It's interesting how guys go about making hard baits. We all have different processes! I hear ya, carving and finishing that maple ain't all that easy lol. Nice shop! Keep up the good work man!
Hey bud! The reason the router is grabbing your lure is sometimes you are using it correctly, and sometimes you aren't. You start off ok, and could have kept going right off the edge of the bait. But, the last few passes you make, you're feeding the material into the router in the wrong direction. Feeding material in the wrong direction is what can cause the router to grab and yank the piece out of your hand. When you're looking down at the router table, the bit always spins counter-clockwise. You want to feed material against the direction the bit is turning, NEVER with it. Those last few passes you did really puckered up my butthole!! Also, consider getting some type of a fence for your router table. Makes things a lot easier - and safer!!
I use cedar on all other baits. Cedar is way to buoyant for gliders if you are looking for a glider that will work the same everytime and not require half of the bait to be lead.
