I think this is where you are demonstrating just how good you really are. :)

As much as I appreciate the kind words James, I don't consider myself to be any kind of great woodworker. Anybody can do what I do. It's all just a matter of loving what you do and being happy with every success AND failure in the shop. It's all part of the learning process and although I have been doing this over 42 years, I still learn something new every time I work in the shop. Thanks for tuning in to the show and for taking the time to leave your kind words. It's very much appreciated.

God bless you for these long videos showing all the details on making a ship in a bottle

I get a lot of negative comments about the longer videos William but I honestly don't care. It's my style of teaching and I would much rather produce a longer video and give all of the information, than to produce a 10 minute show that only demonstrates about 5% of what should be done and all the rest is in fast forward with no explanations at all. Thanks for tuning in to the show and for taking the time to leave the kind words. It's very much appreciated.

Kenny, I sure am enjoying this series, glad you are showing all the detail that you are. Every time you add something to the ship I think....is that still going to fit through the hole......he must have checked. I am really impressed with the build so far my friend.

What a coincidence Paul because every time I add something to the ship I think the exact same thing. LOL. I'm glad that you are enjoying the series. It really is a fun build and I hope that folks are going to give it a try. Challenging and fun. Thanks for tuning in to the show sir. I truly appreciate you dedication to the program.

Funny thing, my nine yr old son asked the other day how ships were put into bottles, I’ll now be able to show him, next he’ll want to do one, and we can thanks to your videos, just hope it’s as easy as you make it look🙂🙂

As long as you take your time Newton, there's no reason that you and your son can't follow along with this tutorial and make your own ship in a bottle. Good for you for getting your son involved and taking the time to teach him something that he has asked about. Good luck on your project and thanks for tuning in. I would love to see a picture of your ship when you are done.

This is a great series. I built a lot balsa planes as a kid, but never ships, I'm learning a lot. Changing the subject. Kenny, have you ever used red ink when drawing your own patterns for the scroll saw? I find it easier to see the red lines against the black blade.
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 3 года назад
Thanks for the kind words on the project Michael. I'm glad that you are enjoying it. As for the patterns, I've heard several people mention that they use red ink for visibility but to be honest, I have never had an issue seeing the black lines so it has never been a necessity to try red. I may have to try it and see if there is a difference. Sorry that I couldn't help more Michael. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

I always wondered how they did that, I actually thought they assembled them in the bottle, as I saw a video program years ago and that was what the guy did, using a long pair of tweezers. so I assumed they were all done that way,. he basically built the model fully outside then slid the sub assemblies through the opening and put it together, but those were the more complicated ships like gallons and such.
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 3 года назад
A single piece hull like I have constructed here in this series is generally placed into the bottle in one piece whereas larger ships (as you pointed out, such as Galleons) are usually made in several pieces that will fit through the neck of the bottle, and then assembled inside the bottle, using dowels as registry points to make everything fit together properly. I am hoping to do a build like that on the show but I will decide that once I see how much interest this series ends up generating. It's a ton of work to produce a series like this. Thanks for tuning in to the show and taking the time to leave a comment.

Kenny you make some cool stuff, So I wanted to ask if you ever turned a block of wood to resemble a roll of toilet paper? I am making blue tooth speaker enclosures and thought a roll of TP would be awesome in the bathroom. each try looks like a big dowel, with lines on the side not looking like paper.
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 3 года назад
So I was thinking about this last night after reading your comment and I can honestly say that I have never made a toilet paper roll in the shop. Interesting idea though. So I thought about how I would do it if I had to make one and the first thing I thought of was "what makes toilet paper, look like toilet paper?" Well for starters, there would be the texture. I thought that maybe white flocking could take care of that. And then there is the perforations. Some careful wood burning could take care of that as well. Other than that, I am kind of stumped on this one Mike but I will continue to think about it and if I come up with anything, I will be sure to let you know. Thanks for tuning in to the show and for poking my creative thought processes. Now you've got me thinking of how it could be done.

I'm gonna use paper clips as a wire! Hmmm, I wonder what to use to make those tiny holes so that the wire can go through...
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 3 года назад
Great substitution Mehak. You can always just use a centre punch to make a hole and then glue the paper clips into those holes. I hope this helps. I love your ingenuity on this. Good luck on your build and thanks for tuning in to the show.
