talk to a lawyer, it's that easy.

I have watched over two dozen videos on building a spray booth. This is by far the very best one out there. Highly recommend and I will be using this video as inspiration to make mine. Thank you for posting.
Is the diagram in the PDF wrong. The measurements for the top and bottom of the vacuum chamber are the same, but the side pieces are oblong triangles. This seems like it wouldn't fit correctly.
Change the bottom filter brackets to have outer ledges the filter sets into from the top, that way you only need 2 brackets with rubber bands to hold it in place.
This was elegant and inspiring to watch. Whenever I get motivated to build one, I will definitely use your model and template. For now, saved into my favourites
very nice! indeed, I already printed the duct connector, and frame corner, I 'm starting printing the frame! Do you have by any chance the stl for the led support you have at the top ? thanks !
To keep expenses down you can use all kinds of free plastic bottles to slide vacuum hoses on, and I bet you also can use a disposable kitchen wipe thingy as a filter.

Link to that fan? Is that one of these "explosion proof" fans? I planned to build my own airbrush box like this, but then found out I could potentially be creating a bomb. So I don't know what to do. Pre constructed booths are over $100, but explosion proof fans seem to be at least twice that. For just the fan Help?
I love your videos man!! You may not post all the time, but when you do I know it will be quality content and will always make me smile through some simple but genius techniques that you use!
@@PropsNstuff thanks alot, if i wanted to get into this stuff, making helmets /busts/ 20-30cm figures, what printers would work (cheapish models) ? and do they cost the same to make as the store made ones, seeing the price on risen kinda high?? would a Elegoo Neptune 2S FDM printer work togetther with a Elegoo saturn with more work after print.?? I wanted to get into this, slowly, then expand to stop and motion + (AI Green screen) recordings/pc work down the line whit my work. 2. if you know somewhere there is a compleet guide on what to buy to get into this , printer - paint- airbrush - filaments and resin types. i was thinking at first you could start whit FDM + normal brush painting. then scale it after u get better whit resin and airbrush?
Anyone that is going to build this Please read my comment before buying the boxes. great job, thanks for sharing. One comment or suggestion to anyone who is thinking of building. I am in the middle of building the airbrush booth. What I didnt notice was the boxes you need. Most box's flaps are only half size to cover the opening. In the video , the box wide flap is big enough to cover the whole opening. I had to tape another flap to the large one to make it work. Im not sure where you can find a box like that. I found a heavy duty box at lowes that was twice as thick as a normal box. it cost twice as much too. but it defiantly stronger. for the filter mounts. i use a regular 4" brace and used two small bolts to mount to cardboard. the corner brace was two exspensive to buy 4. perhaps if you find them at a discount store or flea market. I didnt want to pay $6 for 2. as far as the exhausts mount. i doing something totatly different. I will post photo's when Im finish
I'm in the process of building a cardboard paint booth and appreciate the solutions to issues I haven't even realized. But I have one issue; spray paint is going to cover the lights! Or did I miss that? I'm adding a small groove on the top of each box to allow a saran wrap roll to pull thru to keep the LEDs clean. To eliminate the possible build up of paint on the fan blades I'm utilizing the Ventura effect and a recycled computer cooling fan. These are powerful, small and very quiet.
Great work, the result looks very professional. Now get the title right, because "making (...) homemade" is redundant. Better: "Make a Spraybooth at Home".
A bit late to the party... I'm using Fusion 360 to remake the spraybooth to fit the space that I got available in my room. Your blueprints serve as guideline for me. However, I realised that there are no angular dimensions on the prints. I'm a bit stuck atm with the vacuum chamber, because I'm missing the angles. Could you help? Thanks!
Much obliged👌The booth was always meant to be fully customizable. So give it a go and good luck👊Cheers…and watch out for our new video next week of »diy airbrush filters» might give you some ideas.
This is a fundamentally great design that lends itself well to customization. I was about to plunk down a lot of money for a professional fume extractor box but this is much more practical for my needs. It's perfect for 90% of the modelling out there except for those big ship modellers. For you multifamily condo hobbyist, you can add a charcoal filter on top of your existing filter to avoid complaints from your neighbors.
I want to use your duct connection system to move around my ventilation to other small booths. Do you know if there is a version of the connector that flies to the box that would instead fit over a 4 in duct ? No clue to what the diameter would need to be to slip it over .
Hey there Joe😉 Glad you liked it😁 But sadly I didn't keep the files I made for the LED rack. I'll make sure to put in a link if I get around to draw them up again. Shouldn't take that long since I have the printouts👌 Anyway, have a good one. Cheers
I thought the video was so great. I recreated it right away. But unfortunately not enough power. Too little airflow. Although I installed a 280m³/h ventilator. And I saw that you only have a 160/100? ventilator. Pity :/ Edit: ok if i attach ventilator directly to the box. it's much better
Can you please explain how and where to place the ventilator? Inside the tube? Inside the box? Thank you and sorry, i’m a noob, i would like to give that a try but i’m so confused about the ventilator
In the blueprints that you have, is that in centimeters or what is it in inches? That way I know when I want to make it that I'm doing the right measurements
Awesome vid, I want to try this! I may have missed it but what make of filter panel did you use for this? Is it something like ones for kitchen use, air purifiers etc? Thanks! 😃🐯zord
QUESTION: How often does the overspray from the airbrush/spray can find its way on the lights. Do you find you sometimes need to replace the light strips or is that even a problem?
I think that if this becomes a problem it would be simple to mount a sheet of clear Perspex, or similar, below the lights in such a way that it can be easily slid out for cleaning or replacement.
All you'll need is some cardboard boxes, tape and a box cutter. Oh and also this filter, this duct, this extractor fan, an FDM 3D printer and filament, a sheet of MDF, a circular saw workbench and clamps to cut the MDF to size, some magnets, a heat gun, contact cement, wood glue, LED light strips, a soldering iron, wires, a dimmer etc...
I have been thinking about building my own spray booth and yours has a similar design that I had in mind. I like the light "whatchamacallit". Do you have a link to an STL for it? The black color made it hard to see the details but I would like to implement it in my spray booth. Thanks again for all your hard work!!!
The blueprint has some inaccuracies. You can see this in the fact that all of the edges meet. There is no overlap. With that in mind The left trapezoid should have a side that is equal length to one of the top or bottom trapezoids but all of them are different
I’m sure you’re absolutely correct…thank god I’m an amateur. But since we’re dealing with making stuff out of cardboard boxes hopefully it will all fit together nicely anyways
@@PropsNstuff it really did come together great. I wound up painting mine green (leftover wall paint I had). It looks so good, I plan on painting The bubble on the back brown been doing it up like a turtle 🐢. Thanks again for the plans!
Sorry....I may have missed it, but are the measurements in centimeters, inches, etc.? Also, where did you hook the ventilation fan too and run the hoses to the outside? Thank you.
If you go to your local scrap yard you might find a over the stove fan and make one of those into a home made spray booth. I have came across a few of them I put one on my metal grinding table to catch the metal dust it seems to work well I have to change the filter often. For painting I'm shire it would work well it sucks the food smoke from the stove top why not paint. Plus they're at the scrap yard tossing it out for a few buck's or they might even give it to you? Stove top fan will work well for a home made booth. I'm shire a card board box with a fan behind it will work too.
Thank you for watching mate👍the link is in the description. And watch out for our new video next week of «diy airbrush filters». Cheers and have a good one😁
Well mine is connected to outside ventilation so if you can do that or guide it out through your window I would absolutely recommend it. Have a good one👍
Lovely! this settles it, im just gonna make my own booth with the jula fan :D And as a fellow Norwegian id love love LOVE it if you did a list of your fav sources for things like foam, paint, glue ,resin , etc :D
Omg this is awesome! I'm hoping to get an airbrush for christmas to help with my hobby, but I want to do it in my room and not in my basement or garage. So this is probably the best thing I can do. Awesome video! and thanks for the guide
That sounds great😉 And yes, it’s a massive help for when you have a “Hobby room" inside the house. Good luck buddy, and thank you for the kind words😁 Have a good one, cheers
I've built a similar cardboard box spray booth and they really do work well. Also doubles as a useful space to store and use your airbrush cleaning gear. *** Cautionary note - be sure to only use a brushless or "spark-less" fan. Many fans (and I think this includes computer fans) have brush motors. You absolutely do not want a spark to ignite an extracted stream of volatile paint vapours. Test (outside the building!) by spraying a cupful of lacquer thinners at the filter. If you don't explode you're good to go :)
Hey do you think you could recommend a fan system that fits those categories you mentioned cause I’m having trouble finding one at a good price, especially that it seems all of them are in the $70-100 range and for those prices I can just buy a pre made booth
@@fenri3261 If I recall correctly I bought an AC current bathroom exhaust fan that was brushless. I'm in South Africa so I can't really say what's available in your country, but I think it was in the $25 price range.
@@fenri3261 Just use a marine bilge blower, they are made for evacuating potentially explosive gasses from the engine compartment of boats and cost $20-$60.
Fans from 90s-00s were "brushed". It's decades that even the cheapest pc fan is brushless. And of course using water-based colours (like most AK, Games, and some vallejo) doesn't need any flammable thinner, just adding water to dilute them. 100% safe.
How do you get that suction? After adding the airducts the suctions is about zero. It totally fails the hold-paper-test. What fan do you use. I bought Biltema 37 W. It have a 187 m³/h capacity. Feels like I need at least twice that.
Hi, I would like to recreate your cabin. Can I use a simple duct fan 100mm 130m3/h for this? this one is a lot cheaper. I also ask myself the question: do I have to make it adjustable if the trigger is too strong? The last question: I want to spray in the room, is the suction sufficient to prevent paint mist in the apartment and do you still use a protective mask? Thank you very much Thorsten
Hello from Belgium, I like your video, I would ask two question please, Where's position for air extractor? Where do you used superglue and contact cement please? Thanks a lot for your great work.
Looking for something just like this. NYC co-op, u understand. Like the design elements and cardboard is cheap. I will likely see what parts can be made to easily disassemble for storage.. Likely magnets.clamps and luggage locks. BTW, yourself and a few other diy'ers are using "contact cement" wrong. When using it, you coat both sides of the parts to be glued, and let dry. Yes! Let dry. You then carefully align the parts carefully close together, near the exact final position and let the parts "contact" each other. Minor pressure is recommended but not needed. Its what was used before cyanoacrylates became popular. Once the prepared parts were dry, all that was needed was a quick touch for the final bond. Instant fix. Check the label for more instructions 🙂 The for your design.
All right, great thing to keep hands busy and do everything by yourself. But money wise, all components you buy , couldn’t it be cheaper to buy spray box made by some company? It’s 100 $.
Hello. I have been planning to build one since some time. Well, I just started to gather components checking my local DIY stores. But I can not find the filter cartrige. Could tell me please, what kind of filter is it? Would be easier for me to get one over internet or on shops...Thank you on advance. Cheers. Greg
Hello there Greg😉 Yes of course. The filter is called “Filter one” from a company called sparemax. I believe it is sold in several hobby shops online, that delivers around the world. Hope you find it, good luck with your build Sir. Cheers
wow, thanks so much for sharing this- I was hoping to save some money by building a spray booth but worried about approaching it as a newbie, but this is such a helpful guide and a really excellent design!
I’ve followed almost all these steps and printing, but I did have one issue, as I can’t find the STLs for the light bar/hanging rack and would love to se if I could get it if you could release them!
Get higher end duck tape, the stuff that is more durable and very sticky. I bought some cheap grey coloured rolls and they came off and weren't worth a fuck. Get the good quality black kind.
Love the vid! Such a great idea. Now, if my eyes are correct could there be a Jean Grey/Phoenix figurine video coming in the future? That torso you hung at the end has an uncanny resemblance with what I believe is her logo. Also, the hand gestures and sash in the stand would strengthen that observation. Could be Songbird too since the Thunderbolts are becoming more relevant, but I think it’s too detailed and only bears a slight similarity.
Hi PropsNstuff! There is an error on your PDF drawing. The drawing part 2. The part with the round whole does not have the correct side dimensions. You copied from the bottom piece.
Hello! I'm starting the process of building a booth according to your specs but I feel like I am not well equiped to chose the right fan. Can you direct me to a good recommended product?
Excellent stuff I’ve just got back into model making 👍 the last model I made I was probably 13 ish I’m now 61 😂😂 I’ve got plenty of time on my hands these days and if I do something I always try to do it to the best of my ability, you’ve come up with some cracking ideas and executed very well plus this looks as much fun to build as the models themselves ☺️☺️ Thank you for a super video 👍
