Making Cutting Boards for Extra Money 

I think probably the two most important items to have for making cutting boards or pieces when multiple pieces of wood are to be glued together. Nice work and video.

I use propane heaters in my shop …. 2 tanks , the heaters are your typical Best Buy or any sporting goods I run them on low … one at one side and one at the other .. my shop is 12 by 24 … not very big but it’s insulated … those 2 heaters keep me in a t-shirt in the dead of winter 🥶 in idaho …. And they last a solid month or more … it cost me 25 bucks a month to heat my shop … the heaters I bought new and the tanks I bought used , for a great price.. in a couple months I had what I needed …. I spent 20 bucks on 2 used tanks and then had them certified for 5 bucks each ….. the heaters are 39 .00 bucks each …. So my total 110.00 bucks … pretty cheap way to heat a shop and the cost is 25.00 bucks a month to heat my shop for 3 months a year .. that’s a great deal and a way to stay nice and warm in the winter .

I would use the cutting boards as a backup job. Quote your other jobs higher. If you don't get an job, then do the cutting boards. You'll get the cutting board money for sure. So why not "gamble" and quote other jobs higher ? Here's what I do. My plan B is cabinet counters for restaurants which I do when I want in my 10x14 garage (I cut a "kit" that I assemble on site). I'm always looking for work (I do trim, bathroom and cabinets). I quote fairly high and don't have to worry about not getting the job. If I'm getting the job then it's for a price that's worth it. Having a plan B gives me assurance to ask for more money to the clients without blinking. If I was crying for work, they'd sense it and bargain. People are canibals ;) Thanks the plywwod shim tip for the planner ;). Here is a tip for you, make yourself a plexiglas cursor and get a 4' Starrett metal adhesive tape. This way you won't have to pull out your tape every time you make a cut on your table saw ! Cheers

Wood is EXPENSIVE here on the Hawaiian Islands. Oak, Maple, and Mahagony here cost about $7.00 a foot for 1 x 3 lumber. That's from HD. Going to a speciality shop the price for stuff like purple heart or other "rare" woods start at at lest $25 for a 1 x 3 2 feet long. Unless I can find rich people I don't see making money on cutting boards. That's all atleast S2S lumber.

Question, please: what's the name or tree name of the whiter wood? Very nice video. Nice and dark (realistic).... I like to cook, so I am about to go make me a cutting board. There's a lot of knowhow to it, because one cuts food items (perishable) on it. Thanks

To have the hobby fund itself, that is my initial goal. I just put a lot of dollars into a cabinet table saw so I've got to make and sell stuff to get that initial investment back. So I know where you are coming from that's for sure.

Where are you located and what is your price point on these vs cost?

Love the project. You could be MORE effective if we could hear your voice over the music, though I like that, too.

Nice setup! I'm trying to make a charcuterie board without a table saw and it seems impossible. I should probably buy a hand plane but I can't cut a straight line with a hand saw so I used a router and edge guide to rip the pieces down... Terrible craftsmanship.

Where do you sell your cutting boards?

I am new to the hobby, but make very good quality cutting boards. I am having a problem marketing them. What is the best way to sell them?

Nice video, however please be careful crossing your hand over the front of the miter when cutting. 🤙

Unfortunately the music often overrides your narration. I literally could not hear what you were saying at times for the music being so loud in comparison to your voice.

You need to quit the background music. Whenever you’re talking, you don’t want that annoyance in the background. Mainly because you can’t hear a word that you’re saying. Other than that? Great job!

Hate to be that guy but, the music in your video was a little too loud and made it hard to hear what you were saying. Just food for thought.
