This video is quite old and my whole setup was not great. Take this with a grain of salt and you should not use this as a reference point to using the Gaggia Classic Pro. I made this when I first got that machine and had not learned the hacks to temperature surf on it yet, or even espresso basics. Watch this as a reference for what not to do! Thanks!

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the feedback on this. I had no idea people would watch this. I literally just uploaded this for a friend to see my machine. I have a better angle now on my camera on my Instagram. Instagram.com/QuinCarter if you wanna give me a follow there!

Saw a big mistake that you might want to avoid in the future. Once that portafilter is in the group head, you want to start your shot immediately. You left the Portafilter in the group head with the coffee for one whole minute which results in a dramatic affect on your shot. It will heat up the coffee and will speed up the shot time causing more sour flavors. It’s also going to result in completely inconsistent shots if you’re changing the time you’re leaving the porta filter in the group head before you actually start the shot.

I recently heard a tip from someone to optimize steam pressure to get a great roll/vortex on the gaggia classic. When you purge the steam wand, purge a little extra steam out so that the light goes off again. From there, I wait about 15 seconds and then start steaming before the light comes back on. When the light is off, that means the heating element is on and it is actively making steam. By starting it before the light comes back on, the machine will contantly be making more steam while you're frothing your milk and you won't run out of steaming power. This allows you to pretty easily get a nice and steady roll going the entire time. Nice setup!

I actually tried this steam wand trick after you commented. I can say that this works. It's still pretty inconsistent without PID.

Josh Mayo Thank you very much for that advice! You saved me! Tell me, is the same if I start steam just before first Steam light? I mean at beginning after coffee brew and afer click on steaming button, around 20sec.?

In short, if the steam light is on the heating element shuts off and can ran out if steam during frothing.

You can do this same thing by never letting the light come on. I turn the steam on, wait 15 seconds, then start steaming.

Hi. For clean steam wand use some wet cloth.. When taping jug on table, put your hand on top, so you not to spill milk around. This is good machine.
@QuinCarter
@QuinCarter 4 года назад
Thanks for that! I never thought about putting my hand on top haha

Hey bro, Where did you buy a bottomless portafilter for gaggia? Thank you.
@QuinCarter
@QuinCarter 3 года назад
I think I got it on Amazon. But really any 58mm portafilter with the notches at one and seven should work. Also, espressoparts.com is a pretty good site. You may be able to find it there

Rough estimate on your grinder setting? I'm having a hard time getting mine dialed in.
@QuinCarter
@QuinCarter 3 года назад
Like 3 on the macro ring and between e and f on macro. Depends on bean though!

What settings did you use for the baratza sette 270 for that shot?
@QuinCarter
@QuinCarter 3 года назад
I don't remember exactly. But it depends on my bean I use and how far off roast they all are. I range between about 2-5 on the macro wheel depending on the bean.

Hey I just saw this. I got it on Amazon I believe. Or it might have been from Whole Latte Love. They are all over. Espressoparts.com may also be a good place to look

Yes the sette 270 was in this video! Thanks for watching! I've updated the video description for this. Be sure to check my new content and subscribe! I've updated my whole setup since this video

How's the Sette holding up? I'm consolidating it but some of the reviews scared me on how often it needs repairs.
@QuinCarter
@QuinCarter Год назад
Well I had it for a year and a half or so. It was fine when I gave it to a friend. I got a new grinder though. My only complaint was it was very loud. Like the loudest freaking grinder I've ever heard.

Check out my new videos for my new setup! It's more updated and I'd consider this video more of "what not to do" when pulling espresso on the GCP.

I noticed you lost significant pressure while frothing the milk and thus not being able to create the vortex quickly enough. I used to have this issue until I installed a PID, and now my Gaggia Classic is another espresso machine. You can’t even compare the results before and after, sometimes the steam pressure is way too much and could scald the milk.
@QuinCarter
@QuinCarter 4 года назад
I will look into installing PID. I know that's what it is missing for both brewing and frothing
@daftsapien
@daftsapien 4 года назад
I highly suggest you look for MrShades PID Kit, very easy to install and the man himself even helps you during the process if you ever get stuck. Also, I encourage you to join us if you have a Reddit account at r/gaggiaclassic where everyone has a ton of information about this machine in that sub. Good luck!
