When the handle on your Park Tool TS-4.2 truing stand goes missing, you have two choices: Call Park Tool for a replacement or make one out of spare junk you have in the shop!
In this video, Danielle chooses the latter for a little bit of fun and problem solving. For those looking for hard-hitting bike content, check out the rest of the channel!

All things considered… you handled that well.

Hi Danielle 😊 season's greetings and I hope things are going well for you and your's. Nice fix on the wheel stand, the bottle cap was a nice touch, best wishe's, Stuart Uk.

I think the cap was the icing of the cake. To be honest it's important that more people do things like this, because some person could easily just sell the whole unit as if it was broken. It's just good to see you being resourceful and making a fun time out of it.

I love PT, but the flash on the horizon, was heads exploding at PT HQ. Seriously, I love a bit of unserious content, that is bright on the scratch with what you have.

Moved without your lathe‽ 😮 I hope you get _around_ to moving it soon.

How do you know the wheel is "true" to the bottom calipers? Watching you crank the wheel it looked like the one arm moved more than the other- or it could have been parallax error. Maybe you have made a jig to make sure it is square always before checking a wheel

The arms should move evenly along the threads since they are both tied to the same rod spinning at the same rate. The uprights do get off-center though - Park and BSC both have calibration tools to set the indicators to center if you would like to measure dish accurately in the stand. I typically use a separate dishing tool, so the centering is less important. It is hard to accurately set a thru axle wheel in a stand with half-round adapters - if you're using the indicators to measure dish you should use a separate thru axle adapter with this stand.

As long as what you need is smaller than the material you start with!

It's crazy to think about the number of times I forgot to bring my vice grips to the grinder and burnt my fingers...all while having my TIG finger in my pocket. Why didn't I think of that? Lol.

would you recomend the TS-4.2 should i look elsewhere?

If you intend to work on fat bike wheels with (4-5") tires while still on the rim, absolutely. If you don't, I would just go with the regular pro level with the 2.3. The 4.2 is massive, so if you don't need the extra capacity, it's easier to work with the others. I'm not a huge proponent of "more money is better" either - sure you can get the Abbey $$$ but you can build just as perfect of a wheel without it and I don't see the time savings in the fancy truing stands to justify the cost. Would I take one? Sure 😁 But it's not on my list of purchases even as a wheelbuilder.

"a random bin"? More like 5 organizers and 4 kitty litter boxes of random parts...

That’s not going to help the centering mechanism. I have to use a dishing tool. You can calibrate it all you want. You’ll never get it perfectly centered. Everybody I know that has this stand like me knows you have to use a dishing tool because this Park stand is centering like advertised.
@NeutralSupportNews

They wander off for sure. I've never trusted a truing stand to tell me dish, always double check with a tool. Especially with the thru axle "nubs" - the hub won't ever be perfectly straight in the stand anyway.

@@NeutralSupportNews Sorry, I meant that these Park stands are not fully self-centering like advertised. If they were you wouldn’t have to use a dishing tool. Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but I’ve been able to perfectly calibrate the stand fully. I can get sort of close to center, but not 100%. Thus, I have to use a dishing tool.
