In this video, Chuck shows how to make a pair of pirate map arm guards using some basic stamping tools and a swivel knife! These arm guards are the perfect accessory to a costume and just in time for Halloween. This project starts with a blank canvas, so you can get creative with your tooling and stamping to fit your style.

Imagine if every teacher, no matter what they teach, had the same passion and enthusiasm as Chuck does! He is just amazing!!!

Also great for maybe a map on a journal for someone who uses travel logs. "The possibilities are endless", to borrow a phrase from the man himself, love ya Chuck!

I love how low stress you’re trying to be. The little things about how being exact doesn’t matter is really nice.

I love all of the projects on this channel but this might just be my favorite! I can think of a whole bunch of family and friends who would love a gift along these lines :) My favorite part about all of the Weaver Leathercraft videos though is Chuck's enthusiasm; it really makes me excited about giving it a go myself, and the easy instructions take a lot of the intimidation out of it. Thanks again for running such a fun and helpful channel

Great project! I just cut out a pattern for my first rifle butt cuff. Ammo loops on one side and attempting a wildlife carving on the other side. Your project here provided me with many tips and pointers. Thanks Chuck! ( I’d like to see how you do a rifle cuff as well)

Maybe your best project to date! I was just a little surprised Chuck didn't make a "mirrored" template to begin with like he usually does.

I use eyelets grommets on the lace holes for all my bracers.it makes the leather cording slide easier and doesn't cause wear to the bracer eyelet holes.i usually use parachute cording as well.great project especially for beginners.

I really liked this idea. I liked the colour of the antique on the undyed leather far better than the reddish brown dyed leather, though, because it looked more like the colour that an old map would actually be. The antique on undyed leather also made it so you could see the map better. A lot of the details kinda get a little lost (at least on camera) in the reddish brown dyed leather. Just my preference. I still really like this idea of the map design on the bracers, though, I think it's a really cool idea.

Enough neat projects that it makes me want to dig out my ancient leather working kit, update and use it again. That said, as you have done slings, holsters & bullet loops, how about speedloader pouches?

One idea would be to go online or in person to local historical society and download a facsimile of real, early cartography piece, print it out on tracing paper (or print on reg paper and trace with tracing paper) and proceed as normal. Just adds a bit of local “authenticity “.

I bought a mahogany antique and it seems to dry and leave a chalky looking finish in the crevices. Am I doing something wrong or is that just an issue with the color?

I'm going to try this with some oiltan, except I will use a woodburner to burn in the features. I have the perfect side of leather that is a really ugly khaki tan color.

I notice you use your L thumb to help guide the swivel... cool! And are you using the blade that comes standard with the swivel knife to make those intricate cuts? I don’t live close to any place or person for learning tooling so these tutorials are invaluable!
@WeaverLeatherSupply
@WeaverLeatherSupply 3 года назад
Hi there! Yes, this is the blade that came with the swivel knife.

Hey Chuck! Loving your channel. Quick question: I’ve made about 5 different projects and am learning a lot. I use a speed sewing awl for sewing my leather, instead of the saddle stitch. Is that cheating or making an inferior product?
@WeaverLeatherSupply
@WeaverLeatherSupply 3 года назад
Hi there, The speedy stitcher will give you a stitch similar to a sewing machine where, if a stitch gets cut, the entire seam will unravel. A saddle stitch will stay intact even if a thread breaks. So, not inferior, but maybe try saddle stitching and see what you think!

Awesome project. I have to say I am new to leatherwork, But I love it. I am horrible at doing letters, any suggestions. I'm going to attempt a skull on a knife sheath I'm making. I know right, Just jump right in there. That's just how I am though. Thanks for your assistance in advance, Joe

So in this piece you use water as part of the burnishing process....I've also seen beeswax, and then this white colored liquid (name eludes me)...Why would you choose one over another?
@CantrellLeatherGoods
@CantrellLeatherGoods 3 года назад
Art Strutzenberg I think the white stuff you’re talking about is either Tokonole or Gum Tragacanth. It is just personal preference as to what someone uses. Take care.
@WeaverLeatherSupply
@WeaverLeatherSupply 3 года назад
Hi Art, What @BoggyCreekLeather mentioned is exactly right, it's up to personal preference. A lot of folks will use Tokonole or Gum Trag and burnish and then finish with beeswax but I recommend trying a few different ways and seeing what works best for you! Tokonole is great because it works for most chrome tans as well. Hope that helps!

Why not put the wax finish on both sides instead of deliberately avoiding the part that touches skin? Wouldn't the color come off on the skin with sweating?

Please Google "Night Stalkers" It is a army Delta family crest. They've made movies about these guys. They are the real Blackhawk Down guys. I work with one of these guys. I've been trying to make this for a gun holster. Unfortunately I have not been very successful. Please help. It looks like we could do it fairly easily. When I say "we" I really mean you. 😁
