Making a Leather Bandolier for SHTF -- Leathercraft ASMR

This is the second half of my scoped pistol holster build. In this leather working video, I make a cross-body shoulder bandolier rig; complete with pouches / bags for ammo boxes and magazine sheaths. I'm particularly happy with the way it came out; and as a bonus, it's very comfortable to wear even when fully loaded.
Is .22 LR too small a caliber for the zombie apocalypse? Maybe. Shot placement will be paramount. But that's what the optic on the Ruger MKIIl is for!
For the traditionalists, this is a laser-heavy video out of necessity. To be honest, without my xTool P2, I probably wouldn't have even attempted it. I also use my Prusa 3D printer for creating the wet molds for the magazine sheaths. This is another piece of tech that has loads of applications for leatherwork. Once I had the patterns nailed down and converted to gcode, it's just a matter of letting the machine do the precision cutting and me following up with all the handwork.
Although they didn't sponsor this video, below is a link to save my viewers a few bucks on purchasing a P2 direct from xTool. This also helps support the channel by earning a (very) small commission:

The only 22 caliber anything I'll own and shoot is a 5.56. Even then, I'd still rather have something with actual killing power, preferably with a 30 caliber bullet. But genuinely astonishing craftsmanship nonetheless!

Definately a thumbs up on everything! Absolutely great work and great caliber and pistol! Those pistols will take down a rabbit with a head shot at 50+ yds/w open sights. Now for a chest rig for .223/556 magazines that can be carried on your belt or chest rig. I made one with single mag carriers that will handle different capacity magazines. And added a soft bag for storing empty mags. A small box thats attached to the sling that holds a speed loader spoon for speed strips. A leather box on the stock that can carry a 20 round box of 223 ammo on speed strips. These sure add weight but they give me the ability to reach out a few hundred yards. Then a a horse type rifle scabbard for the E-Bike....... ok thats enough, I'm getting carried away.

Walking around a wasteland with 5000 rounds of ammunition on your person cannot be a bad idea. Unless you encounter someone with a scoped rifle that shoots you before you get in range of your .22lr out of a pistol. If actually considering this for shtf I’d recommend a silencer and copious amounts of stealth. Else that sweet looking rig will be another’s trophy.

Remarkable, what a great way to satisfy the mind and hands. I had a couple of questions going in, and saw you did what i did when i made mine, almost identical, until you got to the different caliber part.... So ya set my brain on fire and i made another sling to go the other side with a sort of saddle pouch, or a drop bag to hold the extra loads not of the same caliber, to give to my team mates if i had any or to sell or use as trade currency at outposts in that far away idea of a place. Yeah that’s just plain cool. Feels Han Solo meets SHTF gunslinger. I also like that you printed those boxes for different calibers, I’ve always said that if I was stuck with one gun for the rest of time that it would be my Glock 17. Obviously you wouldn’t be able to carry as much ammo but it’s cool to see you could adjust the kit to carry something with a little bit more pop.

Love the set up. I agree with you on what your reasoning is 100%. .22 is great for accuracy and handling. You could probably place 3rds of .22 in a face faster than your opponent with a 9mm. Hold off a lot of people with .22. I'm sure even with body armor you could squeeze a few rounds in between.

Such beautiful craftsmanship! I was serious before, would you PM me with a budget? I've been looking for this for 6-7 years but didn't know it could be this beautiful. Also I greatly prefer 50rd Card board boxes for round management, when you've used them they can be used as tinder or for writing notes and there is no plastic rattle or empty box to carry out. Also if your buddy wants shells when out plinking you know exactly many you are lending and expect replaced! Once again, beautiful work!

Not that the way your are doing it is wrong or doesn't work. You always seam to get great results. I love the reverse tape technique to speed dye the smaller parts. I would call that speed dying. Beautiful rig. Let's hope you don't have to use it for the zombies. I agree with the idea of more is better for your ammunition. Please keep them coming.

Me: I would go with the .22 lr or something like a 9mm do to the size of a round. Now with hunting if I was with a group of people I would think about a 12g shotgun but the round to weight is bad. If I was going to hunt deer I would pick a black powder rifle or shotgun over a 12g do to I could substitute lead for small rocks in the black powder shotgun. Yes keep the powder and caps dry is a little more difficult but I could pick a flintlock to eliminate caps and most of the components I can get at a store too

I'm using both contact cement and 'regular' glue in this video. The stuff I paint on with a brush is Ecoweld water-based contact adhesive. The stuff in the bottle is Eco-Flo leathercraft glue. Both available at Tandy. It just depends on the pieces. White glue gives me time to position the pieces, where contact cement would not. I don't think it's the same formulation as wood glue. What I DON'T use is any solvent-based adhesive (Barge, Weldwood, etc...).

valid point. That's why I 3D printed those boxes at the end of the video. But honestly, various brands of .22 has come in those 50-round boxes ever since I was a kid.

Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! That's an interesting take. Would it have made a difference if I had stamped out all the parts on a traditional clicker press?

Incredibly beautiful work. When I first saw the boxes, I thought they were for Ruger 10/22 magazines.

I've thought about adding a knife sheath to this. The design is modular and I can add/remove whatever I need from it. Thanks for watching!

As someone who owns a pair of Ruger MK Hunter pistols, I can appreciate the effort that went into making such a beautiful piece. Might I suggest making some of those pouches to fit the ten round magazines for the Ruger 10/22 rifle? Or make a mold for the CCI mini mag boxes? I’m very curious as to how much a setup like this would cost, very interested.

Looks awesome but in terms of practicality - utterly pointless. 22LR is a mean round (actually not uncommon to be used by assassins at point-blank range, the soft lead bullet also substantially poisons the blood + blood loss + more so if there are several, so the EMR is usually out of time...yet there's a reason it's not a weapon if choice), but it just doesn't cut it in a SHTF scenario. Especially with a scope - that thing is utterly useless. Your effective range is 10-15 meters max and you have to shoot the legs...and run. Preferably just run in the first place. All it will do is wound them and then they will come at you in force, encircle you and you're dead. Against melee weapons - eh, probably, if you're lucky and already have the weapon drawn - again, shoot legs, face, run. Would probably take a clip to put someone down, if at all. Depends on the amount of adrenaline the target has, too - that is a very big factor for small caliber. For example, a drugged person or a person high on adrenaline could probably eat up a clip and still get you, while an unaware one will faint from shock (and suffer less damage altogether consequentially, except maybe blood loss, but that also depends, unless hit in vital organs or finished off). But as a deterrence from unarmed people and dogs - perfect. Also I noticed on the back - is that thing compatible with backpacks? I think the rear pouches would touch the backpack and then the sling will move forward each step and then you'll get a rash from your pectoral over to trapezius and deltoid, and the side of the body too. Leather cuts in real good when it moves around a lot. I'd consider a side strap across the waist to lock it in place and loose a couple of pouches on the back to be able to put on a backpack, because without a backpack it just doesn't work.

I like the way you think..lol. I actually would love to see something like this for my .357 magnum revolver. I have 4 speedloaders and a bunch of loose rounds. This looks like a great idea. At first, I will say that your .22 looked like a blaster from Star wars, so there's that..

I love the idea, but it would probably be awkward to reload. Magazines are typically placed on the weak side because they are easy to grab with your off hand. In your current configuration you’d have to reach across your torso to grab the magazine. I would suggest adding a belt with the mag pouches placed at the 10 or 11 o’clock position. A belt would also ensure that your gun is always in the same position if you ever have to draw it under stress.
