Homemade apple juice and apple sauce is SO delicious and healthier than anything you buy-also, less expensive. I hope you can sometime have the opportunity to try this! Steam juicing allowed me make both at the same time.

When I was really little we lived outside of Salida and one side of the property was a dedicated apple orchard. When it was time my family would go out and harvest apples from sun up to sun down. The smell of those freshly harvested apples rates as one of my favorite memories. Thank you for sharing this juicing method. I can only imagine how wonderful your kitchen must smell as you juice away! Many blessings. 😊

Hiya Cathy! Thanks for sharing both the steam juicer and steam canner..they are brilliant! I moved back 'home' to the east coast. My big homestead was getting to be way more work for an aging widow than I could enjoy. Now am in zone 7a..starting over. Lol. Found a peck of 3 different 'crisps' apples after moving..and HAD to make apple butter😁. Threw the cores and peels in freezer to make Apple Scrap jelly later. I actually love the pristine look of your juice...thank you sharing the whole process! Take care Cathy💗

Here's a tip I seen on another video. Pour the juice from the first jar back into the steamer. Why? Because the hot juice sterilized the inside of the tube killing any little nasties that may have been hiding in it. I thought that was a great tip!

I've never seen a steam juicer, very interesting video Cathy. I'm surprised the juice at the beginning and end don't taste a bit different. I was considering a mill and press for cider making; but maybe I'll need to consider a juicer too!
@northstarprepsteader
@northstarprepsteader 3 года назад
I love apple juice from a wood mill. There’s nothing like that taste and consistency! But, because that is a huge piece of equipment that I don’t have a place to store for, or the money, I think this juicers can do just fine. I think the juice at the beginning is probably more flavorful, so ideally I should probably throw all the juice into a pot so the flavors can blend if I want something consistent. It is so easy to use.

@@northstarprepsteader Thanks for the reply! my brain said beginning / middle / end might vary a bit.. but if it's only a little, who cares! and like you said, you could mix, if desired. Regardless... I love that machine - a neat method I've never seen!

I made grape juice from red grapes for the 1st time ever..im so new to this but I'm a little confused as to should I put the fleshly extracted juice in a Jar and into the boiling water if I'm to consume it the same day? What's the point of this process? Awesome video thank you! I will try this for for some apple sauce yummy
@northstarprepsteader
@northstarprepsteader 2 года назад
If you plan on drinking it within a few days, just put it in the fridge. If you choose to can it for your shelves/pantry, then you will need to have the juice hot for processing in the water bath canner.

I have been thinking about trying this, but I'm just wondering if you sacrifice any flavor of your sauce by extracting all the juice off first? I did it recently with crab apples. But, since it was the first time i'd ever tried crab apples, I didn't have anything to compare to. I used my crab apple juice to make jelly with, and both the sauce and jelly were delicious!
@northstarprepsteader

I didn’t really notice much difference. If you do, you can flavor with cinnamon or something.

@northstarprepsteader

I believe apple juice and tomato juice are the only ones. Not any citrus juices. Other veggie juices (carrot) need to be pressure canned.

That looks cool, does it do what a pressure canner does or just equal to the water bath? Have you ever made jelly from your scraps?
@northstarprepsteader
@northstarprepsteader 3 года назад
It is equal to a water bath canner. I love it because it takes far less water and energy to heat all that water. SO easy! I’ve not made jelly from scraps but I have made vinegar. I make very little jelly because I just don’t eat it.
