This tutorial shows how to build a setting for, and setting a faceted trillion. This is a pretty easy prong setting comparatively, so I'm going to rank this as intermediate. For materials, I used 16 gauge (1.3 mm) and 18 gauge (1.02 mm) sterling round wire, 12 gauge sterling square wire (2.01 mm), and 18 gauge sterling sheet (1.02 mm) sterling sheet. As always, I use hard silver sheet solder and My-T-Flux.

I love this setting! I was just talking to a fellow artist yesterday and we were commenting on how we were “scared” to try to set a trillion. Now I think I could do it after watching you, Chad. Thank you for sharing your skills!!

I had no idea that amethyst can be green. Pretty stone. You explained why the stone is green. My favorite color is green.

Heat treating it makes it light green apparently:). A lot of Citrine on the market is created from Amethyst as well similarly from what I understand.

Thank you so much for doing this tutorial Chad,it covered both the trillion stone and the bezel with prongs,which is exactly what I needed. Thank you. Question:when you said you did a notch in the sheet for the bezel ,did you just notch it top and bottom or did you go from the top to the bottom. I know its probably a dumb question but im still very much a novice.
@chadssilversmithing
@chadssilversmithing День назад
Thank you Jay! The notches were from the top to the bottom. No such thing as a dumb question:)

Would love to see what tools you use on your dremel to work those prongs. I'm affraid of scratching the stone.
@chadssilversmithing
@chadssilversmithing День назад
I use a knife edge white silicone abrasive wheel to shape the ends, and then use a blue (fine) knife edge silicone wheel to finish smoothing the prongs. Have to be a little careful to avoid the stone:)

@@chadssilversmithing thank you 😊 I don't have any of those, but I'll look for them. I only have those cup burs to round the ends of prongs.

It's stunning, but i feel like the prongs were a little too thin for such a big stone.

Hello chad; you never show exactly, how do smooth out the three prongs! I thibk, round prongs must very smooth out on this sider, what ist exactly holding the stone in place. To set a trillon stone is very difficulty to hold on the stone Günther Michael Clemenz !!!!!!!
