Mike I picked up wood from a yard this week that had been cut and split with a processor. 100 cords in 5 hours. Fellow has $300,000 (CDN) processor fed with logs from 3 logging operations. Minimal muscle power with logs fed, cut, split, and piled all by machine. Don't go this big though. Part of the attraction is watching you doing a multitude of things. 👍

Buy this time next year, sounds like quite a plan. I cut 12 to 15 cord a year. It can be alot of work but like you I enjoy it. Thanks for ideas and tool ideas you have shared over the years.

Up here in Maine, the Falmouth Lion's sold out of our 24 cords a month ago. We are just a small operation with volunteers. Our 2024 firewood is in the yard all processed and we will be starting on our 2025 firewood. 24 cords is our comfort level and we process another 5 cords for our 2 firepit wood stands. Got a surprise from Allen Family Firewood yesterday. They donated and delivered us 1+ cord of red oak that was bucked and split. Kudo's to Karen and Phil. The biggest hurdle in the firewood business is return on investment. For us, it is easy fundraising, no labor costs and I own the land and equipment. Good content on your channel.

Great to hear that you are considering the firewood as a "bank" type asset. You have all of those downed trees to salvage and all of the poles in the two places. You spoke of quality and selling dry, hardwoods, but when the need arises, any kind of wood will burn. Sure, you can charge less for the high moisture content stuff, but at least it does not lay around rotting in the woodlot. When customers want firewood and need it desperately, they will buy what is available. You could sell a lot of "chunk" firewood without the cost of splitting. let the customer dry and split the rounds. However you cut it, the wood will always have a buyer.

Ill give u advice as a guy who sells 300 to 600cord a year .don't do the 12inch wood .when u start doing custom orders its a pain ,if the guy backs out then you can be stuck with that order .keep it at 16 inches

Just a thought... you may want to carry a small selection of related products as well... firewood racks, fireplace tools/accessories... grill tools/accessories... etc. We used to collect our firewood with sort of a firewood duffle... kind of like the newspaper satchel but made out of leathery stuff ... it fit into our fireplace rack by our fireplace and we always had 2 of them... one to hold and one to go collect more. Diversifying a little just might provide another revenue stream.

Awesome video as always Mike, you’re on top of everything with a great plan. I love the way you think. I’m in Western NC, where we have rattlesnakes and copperheads. I have 28 acres, and was hiking one Fall, in new crispy Leaves. I took a step and heard fast rattles in front of Me. I froze and Looked down, it was a large black snake….shaking the tip of its tail as a warning sign… in the leaves. Just wanted people to be aware, they can let you know…just like a rattlesnake.. if they have some crisp leaves. I don’t mind snakes like you, but almost stepped on it. Thank God it wasn’t a rattlesnake. Keep up the great videos, I love watching all of them.💯👍

Hi Mike, Millisa, once again I have suggested this to you in several comments. Consider putting in a second wood bunker, in the wood yard. Wright next to the wood bunker that you all ready have. And it may be time to get a wood processor. Create more wood faster, and easier. My best to you and your family, Joe Capo

Those totes are great if the person you are delivering to has a way to handle them, otherwise they're pretty useless. The only use I'd have for one is if I cut them down to about 1/2 their height, and used them to hold kindling, or put them on the back patio and filled them up...my tractor won't lift the full size ones when they're loaded, I doubt it would even handle one that's cut in half when its loaded up. But, if you use them as storage for easy access off a covered patio, or deck, or use directly out of them, it ain't so bad, moving them on the other hand requires some pretty large equipment that many people don't have. I have some 55 gallon drums cut in half that I use to keep my kindling in, 4 of them on a pallet and the light weight of the kindling my little tractor has no problem lifting that, so I have 2 pallets with 4 of the 1/2 drums on them full of kindling and stacked in the back of the other side of my wood shed...makes storing the stuff nice and easy. My tractor might pickup a tote if its been cut in half if I just filled it with kindling, but to pickup a 1/2 tote of firewood, I have serious doubts LOL.

Mike, I think the next step for you to seriously increase production is a processor. Especially since you can consistently get nice firewood poles. I have the same dilemma. But there’s really no way I can make more faster. I’m a one man operation with my 28c.

Morning Morgans, looks like its gonna be a rainy one here in central Pa today. Fall is here and winter is just around the corner, man that was a fast summer. If you were a tad closer I would consider purchasing firewood from you, actually if i had a little blue trailer like you just got I could easily go grab my own wood. Good luck with your plans to size up the firewood operation, lots of work but I know you will be successful. Have a day!! Jay from central Pa.

He needs a much larger place to stockpile firewood, and he needs to do it in bulk and do away with the time wasting totes....and only sell close by for deliveries, no hauling of totes for deliveries, or pickup, that takes too much time stacking all the pieces in those totes....either buy it by the trailer load, or go somewhere else. Offer selling rounds too, not just split....that'll save a lot of time too. Totes sound great until you are out there loading them, a lot of time wasted doing that, moving them around, storing them, etc.

Morning, So I invision that in the next 2 years you will have a processor that you feed 20 , 30 ft. logs with circular cutoff , multi split head and trash pickup. Conveyor sloped to horizontal with deflectors to drop into totes or trailer . Multiple drops allowing continuous operation and no stacking in the totes . Continuing the pavilion to keep it all under roof. My dream of the Morgan evolution. Lol !

You really should grab a 40’ shipping container and build a kiln with a couple used chicken house fans and a little firebox underneath the container… appears that you can dig a little pit and block out the center underneath the container… add some vents… I’ve got an old American eagle or something like that cast iron twin door wood stove and you wouldn’t need more heat and humidity elimination then that… could circulatory fans going for the 10 days or whatever and it’s just ready to sell !!! You have a trailer load every two weeks not even counting the lumber you would be able to process over the year!!! All my local tree guys love to give the big tree’s away for free just to have a place to unload the monster wood. If you have any newer communities or development’s around you they are solid gold… that tote is a 1/3 cord and I was getting $150 to refill the totes we had in the clients garage’s a little electric blower clean up and you usually have several per trip… it’s $450 per cord for your mixed hardwood… smaller split’s and very clean wood so you get a premium! Often times we’d never see one empty! 😉👍. More often then not you would be delivering a 1/4 cord… sometimes folks would be around 1/2 way empty so you might get 1/6th of the cord unloaded…. It’s a little bit more handling to fill up the tote neatly and blow out a garage but you would often get handed a pretty good tip or 2 bills for your 20 minute fill up! Out of 64 homes we had 34 of them as clients firewood-turf maintenance and landscaping work… I remember that video where the guy was visiting you because he had started watching your channel and it cost him $500,000k or something because he moved to a property so he could sell wood? Can’t remember his channel name but he was buying the ibc totes from the Pa fella who has a kiln made for the 40’ container! A little inspection and a Q and A on what he would do differently and I can’t imagine that it would take more then a couple days and a couple grand to toss it together and be drying the firewood… kiln dry firewood fetches a premium and it’s a two week turn over not a two year deal so you don’t need to use that 10 acres for drying out your inventory!!!! You start kiln drying some beams for construction or mantle pieces and custom wood projects and you’re definitely making some decent bank! We don’t have the huge property anymore so I’m really really thinking about building one and doing more firewood and lumber sales…. Still busy with the tree removal work so maybe in a couple more years???? Hey… I’m 20 miles west of Philadelphia so I’m definitely interested in going to look at that fellas kiln he built with the 40’ box trailer shipping container dude.,. Where your buddy was going to buy the totes over there… It’s just crazy not to have a couple of those things going full time and have quick firewood business supply and the sawmill lumber being kiln dried is definitely a huge deal and some great revenue stream! I’m 53 and have been working in the landscaping and tree removal work for most of my life and I just hate to see these fantastic hardwood trees going into the grinder and I’m paying to dump them instead of selling them all as lumber??? Seem’s crazy to not have a wood scrap fired kiln running. Those box floor’s are pretty solid so a little fire to get the internals up to the 180? For 14-18 days or whatever seems pretty simple actually???

Mike, will you get a 2nd cutter / processing station set up in the newly developed area so the trip from the splitter to the storage shed will be very short? If you kept the regular length firewood near the house and the specialty sizes or segregatd species at the new facility, you wouldn't have to work so hard to change sizes, keep them split into the right bin or stall, and minimize handling. Any chance that one of the colleges that have forestry or land management classes would have students looking for some part time work to help you knock out a large supply of cut & stacked wood waiting to dry out for next year?

Mike, what do you sell a basket of wood delivered in your area? What is a cord of wood delivered going for? Thank you and your family for all your great videos. Keep up the hard work.

I reckon you’d benefit from one of those firewood processors that you put on the front of your skid steer mike

Mike I think if you're going to increase firewood volume you're going to need one of those automatic splitters they have at the shows you go to, the one's you just drop a whole tree on it and it cuts and splits all at once. That would save you a ton of time and increase capacity. Just my 2 cents.

A good quality one, that will do more than 4cords an hr, cost $150k+ USED !!!!!. I've looked at them. I like the Multitek 2040xp they handle up to 40' log lengths.. zip zip ...

If he reached out to Easton made or another brand I’d bet they would give him one just to use on channel.

Think about a concrete bunker like at the wood yard only cover it, you can scoop with the loader then

Good morning from Upstate South Carolina. I was wondering if you would ever get a firewood processor. Have another productive day.

I know you have a plan and it sounds perfect. If you ever need to throw ideas around. Have you ever heard of another RU-vid channel. Hometown Acres with Adam. He mentioned some of your same concerns. Just in case you had never heard of him.

Mike, we do have poisonous snakes in Western PA. A very good friend of mine died from a rattlesnake bite at his camp in Elk County several years ago.

Trick is to dry it fast! I built a kiln just for firewood.. trailers made out of rebar,,, and a shipping container with a wood stove at the far end, which was cut out where we had a 12x12 cement wall room with a huge wood stove... We loaded it with a skid steer.... All crappy wood... back four trailers full in... there dry in two days.... The trailers were cheep built, no springs just axle, hitch and framing kind of like you IBCs.... with rebar....

I live close to Springfield MO and around where I live looking on Facebook market place a few people selling the totes. So of them still have the bladder in the totes so not sure how to get rid of them. The prices of the totes are pretty cheap. They would make a great place to store the wood like you do.
