This is part two of the longer than I thought video on making a resetable crosslide dial, you can make one in the time you'll spend watching these! Oh well, I enjoyed doing it!

Hi we are RDG TOOLS a Model Engineering tool company based in Mytholmroyd West Yorkshire. We sell new and used tools. We also own the Myford Lathes Brand. We took over Myford around 12 years ago. Both company's are in the same building and we are open to the public. We are still building new Myford lathes and refurbished Myford lathes. Great Video using the ml7

The more I watch you, I realise how much I don't know. The hill I have to climb more & more looks like a mountain, still Cliff the way you video your work explains a lot, and I'm even learning engineering jokes.

Cheers Andy, Thanks for watching, Pretty easy to make and well worth it if you have'nt got them, and there are ways of scratching the graduations on it useing the lathe, I see you subscribe to clickspring, now there is a perfectionist, I admire his quality and his way of "videoing", ATB, Cliff.

Hi Cliff, Thanks for posting, will make a pair for my ML7. 40 quid each AND the cost of postage to New Zealand, makes it worth making my own. Plus, what's the point of having a home workshop if it can't save you a few bucks! A wee tip when you want to hold a finished surface in the chuck, I use a strip cut from an Ali beer can, wrapped almost completely around the work piece, so all 3 jaws are seated on the Ali. The thickness of the drinks can is extremely consistent, so no concentricity errors. It works well if you need to chuck a bolt by it's threads to protect the threads (and chuck jaws). Because the Ali is soft it yields a little and you get a good firm grip on the work. Regards Paul

Cheers Paul, they do make life easier. Beer cans is a good idea, I'm always looking for bits of scrap to protect stuff but never thought of cans, even though I melt them! Whereabouts in NZ are you? All the best, Cliff

@@CliffsShed Hi Cliff, Just outside Darfield, 50kms from Christchurch on the South Island. Great climate, usually very low humidity, so I don't get much problem with rust in the workshop. I emigrated from Ayrshire 20 years ago, had massive problems with rust in the workshop then!! I see from your later videos that you got an Emco V10, guess what, so did I! Still have the ML7, it's very quiet compared to the Emco. Just started making my first steam engine - a little Stuart 10V. Cheers Paul

Hi Cliff, I have just bought a Myford super 7 so i have the dials on it already but can you tell me how you put the graduations on the dial?. I love the way you explain things and demonstrate. dave

Hello Dave, thanks for watching, I'd like a super 7! how old is it? got a gearbox?, anyway, I did the graduations on my milling machine using a dividing plate on my rotary table, pain in the arse, takes ages! ATB, Cliff

Thanks Cliff, No gearbox, it's a imperial in grey so i think 70's but will need to check before i need any spares. can i use a dividing plate on the lathe?. i am new to machining as you can tell. Cheers.

in short, yes, have to figure out a way of fitting it, you can instal a "pin" of some kind at the change gear end of the lathe and if what you want to divide works out you can use the change gears, or you can drill holes in the chuck backplate, limited but ok if you do a lot of similar dividing, not a great explanation but search some youtube videos and you'll get it!

Im using this idea to make one out of stainless steel as i speak, not fun stuff to machine!
