@@coloredwhite you are going to be paying for it, it is his job to add mechanics and features make a compelling game of course he doesnt have to its just an idea prolly not the best i mean its fine but hey if the dev can do something with it then he will
Absolutely true, but also a ridiculous amount of work. However, having watched this video and seeing how much shit this guy will do for an overlapping shadow, I think the challenge would be right up his alley. However, maybe not in the 1 month timeframe he has left. I'm sure there are other more important things he wants to get done.
It would be interesting to see hazardous objects on the floor where the player will be hurt when their hand touches it. These could include broken glass, chemical spills, etc.
@@helpimahugedisaster5728 not to mention about the part of a parasite is slowly crawling up inside the doctor himself, that must be a very unpleasant feeling to experience.
Having a limb ripped off would send most people into shock in minutes, having 3 at the same time is going to kill you almost instantly. But... maybe the parasite has the benefit of keeping the player alive as long as it doesn't reach the brain. The thing trying to kill you is what's giving you a fighting chance. I like it!
I have never once heard of you, or this game, but man, thank RU-vid randomness for leading me here. Hope the best for you man. You have alot of dedication to your craft.
I would absolutely love seeing blood trail out behind the character as you move. It could even interact with enemy AI by having them follow them follow your blood trails, or could help you from becoming lost. Or, what if for some reason, there's a blood trail that's not your own in a maze section to confuse you? To do this you could just move the ironing your wounds part from the beginning to later on in the game. I think it would be really amazing.
you're pretty much the monster in the horror game at this point. Just imagine a man with 1 arm no legs no left arm just one right arm and he just has a gun full sprinting at you edit: my mom doesn't care
Yes. If I was a monster I would also be concerned at how a guy is sprinting without legs. Im wondering if he would crawl like a snake or just straight up levitate
@@qwerasdzxchnd3247 He throws up his gun, pushes himself up on his one hand doing a handstand and catapults himself ahead before catching the gun midair. He then pulls the trigger, juggles the gun and the shells while still in the air to reload, before gracefully landing on the ground and repeating the process.
@@ender8166 it most certainly is not normal for someone to lose 3 of their limbs not to birth issues and keep moving by dragging themselves with their remaining limb to go on with life
This dude is already committing a massacre with one arm. Just one. Now imagine what he can do with even half decent prosthetics. I don't think the final boss I going to be much of a challenge to him.
I could see it happening like with quake where you got the alien's cybernetics power half way through the game after you got kidnapped and almost turned into one of them.
COMPLETELY NAILED IT!!! Man, I just bought this game, and I gotta say, this is a complete masterpiece in every aspect. Everything is on point!! I just love it! :D hope it becomes more popular
absolutly love the health system insted of just losing health randomly, giving it an in lore explination is just amazing. really happy youtube recomended this excited for when it releases.
@@reeth4629 I was thinking they were already paralyzed before all this started, and the infection was a bonus. Having all three of them removed reduced the weight he had to carry around.
I'm really happy you're turning this into a full game. Love the atmosphere and the gameplay. The reloading looks so satisfying. Good luck with the deadline and I look forward to playing this.
This is really freaking cool! I finally recently got into programming and really want to get into game development. I already have this interesting horror game in mind that I want to flesh out. Seeing this is definitely intimidating, as I still have a ton to learn, and actually listening to you explain your development process really goes to show how much time goes into these kinds of projects. Best of luck to you and the release!!
Ok I'll admit, the limbs torn off are a really good concept, and I LOVE the way you have to reload. Slow and agonizing to do repeatedly, just like how you have to move.
I don't know if perhaps this might be a little too small, but it would be really cool if the parasite would crawl on the character model towards the brain, similar to the health bar in Dead Space. Might make it a bit more immersive.
Wow I didn’t know squat about creating a game nor am I a fan of horror games. With all that being said you did such an awesome job of going into detail and overall throughly explaining everything you were doing. I’m now excited to see the finished product 😊
I think some kind of pulsing visual effect representing blood loss during the cauterizing scene would really help to increase the tension in the otherwise simple minigame
ALL OF THIS! I've never been down for top down, or horror games, but this is honestly fun sounding! I can see Mark and many top level RU-vidrs playing this, especially considering the A L G O R Y T H M.
Having the shotgun propel you backwards a bit would be cool, could mesh well with any slippery sections you may add (I can also imagine it being used in speedruns, if that's something you'd want to cultivate).
add something that gives you infinite ammo of a certain type, like a ammo box station or something. so if you need to use your shotgun shells to get through a level you dont need to worry about running out
@@Troll_main Well as he said in the video in horror games you want to feel like you are extraordinarily weak and can't do anything against the threat ,so being loaded up with ammo like its Call of Duty would ruin the point of the game and make it more of an action game than a horror game which is what the intent was ,but if it was targeted to be an action game that's a good idea.
Or at least let it throw your sim off a lot. I think throwing you backwards would make it too cartoonish but if you shoot and then you need to re aim completely just adds to the fact of how helpless you really are. Plus it makes sense since you only have on arm. OR 1/5 chance for the gun to fly out your hands
THIS IS AWESOME! I seriously like survival horror and a sense of claustrophobia and pure fear and body horror so this looks utterly incredible, here’s a slight suggestion, maybe have you able to find robot limbs if you complete the game 3 times on the hardest difficulty, I love secrets like that in games
Dude! This is INSANE! I've never heard of a horror game like this until now! Also love the inspiration being taken from Darkwood, which is my current favorite horror game! I really look forward to the full release of this game! I have a feeling it's gonna be the right balance of frustrating, horrifying, & entertaining!
Definitely. Not only does playing as a triple amputee limit the player’s mobility and make the game scarier by making them feel helpless, it also puts players in the shoes of a disabled person, giving them a glimpse of these people’s everyday struggles. What a fantastic idea for a video game. Not only could this be a unique and exciting indie game for survival horror fans like myself, but it could also potentially raise awareness for people with physical disabilities. My mom suffered from Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a disorder where your own body’s immune system starts attacking your nervous system. When that happens, you basically become paralyzed, and so she was confined to a hospital bed, not even able to swallow solid food, so they had to feed her through a tube. For a while it seemed like she was going to die, but thankfully she survived. It took several weeks of physical therapy for her to be able to walk again, and she had to use a walker to help her when she got out of the hospital. The doctors never thought she’d ever regain full motor function in her legs, but they were wrong. She persevered and she made a full recovery. It’s a miracle that she wasn’t dependent on that walker for the rest of her life, and it makes me very happy to know that she was did that, but there are a lot of people out there who weren’t as fortunate as she was. There are thousands of people with paralyzed or missing limbs who struggle like my mom did every day. I have seen first hand just how painful that can be, and if there’s even the slightest chance that this game can help bring awareness to this issue, then I wholeheartedly want to support this project in any way that I can.
What if there was a stamina system that just purely influenced audio? If a player moved more erratically or for longer periods of time there characters would make panicked noises or tired noises respectively. Not sure if its a good one but its a idea.
Idk how to make a comment that he can see but, it would be hella cool if he made a game mode in which a creature constantly followed you, and you could somehow sense it, increasing the tension of the setting. Or maybe some more "alive" ambient elements, like gas pipes with leaks, monsters destroying lab equipment (maybe just the sound of it haha), etc. Pretty cool game
What I like about this video is it highlights just how many hurdles you face trying to accomplish what seems like a really simple thing... and how game engines have a habit of getting in your way whenever you're doing something they don't expect. The first 5 minutes of this video summarises weeks (maybe months) of work, struggles, and relentless determination, just to get nice shadows and FoW. Bravo though, it's looking really good!
I think player model would look less silly if a portion of the missing limbs was still attached. It wouldn’t change the gameplay but it would make it seem more believable.
@@GldnClaw it is meant to be lumbs cut off and cauterized, so the lower body have to go, cuz even the hip can give some movement. The other arm can make a short stump since it does look a bit silly, like a torso with just an arm. The parasyte's tail is indeed a good idea.
@@sweetricecakeman8582 And now I am hunting demons But who's to judge? The logic here? When our limbs are down My arm and I can agree, That demons breed john wick And in the end the guns win
Just imagine having 3 of your limbs torn off, then having to agonizingly cauterize the wounds to stop it from bleeding… That’s an unimaginable amount of pain to go through! Game looks great! Awesome concept!
Wouldn't be that bad tbh. You'd be in shock until you die or a few hours after the cauterization. Frankly you'd just bleed out too fast to feel much pain. The painful thing would be the phantom limb pain afterward
you should make rooms with blood all over the floor, allows you to slide around, it seems like the most understandable way to add it into the game EDIT: removed relatable for the people questioning that, i didnt have any other words in mind for it
Glad that this guy is getting the recognition he deserves... Remember the clip where it all started with almost nothing to this... Big ups and hope this goes well for him
@@mildlydumbperson8465 The problem isn't accuracy, the problem is the insane knockback. If you fire it with one hand, the gun will fly off after one shot.
I've got a couple of ideas: 1. I think that the flares should illuminate the surroundings a bit more strongly, as they seem very underpowered in that aspect. 2. I'd be careful about the puzzles, as puzzles have partially ruined several otherwise great games that I've played before. It can be done though. 3. I can't stop you from releasing it before Halloween, but I'd advise that you take as much time as you need because rushed games rarely turn out well. Looks very promising!
I definitely agree with the flares aspect and also think they should not only be brightened, but maybe even create a lasting projectile that stays on the ground and continues to light up the area after it is fired. Also I think complex puzzles are fine for optional sections but not for solely gameplay progression. The roadblocks in just main story progression should probably only be boss fights instead of puzzles in my opinion.
He Needs to have Guns What Are Stronger but Less in Ammo so you can use the Map to change / Go into an Airlock to another station or watch on the CCTV cameras where the enemies are to throw them out of such Airlocks or Reduce the Air Quality
Considering this guy coded this game from scratch in around 15 hours of work time, he might actually be able to pull it off. Maybe that’s just wishful thinking, though
YEA DARKWOOD is amazing one of the best horror games for my opinion, its fantastic that someone be inspired from that game and actually your game is pretty sick, a bit short but so misterious i mean the gameplay time is perfect for the game is not too long but nont that short that you can end the game in a evening, i love your work hope to see the continuing soon :D
Its not only that, you need the skills to make it, the passion and effort crammed into the making of the thing and last of all the luck and impeccable trend timing, to make it big from nothing overnight, nothing is ever easy so go out there and start doing "stuff" and see what sticks instead of thinking
@@Bruhman_YUSS Im pretty sure there are plenty of videos which explain that. If you want to get more professional help, there are websites which have high quality tutorials of professionals explaining how to do stuff like that (I just cant remember the name). If you wanna do it, do it.
I can share an idea: A first person game where your character suddenly lost all the senses but you manage to turn it back on one by one, first can only see (and push stuff with nose or head), then can only operate one arm, then another, then one leg, then full body. Game will have puzzle elements and you mix medications or build prosthetics to restore bodily functions one by one.
Here's some ideas i have for items and guns: staple gun, shoots staples that have knockback, deal no damage and staple monsters to the walls for 5 seconds, making them unable to move, the staple gun uses staple cartridges to shoot, each cartridge is the size of a revolver bullet and has 20 staples which means you can shoot up to 20 times before you need to reload, staple cartridges are rare due to them having a lot of ammo and are more common in the lab area, it would make sense that a lab has staples parassite stopper, a syringe that when injected permanently slows down the parassite, you can find one in each area pointing any weapon at your head while no monsters are nearby will make you shoot yourself, killing you instanly
@@Overspark1999 well. Maybe in the tutorial, we get to learn how to move and reload, then we enter a cutscene where we lose the limbs. It def could work
Im not the best at audio design, but I feel like you should add reverb to the player's screams and all his coughs. It would really bring the immersion to the next level. Also, amazing job this is so so great
@@lancesrr4124 you need to know a few things first though, how to make recorded audio sound good, and how to record that audio at all. I recommend a blanket for echo cancling, I know this because I was going to make a youtube video about a warband mod but have not started besides recording some audio pieces... yet. Still don't know how to refine audio though, I have to figure out how that works still
His latest bunch of devlogs are pretty much perfection. I discovered him through his video about not wasting peoples time and was kinda shocked when looking at his early devlogs how meandering they were. I'm glad he changed his style.
Imagine how your neck and your arm must feel after all that Having just ONE LIMB sounds ridiculously uncomfortable... I'm all for the idea :D Suggestion: only have a leg instead for hard/alternate mode - you can really do quite a bit with a foot although it'll be a lot trickier
@@drxtale9446 I mean the idea was that you kinda could if you were, like, REALLY adept, but I see the improbability :P I used my feet for quite a few things lol
that is honestly a terrifying and also pretty funny concept because it just reminds me of "Just a flesh wound!" scene from monty python the holy grail.
I love how you go into a bit of detail on how you coded various parts of the game. Very illuminating for me wanting to learn that sort of thing! (Pun half intended with the shadow system and all that lol).
You should make the rat create a small visual at the edge of the screen at the same time it makes a noise, both to help with determining the direction of the rat and to help with players who are hearing impaired.
Some discord mod is gonna ship the parasite with a fucking scientist that just lost 3 limbs. That will be when I'll have to wash my eyes with every soap and shampoo bottle I have.
@@ender8166 but then you would found your actions futile as the trauma watching that stuff puts you through can't be washed off with merely skin friendly detergents, in such situations I would recommend bleach, maybe the physical and chemical pain will help you forget what you should not have seen
the fact that Wrought Flesh, Theyest Thou and Endoparasitic are all set in the same universe alone makes that the single most interesting interconnected game universe lol
Super awesome development already. Would be interesting to keep developing on the horror aspect of the game. Perhaps something related to an enemy who cannot see the player, but can hear them (kinda like the Warden from Minecraft). It would make the player have to make less noise, but at the same time keep moving from e.g. the rats. So having to move quickly, and stay still to not get killed by the *blind creature*

Your attitude of “… I just want there to be a lot to do, and the player to always be stressed out” is going to work out I think! Definitely focusing on those core gameplay mechanics! I love seeing dedicated developers still working on games
What an interesting concept! Having the very thing keeping you alive also be the one to inevitably spell your demise as you venture forth is thrilling to say the least.
