Or perhaps you've been wondering if it's possible to start an online business selling jewelry but you're worried about putting your body of work out there. Either way, the work starts right here in the studio. Follow along as I cover the philosophy of silversmithing and show you how to set a gemstone in silver. From Susan:
In my work, I use powerfully charged intentional crystal stones that can help enhance your vibration in different areas. Whether you are gifting my jewelry +crystal qualities for a family or friend or buying for yourself, choose each piece intuitively by what you are authentically attracted to and also what qualities that you are needing to bring into your life.
My new body of work, Rainbow chakra jewelry is made beautifully and purposefully so you can wear and carry each quality of a particular stone with you to create strong and powerful vibration, symbolism + talismans. My jewelry is intended to raise your vibration and give you a little boost in the area that you need and feel its significant power, for it all holds meaning and symbolism.
My work embodies light, love and joy in our world through specific combinations of symbols, gems and unusual objects. My line is created by using ancient metalworking techniques and extensive cultural + historical references in order for the weather to creatively express themselves through adornment and wear throughout time.

New subscriber here! I saw your other video on soldering and just purchased a screen and tripod (the only soldering tool I didn't have!!)😊 Anyway, I have an organic, eclectic jewelry business that has been doing art shows and internet business since 2014. I am solely self-taught and started with bead work, and now i do mostly wire wrapping and metal smithing. Thank you for your thorough and informative video, especially the videos on soldering and the essentials of successful soldering. It has improved my skills, and I just love you and your videos, so please keep them coming! Thanks again. ❤ Karyn (Incantations by Karyn)

Thank you so much for your tutorials. Love the idea of the nomadic tool kit. I am an acupuncturist, so am interested in all aspects of adornment including mind body spirit aspects including how the pieces interact with the Acu/marmara points on our bodies. Talismanic aspects interest me also.

Hi Susan. Great class. Where do I get the "scratch bite pen" you use to clean up the inside of the backplate after you've cut out the hole (time stamp 42:32)? Something like that would be incredibly helpful. Thanks!

I would never solder a bezel to that much sheet. Your students should know that sterling is the most conductive metal for heat which means that the solder will not flow until the entire mass reaches the same temp need to flow the solder. With this much of a heat-sink, it's easy to burn off the flux before the solder flows. Also each time you use this sheet as a back plate you are introducing more fire stain deeper into the metal. For a stone of this size I find it better to cut down the rectangle of sheet to just what I need for the project and hold a corner in a third hand and heat from below. If I'm concerned that the plate will sag, I support the opposite side with a 2nd third hand. Even with the plan to use the solder to also attach the rope embellishment, I feel the amount you used was overkill. Finally I think you could attach the last piece of wire with medium solder as it's stronger than easy. As the medium has been heated twice, it's melting temp has increased so the danger of things shifting is not great if you're careful with the torch. From a silversmith with 47 years experience

Good thing that all silversmiths operate and build their work in different way and in different styles. I am glad that you have your own style of building .cheers

Great video! What about the metal edges of the lid to your pickling bath? Does that not react to the solution?
@SusanLenart
@SusanLenart 4 месяца назад
Good question! Although through the years it never has seems to bother the pickle. Another fact is as soon you pull your metal out ( if you accidentally put it into the pickle ) the pickle will be back to normal

Yes, I use extra solder because if you see further in the film, it saves you from having to add more solder when I am putting silver twisted wire around the bezel. No mess! It end up under the decorative wire Enjoy
