Is this channel still active? I sure hope he is only on hiatus - this guy is one of the best RU-vid woodworkers because of both the creativity of his projects and his build videos for them. I'm be waiting for new videos!
Hi - Yes, I'm still here. I'm still making things but I've been taking a break from shooting videos. I think I will start back up in the new year because I miss it. Thanks for the kind words and encouragement!
Steve, I just love the positivity and joy you bring in every video. You could make a video about watching paint dry and I'd watch it because your happiness is so contagious. Keep up making these great videos. I always look forward to them.
Steve, just viewed your Rustic Wooden American Flag video for the first time. Really enjoyed your enthusiasm, and all the helpful tips! The lighting and camera angles in your shop are GREAT! I was thinking about using the dremel tool for the stars, but am going to check out the xcarve first. Thanks for a great video!
Hi Brent! Thanks! These are fun to make. It was worth the extra time to make the jig to keep it square. A dremel will work fine if you have a steady hand. I had a base that would fit a dremel once and it made it easier to do precise routing along lines.
The X-Carve really does a good quick job of engraving the stars. I see other videos of people using a template to draw the stars, then using a dremel tool to engrave them one by one, and I think that must get really old if you build more than a few flags.
Hey Steve. Warm enough for ya down there in Georgia yet? As always a great job Steve and always up beat, you are really something. You never disappoint man!! Some of that music sounded a little like the Allman Brothers Band and brought back some 70's memories. Way to go Steve Happy Memorial Day to you and your family.
Hey Tommy! Yep, it's been 90's here lately. Makes it hard to walk 5 miles a day, but glad I have a treadmill inside. It's not too bad walking at 10pm though. I thought that too about the music.
Very nice Steve, American chaps always seem to put a lot of pride in making flags. Here in the UK I don't think anyone makes flags. Perhaps it's time I did! 🤣
@@SteveCarmichael I recall you mentioning that in a previous video. I'd hold out though on a union jack, if Scotland leave the UK, the blue parts will be removed from the flag 🇬🇧
Thanks! Yeah, I love the accuracy of it. It would bug me if a star was off center or something. It sure makes quick work of the stars while I work on something else.
Steve, the flag looks great. I have been making flag using the x Carve for the Union. I really liked how you rounded over the edges. I think I’m going to do that also
Great project Steve! I like how you mentioned the easel pro software requirements. It is great how they give us access for free for the month. I try to save up a couple projects to carve back to back. This would be great for making multiple flags! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 👍😎🤘
Thanks Michael! It does make it easier and I like the carved stars, but you can get laser cut stars from Amazon and glue them on, or spray paint the stars with a stencil.
Looks great, thank you for the ideas I've always wanted to build one the biggest set back has been the stars pre-cut stars from hobbie shop never crossed my mind.
Beautiful flag Steve, question? Would it be possible to make the whole flag out of 1x2s @ 37” by staining the union and stripes put together the flag as you normally did and put the whole flag onto the table of the CNC and cut the stars? Great video!!
Hi Ron - Yes, you can do it that way. You would just need to use something like razor blades to keep the red and blue from bleeding so the lines stay sharp.
What type of drywall anchor are you using to hang the flag from? I checked in the description on this video, as well as, going to your website and looking at the material list there and it was not on your website. Best, Mark
Thanks Capt Dan! LOL, I wouldn't want to do the stars any other way if I was making a whole bunch of flags. There are a few people out there who still appreciate the hand carved approach though.
Hi Steve love your post s it says link to the description below. But I don't seem to see that ! I'm am totally supposed of what you do .what am I doing wrong? Please advise do I need to go to your website? Thank you in advance.
Hi Steve! Here are the links from the video description. Thanks for watching! Just getting into CNC carving. Not familiar with bits, but looking to do the same type of stars as this video. Does it matter which 90 degree V bit i purchase?
Whiteside makes good ones. You just want to make sure you get one meant for CNC. Some of the v bits for traditional routing don't come to a sharp point and may have trouble diving into the cut.
@@SteveCarmichael Does it matter what the diameter of the actual bit is? not the shank, the diameter of the V bit itself? As long as i program it into easel.... Example: If I buy a 90 degree V bit that has a 1/2inch diameter, as long as easel knows that, it can make the adjustment and carve them perfectly, right?
Below is what's on the labels. You might be able to pause the video on the labels. These are proprietary colors available at Lowes only. Scarlet: 101-3, 109-3, 217-1Y6 Barcode Sku - 0662-A-20181202165358 True Blue: 101-0.5, 102-1Y29, 115-1Y19 Barcode Sku - 0662-B-20181202165540
Yep, I think I mentioned Lowes in the video. Home Depot can mix Crimson and Navy Blue, but I like the Lowes colors better. I think it's weird that Minwax would have proprietary colors for each store...it just confuses the end customers. I guess it makes the stores think they are 'special'.
