Here’s part three of the 105 Pound Turkish style bow build. This one uses a 1” Schedule 40 PVC pipe cut down to 47” and the finished bow draws 105# @ 28” and 120# @ 30”. In this video we’re making a string with padded nocks for heavy bows and shooting the bow for the first time!

I was watching you make the bow string and thought to myself, "its BEEN YEARS since I saw him make a serving with his little tool" and then BAM, you pull it out and uses it. Always one step ahead.

Your technique is great! It's wonderful seeing how training with lower poundage bows directly translates to warbows if you have enough experience under your belt.

That bow is beautiful. Watching it being crafted is similar to watching someone paint or draw a masterpiece. Everything looks so...clean? It's strangely gratifying watching it all piece together. Also, well done on shooting a bow with that weight. Finally, thanks for the tutorial on the bowstring as well. The string and arrows are what I want to try next.

Have you considered serving the string on a heavy bow like that with 20-30# Monofilament? It really saves your fingers from getting bitten by the string when at full draw, and it gives you a really slippy release... string literally slips off of your fingers as soon as you relax them.

I wanted to make a pvc bow so bad but the only pvc I had was 1.5inch so I made one anyway and from what I can tell it's around 90ish lb around 30ish inches I call it a long bow it's 58.5 inches nock to nock strung

Another great video Nick.. I just finished up a dozen river cane arrows I've had drying since June. In the area where I live, the Native Americans took advantage of the fact river cane is abundant, and makes a very strong tough arrow. I've watched pretty much every video you've made, but I don't think I've ever seen you make river cane arrows. Might be a good project video for you. I glued in a small length of dowel rod, inserted in each end of the shaft, to fill the hollow space. I used four inch turkey feathers and on the point I used one of your ideas from an older video, where you made some trade points from mild steel. I used the faux sinew to lash the feathers and point.

I noticed that when you fail to get to full draw, you're using more of a straight back draw, whereas when you use the pushdown draw, you slowly but surely seem to get all the way back there. Something to keep in mind, perhaps?
@BackyardBowyer
@BackyardBowyer 3 года назад
Yes, I can only draw back so far. That's mostly arms and back, which are fast twitch muscles. The final push really uses the shoulders which are slow to engage but so very powerful! Thanks for watching!

Hey Nick, big fan here! Great video, as usual! I started achery recently as a hobbyist and the first thing I did was to purchase a bunch of pvc pipes and started heating them at the kitchen and pressing LOL I can make bows that deliver 30 lbs maximum, which is perfect for me to practice shooting... But my question for you is: what are the factors that contribute to draw weight in these pvc bows? I see that you can easily make bows that draws 50 lb or in this ridiculous case 105 lb !! How it's done ?
@GladstnJones
@GladstnJones 3 года назад
Question: can you leave PVC bows strung? Or are they like wooden bows and they need to be unstrung when not in use?
@ShadeSlayer1911
@ShadeSlayer1911 2 года назад
I unstring mine any time I'm not using them, but I'm pretty sure you can leave them strung without much problem. They might have a shorter lifespan and also set a bit more, but you should be relatively okay compared to wooden bows. If they're fiberglass reinforced, it might be even more okay.

Hello, I am wondering how much difference in performance is there between a 325 Paracord string and a Flemish twist bowstring on a pvc bow?

How comparable is the artificial sinew to B50 Dacron? I ask because I can buy it anytime where I work, if it's worth switching Dacron for it. Thank you!

What is the advantage of a 100 lb bow over a 50 lb bow ? Is the arrow speed constant, but the arrow weight double for the 100 lb. bow ?

How long did it take you to build up the muscle to be able to draw that bow?

I’ve shot 80+ pounds before, so it’s been more of a refresher than training for the first time. It’s been about 4 days since the bow was built. Thank you for watching!

would you be comfortable using a spectra/dyneema string in a bow such as this one, or does that require stronger reinforcement?
@BackyardBowyer
@BackyardBowyer 3 года назад
I don't see why it wouldn't work, but I have not put Dyneema or Spectra on a PVC bow over 80 pounds. It would be a good test once I get a shooting jig set up!

Thanks 👍. What's the penetration/distance like vs a 50 or 60lb bow?
@KageStelhman
@KageStelhman 3 года назад
Speaking from personal experience, My 55# @29" Reflex/Deflex bow will stick an arrow into a Hay Bail target about 14-15 Inches (with a 550 grain arrow traveling approx 175-180fps from 20yds). Now My younger brother has a 110# @31" British War Bow Replica. Now if using an 1100 grain Arrow (10 Grains per pound) it'll stop at the fletchings, on a 1200 grain+ arrow it'll blow straight through. Mind you that this is also shot from 20yds and the arrow itself is between 32-33" long, 1/2" OD* tapering to 3/8" at the nock, plus it's traveling substantially faster (190-210fps). *OD=Outer Diameter

Yes, just expect the draw weight to be higher. You can also make the bows about 6 inches longer to end up near the same weight.
