In this video, Chuck demonstrates how to make a pair of leather boot leggings. These leggings can be used for costume or as protection from brush when hunting or hiking. This is a simple style using our crazy horse water buffalo leather for both the leggings and the billets but, using this same pattern, you can easily decorate them with spots, conchos, fur, and much more to fit your style.
Download the free pattern: www.weaverleathersupply.com/c...
*Please note this pattern is made according to Chuck's measurements, so please measure and adjust the pattern according to your size.

Chuck truly gives me life during quarantine lol. His enthusiasm is infectious. I love how he goes through so many different variations and ideas to get the creative wheels turning for people. Also, major hats off to the editing team on these videos. They always show enough of Chuck's demonstrations to illustrate the concept and technique, but cut out all of the "in between." Makes the videos so digestible.

I appreciate how inclusive Chuck and Weaver Leather craft are in making these videos. So many instructional videos and leather shops/websites act like we're nothing but retirees trying to make gun holsters and Wallets. Leather crafting has a place in so many hobbies and communities.

I was actually planning, to make some sort of boots cuffs come winter...maybe with a little fur trim. And a warm lining. There's just no point, investing in expensive boots for the few cold weeks, we have here. Plus, they take up a lot of storage place!

I want to make a set of boot covers with reinforced knee and shin protection, with a knife sheath on the outside of the calf. This is a decent pattern to work from. Wouldn't take much to add a thicker strip of leather down the shin and connect a leather covered knee pad as well. That could turn out pretty cool I think.

Just watch the video and now I’m hooked and I subscribed to your channel. The last to days I made a sheath and a handle collar for my True temper Kelly Woodsman’s axe . First time doing leather work and it looks good, I have to say that cause I made it 😬. Is there a chart to show leather weight and how think it is and what punch to use for each weight ? Thanks for the video, enjoyed it very much .
@WeaverLeatherSupply
@WeaverLeatherSupply 4 года назад
Hi Johnny, Thanks so much for watching and we're so glad to hear you're enjoying leather work! We'll link a leather conversion chart below, this shows the thickness of leather based on oz. www.weaverleathersupply.com/learn/leather-101/leather-thickness As far as punches go, if you're talking hole punches the size will depend on what the hole will be used for. If you're using chicago screws or rivets, you'll want to punch a hole that is the size of the fastener post. Hope that helps!

Hi Chuck I finally got my tools and started doing leather-working yesterday, i started of trying to get a hang of the cutting by making some of your mystery braid bracelets, and i love it. Today i started making some practice saddle stitching tho i don't have a stiching pony, tho it seems like i can keep the direction of the stich decently i get "wrinkles" near the holes, and i have some trouble getting the thread through and finishing of the stitch. any tips for a newbie :D love your work, many hours of fun and learning keep up the good work, cheers from Denmark -Mathias Jensen
@christianmatchett1442
@christianmatchett1442 4 года назад
Mathias I highly recommend the Corter Leather videos, for an example of saddle stitching without a pony. Weaver hosts some free patterns from the Corter videos too! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EIGT_RXi8ZM.html
@jackiemowery5243
@jackiemowery5243 2 года назад
Those wrinkles are a sign you are pulling your stitches too tight for the weight of leather you are using. You can pull tighter on heavier leather (wallet) than you can on lighter weight leather (gloves); lighter on chrome-tanned leather than veg-tan.

I've been doing leather craft for about 10 months and I love it! I'm struggling with two things I'm hoping to get some help with: when I set copper rivets and need to cut the stem down I don't have the hand strength to cut it off and I have been using a dremel tool to cut them. But it is time consuming and I'd prefer to cut them. Is there a tool that I can use that will allow me to cut them that I am unaware of? The typical nippers are just to hard for me to squeeze enough for the cut. Also, when I am using a stamp I have to bang the crap out of it and it's super noisy! Which press machine would I use for stamping?
@WeaverLeatherSupply
@WeaverLeatherSupply 3 года назад
Hi Nancy, For the copper rivets, the longer the handles are on the nippers, the more pressure you'll get with less exertion. I would maybe check your local hardware store and get some heavy duty nippers. For the stamps, if it a large stamp or a makers mark where you're just doing one, not trying to line up a basketweave, the Mighty Wonder or an arbor press will work great.
