My understanding of poppin cookin things is that if the box is in Japanese, you will get something that tries taste like it looks. If it is in English, it will taste like candy. I don’t know if this is universal but I’ve done maybe a dozen and that’s the standard I’ve found.

Funny thing about food commercials: The reason why anything featuring “mozzarella cheese” is so convincing is because mozzarella really can stretch like that sometimes! One time I got a pizza from Your Pie (it’s a Build-Your-Own-Pizza type restaurant, if you haven’t heard of it) and the pizza I got had cheese so stretchy that the other slice, which my sister was holding, was literally across the table and the cheese was still in-tact. It’s insane!

I don't know if people realize it, but the kits they sell in Japan are totally different from the ones that are made to be sold in the U.S. It looks like you have the American version of the burger kit in this video, since the boxes only have English writing on them. I had the Japanese version of the burger and fries one, that I ordered off of Amazon and then I got an American version of that same kit, with English directions on the box, at a local Japanese grocery store. The ingredients and directions were completely different and the American one was totally disgusting. In the Japanese version, it's meant to taste as much like a real burger and fries as possible. So the buns are made out of real flour that you have to cook in the microwave to bake it into actual burger buns. And the patty is made out of bean powder, that you also have to cook in the microwave, and it actually taste like meat. And of course, the fries are made out of actual potato powder, so they taste real, too. But in the American version, everything is made out of this disgusting tasting candy powder, that you don't have to cook at all and it also looks way worse when you put it together. The only thing that was the same between the two kits was the soda. Why do the Japanese think that Americans prefer such a crappy product? I wonder if they actually did any market research, or they just assumed Americans would want the inferior one.

I lost it at the beginning with Donkey saying the waffles line in Japanese. Love the effort there, Toasty.

The burger and fries one used to have a savory version (maybe it still does?) That was the original. The ramen, pizza and "kid's bento" also were savory ones. But then somewhere along the way they decided to also make candy versions of them too. They also have the candy flavored versions in the Japanese version. There's an ice cream one I really like. It has vanilla, strawberry and ramune flavor. I don't know how they do it, but the ice cream candy has the exact texture as real ice cream.

The tray you put the corn in after rolling has little bumps in the bottom that were supposed to hold the kernels in nice even rows so you could roll it in there, making the kernels stick to the yellow gummy stuff a bit prettier, hah But all that matters is the fun and flavor in the end, so that doesn't matter too much, hehehe

The first one was pretty neat, reminds me of going to Matsuri in Little Tokyo as a kid.

The original burger kit was savoury, but they changed it to sweet for Americans. I legit loved the taste of the original, it was strange, but so unique, and if you go in not expeting sweet candy, it's a lot better. And the original fries did taste like potato, the powder even smelled like instant mashed potato powder

I remember getting the burger one from japan and it was savory and i really didn't like it at all. You also had to cook it in the microwave.

The corn was rolled in the wrong tray 😅. The kernels were supposed to go into the tray beside the apples, where you out them at the end. You can see the dented texture in the bottom of the tray. That was meant to sort of catch all the kernels and lay them flat for you to roll the cob on 😅

i had these when i was younger i remember the burger kit one wanted you to microwave the buns, burger and fries its strange now knowing they changed it to let them sit till harden it looks more gross imo for reference though it was about 9 years ago when i had them so they definitely could've changed the instructions.

I did the burger one like 10 years ago and it was way different like you had to cook like everything in the microwave it tasted like tiny McDonald's fries and meat. Only reason the burger felt off was cause the buns were like cake for some reason it was weird

I think that the foods in the Japanese Festival candy kit are supposed to be foods that you can order at the food stalls at Japanese Festivals! And those are candy apples, chocolate dipped bananas, and corn on the cob! XD
