Catching up on a few neglected projects. Spur Centers come in a large variety but the variation I made seems to work well. First time using my Vevor chuck on my rotary table - It worked great. • Adding a Vevor 3-Jaw C...

That center looked like a whirling dervish of nastiness while it was spinning on the lathe. Looks like it will work just fine.

Some how I was unsubscribed from your RU-vid Channel. I resubscribed. This being unsubscribed from RU-vid Channels. Has been happening a lot lately. I wonder if it is because. I don’t watch any of your and other RU-vid channels I’m subscribed to. For generally 3 months. Then watch and catch up,generally on a Saturday Morning. I will binge watch your latest videos. Starting at the next video prior to the last video I watched. If the video is a series of videos. I’ll wait until the series is finished. I do this with all my favorite RU-vid Channels I’m subscribed to. Anyway excellent workmanship.

Thanks! Yeah, youtube does what it wants. Sometimes it's scary. I'm not dependent on the youtube income and it's not very much anyway but two years ago my views dropped about 70% for about 2 month. I was able to get a hold of a real person and they said, "people just lost interest in your channel". Currently my views are going up and the income keeps going down. RU-vid is pushing for midroll advertising but so far I have refuse to implement this. I know when I watch youtube myself an ad in the middle is annoying. If I see more than two I move on. Money drives everything.

Great work with the rotary table. We don't see a lot of that.

I like it! It has a larger diameter where the spurs are than typical. There’s nothing wrong with that but be careful when turning close to the headstock end. Clashes between your steel drive spur and your steel cutting tools are memorable events. Could you devise a system of limit switches that would not allow it to proceed below a certain diameter in Y at the zero point in X? Just a thought I had because nothing is impossible for the guy that doesn’t have to do it, lol. Now we’re waiting to see the intricate spindles you’ll produce. Keep the vids coming? 🥸👍👀✅

I can see the point of that 😖😁. It's going to be interesting to see what Winky is planning to turn in wood on the CNC lathe.

Looks very nice. Well done. On my wood lathe spur drives, I like the center pin to protrude about 1/4 + in. I drill a 1/4in shallow hole in the center and then I do not have to knock the work onto the spur center. Dave.

Errors are all part of the journey. You'll soon understand machining at a much higher level of precision as you progress. Keep making progress.
@WinkysWorkshop
@WinkysWorkshop 2 месяца назад
Very true! In this case the end result was the desired outcome. The only error I'm aware off was not accounting for the chuck runout and losing contact with the support block. I considered using the rotary table as a lathe and milling the surface to make it true so that the support block would remain in contact during the milling process. So I basically learned that I should not take shortcuts and not so much the process needed. Was there an error that stood out to you?

Nice spur center Mark. Do you use the lathe much? What do you make on it? I took up woodturning just over a year ago and it is really enjoyable. You can make a lot of really nice things from wood on a lathe. Another question, any reason why you did not bore a hole for a MT2 taper in the spindle?
@WinkysWorkshop
@WinkysWorkshop 2 месяца назад
As for the lathe spindle bore I probably should have bored it and cu the #2 MT but the spindle is about 12" long and didn't want to mess with it. The spur center with the only thing that needed the bore and it was easier to make one to screw on than to bore the hole. I've made several Wimshurst Machines with the lathe, turned some wood pineapple for finals for 6x6 posts and made a bunch of spindles for a couple of porch swings. It works great but I don't use it much really.

@@WinkysWorkshop Good to hear that you have made a few things with the lathe. I built a reeves drive with a handle to change the speeds for my first wood lathe. Because you change speeds so frequently when turning, the reeves drive is very impractical. In the end i bit the bullet and purchased a new wood lathe. I still need to work out what to do with the old lathe.
@WinkysWorkshop

@@thehobbymachinistnz My wood lathe is still step pulleys but they are easy to move. On my Hardinge and Index mill I installed 3/4 HP 3ph motors and VFDs. I found a VFD that converts 110v to 220V 3-ph and also found an incredibly cheap source of new motors. Being able to change speeds on the mill is a huge plus. Sometimes 100 RPM makes a huge difference.

So is the first vacuum now a cyclone wanna be? Yea, yea, I know, patience!
@WinkysWorkshop
@WinkysWorkshop 2 месяца назад
At this point yes. Two vacuums in series doubles the lift but not the CFM. This makes it possible to restrict the end of the hose without losing as much air volume.
