If you love to read or want to make something for the bookworm in your life, we have the perfect leather project for you! In this video, Daniel Reach creates a beautiful butterfly bookmark using 1-2 and 2-3 oz. tooled leather. Thin leather can be more difficult to tool, but as you can see, the results are well worth it. With a standard bevel, a swivel knife and a bit of paint, you can create this realistic butterfly that looks ready to fly off the page of your book.

OLD Leather Smith here, very nice, great job, Suggestion, I prefer using dye instead of paint, it lasts longer, stays brighter, and eventually doesn't chip off. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃

Wish you had taken just a little more time showing that last stitch on the saddle. Aside from that wonderful video.

I agree. Looking back I wish I had included more as well. We're going to be doing another one shortly. I'll make sure to go into detail in that video.

I’d love to see the finished product like promised! I can’t quite see how the saddle holds the paper.

This video shows the saddle a little bit better! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7LUwDT9_ubs.htmlfeature=shared

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this project idea. I have been looking for a way to use some of the smaller pieces of moose leather i have, and its mostly 3 ounce. Thanks for the idea and the tutorial!

Which technique? What's the project? Just curious. 😊

@@DanielReachCreations beveling/backgrounding without cutting on thinner leather. Plus the inside tooling on the wings fits well with the design I'm attempting (tiger's head)

I'm not sure which part you're talking about. Can you give me a time stamp? I'll go listen and then translate my Texas accent. 😊

@@DanielReachCreations While I'm not speaking for Paul Thompson, I don't think it's your accent, you rushed through details!

@YT Commenting gotcha. Unfortunately sometimes that happens when I'm trying to strike a balance between providing a good tutorial but also not being too verbose and keeping the video to a watchable length. I'll be more conscious of it in the future.

@@DanielReachCreations I’m asking about what you put on the back of the butterfly and the 4 feathers project before you burnished with the folded piece of leather.
@DanielReachCreations
@DanielReachCreations Год назад
@Paul Thompson okay! So you're asking what did I use to slick the back with. It's called Gum Trag which is short for Gum Traggacanth (not sure about the spelling).

Thanks for the video and pattern, although the important details are rushed, which is typical of all your videos.
