In this video, I show you how I completed my steady rest (part2).
The microphone gave up the ghost and I was forced to change it, you will notice differences during my voiceover and edits,… I do hope this doesn’t spoil the video too much.
I am now feeling much better since coming down with Covid, and my normal service should resume.

I want to make some varius steady rests for my machines. Just need for them sometimes. This is one great video to see and think a little. Long time ago I machined ~sae 5140 (C-0.4%, Cr ~1%, Mn ~0.7%) D=~50mm, L=~850mm in centres with steady rest in middle at aprox 800rpm. It get overheated in steady rest (my fault) and get jam in 2..3 seconds... 10kW lathe stoped as nailed to gound. That was little scarry.

Hi, I know what you mean, I have seen the result of big steadies blowing the bearings apart on a 50" lathe.. scary.

Ayeup there in the slow lane, how you both keeping. As for the casting, I wish I had got a casting, I would have spent less time chewing my cheeks. keep smilin, and get in yer shop.😁
