Several people that follow us on Facebook have requested to see videos of our products being made. So this is the first of a 2 part series of video's we did for a customer who wanted a rattlesnake skin belt, and a matching knife sheath. This video also takes a comedic look at the growing number of "craftsmen" that buy other people's products and then claim them as their own. Featuring our favorite neighborhood inbred Philbilly, as he attempts to follow in their deceptive footsteps, and is reminded that there is a difference between a craftsman and a fraud.

Hello, I was hoping you can answer a few questions. Was the skin you received from your customer descaled? Also did you use the remaining remnants for the sheath soon after crafting the belt or did you store for later use and if so what storage method. The reason asking I have an Eastern D (bought dried by mistake) had a taxidermist relax it, put in freezer and now I'm ready to remove, descale, and craft but will have some left for another project. Thanks, and your work is awesome Great vid!!!

There was this guy that used to do Repticon shows named phil kelton. He had a lot of so called custom handmade leather. Then Ronnie of Cold Blood Creations started doing Repticon and phil got mad. The Ronnie exposed phil as a fraud when it was discovered that phil lies about making his leather helmets. Even Repticon pulled down phil kelton video because they would not represent the liar on their page. So phil sells on eBay under the store name somethinguneek.

@@Omah50 Omah50 You know. I never understood that. People will get upset when others find the hustle and try get mad over the fact that someone else has found a way. It I uste to go to High end bully shows and saw a bunch of different vendors who would make dog collars and I mean a bunch of vendors each stand had maybe a few products the same but pretty much they each had a little something special of their own . No shame competition yes but shame wasn't really noticable I never heard them say oh don't go to them their shit is not good shit or something. And honestly I believe if Mr. Kelton wouldn't have had that type of attitude Mr. Ronnie would have never exposed him. You can't try to shame someone when your shit is knowingly fucked up....and the other person's your shaming isn't. They WILL pull your card. Sometimes out of defense.. sometimes just because you had the nerve. I like this guy tho I've learned a lot.

What's the process of preserving the skin until time of use
@rogerhuff2602
@rogerhuff2602 5 лет назад
I have a couple questions. Did you glue the snake skin to the flesh side or skin side of the leather? Do you only skive the corner the inside corner of belt? Do you thin the leather at the buckle fold?
@ColdBloodCreations
@ColdBloodCreations 5 лет назад
Either one will work but if you use the skin side rough it up with sandpaper before gluing. I only bevel the inside edge that will be against the wearers body. We do not thin the buckle fold, but we use a leather conditioner on it so that it does not crack when it is folded that sharply. Hope that will help you out. Good luck!

You're welcome. We will do more and more videos on the leather craft side of our business. We breed reptiles for a living, and the snakeskin is just a result of the many years in the business. When we (or many other) reptile breeders have animals that die naturally, we preserve the beauty of the specimen with tanning and crafting them into works of art. Do you put anything on the snake skin to preserve it so it doesn't flake off?
@ColdBloodCreations
@ColdBloodCreations 6 лет назад
No. We tan it. That is, the skin is chemically transformed into a leather. The alcohol/glycerin method so popular on RU-vid is NOT A TAN. It only preserves the skin. When the skin is tanned into leather, it becomes a much more durable product. The snakeskin belt that I currently wear is over 7 years old with little if any signs of wear on it.
@josieencinias5895
@josieencinias5895 6 лет назад
Cold Blood Creations is there a video on how to tan it anywhere? I am really interested in learning how to tan snake skins.
@ColdBloodCreations
@ColdBloodCreations 6 лет назад
Most of the videos I see on tanning are on the alcohol/glycerin method, which is not an actual tan. Tanning is 50% technique, and 50% materials. Even using the best tanning agents will require much practice to fine tune it. We are constantly fine tuning our methods even after 20 years. I would start by looking at some tanning videos from a taxidermy supply company. From there, try different methods to see what you prefer for your applications. Then practice, practice, practice.

@budwilloughby6126
@budwilloughby6126 Год назад
I’ve got a question? I’ve got a rattlesnake skin that I’m looking at trying to do my first belt with is how I ran across your video. I noticed in the video that the snake skin that the customer sent you was very soft and ply able when you got it and even mentioned it in the video as mine is as well but when you went to glue it down to the belt blank it was kind of stiff and dry. How did you get it to do that? As one of the concerns Ive had is being the snake skin I have is so soft and ply able almost like a tee shirt material is making sure there’s no wrinkles in it when I glue it down. And I’m not wanting to do the entire belt I’m wanting to do an inlay on just the back.

The way it looks from the plyability of the skin he used a 50/50 blend of glycerin and 70% or higher alcohol for the tan. Mix equal parts and shake well , and then put your skin inside a mason jar or any jar and cover it with the mixture and close the lid. Then twice a day shake the jar to keep it mixed for 14 days. Take the skin out and air dry. It will be perfect to mount on a belt or ect.
@ColdBloodCreations
@ColdBloodCreations 6 лет назад
Actually you are correct. That is the way the skin arrived at our shop. However, we recommended to our customer us doing a complete tan on the skin. Our customer agreed, and though we didn't show it in this video, we did tan the skin. The problem with the 50/50 glycerin & alcohol mixture is that the alcohol will pull moisture out of the air. (kind of like the ethanol fuel does to lawn equipment) That is a big deal when you live in the southeast as the skin seems to never fully dry. And it only preserves the skin and does not actually make it into a leather. Since we want our customer to have a long lasting product, we did tan his hide into leather for him.
@danielblevins2741
@danielblevins2741 6 лет назад
What type of tan would you recomend for someone (myself) to use other than the glyerine tan? I take pride in keeping my serpents, and when they die, i want to preserve them as much as possible and sometimes i do some homemade crafts with them. I AM NOT a professional , but i do like to do as much as possible myself. And i want to say, i really enjoy watching your episodes, it is very informative and educational. Im just trying to see if there is a better way to preserve my reptile skins. I would appreciate any help you could give me but i understand if ypu do not want to give away any trade secretes. Thanks for any and all adbice.
@ColdBloodCreations
@ColdBloodCreations 6 лет назад
There are many different tans that one can use depending on the need. Whether the skin will be displayed or worn. All have their pluses or minuses. For general all around tanning purposes, there is one tan that I would recommend and it is the Rittels brand snake tanning kit. We used it for many years with great success. It works well especially on rattlesnake skins.

I had a rattler turned into a belt and it has been a nightmare, the guy kept lying about how it was being made after I payed (what he said was half) up front. The belt is flaking and I haven’t even worn it yet, the skin is loose on the belt and the stitching is all over the road. My question to you is, should I coat the skin in something to preserve it? I’ve paid a lot of my for this belt, I tried to have a conversation with a sat phone to the guy because I’m deployed and he was yelling at my pregnant wife. I would rather just get professional advice on how to fix my belt then burning the guys house down when I get back. Thank you in advance.
@ColdBloodCreations
@ColdBloodCreations 4 года назад
Was the guy out of Florida by chance? Ocala, Silver Springs area? In all honesty, this sounds like a case of "if you starts bad it usually ends bad" to me. I would suggest start over with a craftsman that knows what they are doing. They're alot of fakes and cons out there. Putting something on the belt will not keep the loose skin from coming off, or the crooked stitching.

@ColdBloodCreations
@ColdBloodCreations 5 лет назад
Maybe, but we made a promise to our customers that ALL of our products are made from naturally deceased wildlife, as did one of our competitors. Then the python hunts were started and we were offered those skins for free. It would have been good for us financially to make product out of these free skins, but would have required us to go back on our word. So when faced with a decision that involves character vs. profit, we chose to decline the offer for these skins in order to remain true to ourselves and our supporters.
