I’ve been saving my hair from cuts for several years to be able to do this because I have salt and pepper hair so no other extensions look natural. I have no idea why people would think it’s more weird to use your own hair than someone else’s or a synthetic. It’s a perfect match in color and texture 🤷🏻♀️ I’m not trying to add length, just put some volume back in 👍 Thanks for the tutorial.
Uhm- call me stupid but, I’m not really completely understanding. Why on earth, someone would cut their hair only to make themselves hair extensions to put back in their hair makes no sense to me not at all.
@@paulajelen1351extensions are used to add volume or make hair thicker. Also having extensions means you can still have long hair when you want for events but daily you can enjoy easier to manage short hair.
I'm glad I thought about watching videos about hair extensions. So yesterday my son asked me to cut his hair, after a couple of years letting it grow. I cut about fourteen inches and his hair is still shoulder length. Anyhow, this is so cool, I'm going to make my own hair extensions from my son's hair! How cool is that?!!! Thank you for sharing this video!
I’ve been looking for a video like this for years, this is so exciting. I want to collect my hair fall and save it and eventually I’ll have enough that I’ll be able to make extensions! My hair is pretty long rn too.
same! been collecting (which grosses out my bf lol) since I saw that damn tik tok vid about it about a yr ago, then gonna cut it but then will always have the perfectly matching extensions if I ever wanna add volume/ fake longer hair for a day etc.
This is sooo cool! I would rather wear my own hair that I grew versus someone else’s hair. I think it’s more weird to wear someone else’s hair to be honest.
Yea I’m a dude with hair down to my waist and it just got unmanageable. Hated how it felt against the back of my neck ( epic autismo sensory moment ) so imma make some wefts like this and wear extensions if I ever have anyone I wanna impress. Short hair is just so manageable and cool; and I’m tired of pulling my hair out every time I undo the daily bun to keep that shit up XD Nice tut, ty!
My 3rd born has insanely thick hair, and went from waist to pixie. Because of previous dying she can't donate it, buy I th8nk I will make some extensions for if or when she would like long hair again :) very cool idea!
I have fine thin hair, a beautiful strawberry blonde/red. I cut my hair once a year or less and have saved the clippings for decades. My thoughts were that maybe they'd be able to make me a wig with all my clippings when I started thinning bad. I just might try making myself an extension or two after seeing this video! Thanks for posting!
Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for. I am ready to chop my hair off but was wondering if I’d be able to make extensions with it. However, I may need to grow it a bit longer based on your recommendation that the hair is at least 12 inches 😕to make extensions.
This is exactly the video I’ve been looking for. I’ve saved 3 ponytails that I cut off over the years with the idea that I might want to do this someday (especially cause I have such fine hair). Now I might actually try and do something with them!
I made it to the end lol. I have insanely thick hair and can’t deal with it anymore but I really love it. I was looking up to see if I could get my hair made into a wig and found this video. It’s an amazing idea. Think theater groups, using hair from hair dressers maybe, Cos players too, LARPers. I don’t think it’s ick, or at least if I was in control of it and it was mine, it’s not ick lol.
Thanks for this. I have alopecia and bought an inexpensive headband wig. It is way longer than I want so I was going to cut off about half of it and thought I might be able to make a hat wig using the excess that I cut off from the headband wig. Just didn't know how to make the hair into wefts. This was helpful!
Very useful, I initially wanted to have a personalized wig made from my mom’s, sisters and daughters hair for my chemotherapy treatments but I was told that I don’t have enough (even with a full bag!). I had this suggestion of clipping the hair on my actual wig, but nobody wants to sow them to secure the hair! I will definitely try your technique so I’ll be able to carry my hole family on my head during chemo! Thanks!
Very well done so thank you but you dropped the ball when showing the end video regarding clips. How do you sew them in? Where are they supposed to be? How do you put them in? Need more info.❤
It’s not weird at all! People spend thousands on virgin natural hair extensions/wigs! I am the weird one lol, I have adhd and ocd so I was wondering how much hair I loose everyday and anytime I shower I don’t let any of my hair go down the drain so I slab it on the wall and toss it but the past couple of days I have saved the longest strands and put them together and I have the beads so I pressed all the hair together and now im wondering if I could eventually have enough to do a weft. My hair is almost too long for my extensions I have now. I will most likely get bored and give up. My hair is 26 inches and I don’t plan to cut it but my hair is thin and I wish for it to be thicker. So if I do decide to make wefts it will be for me. You did a great job!
You could use them to add volume, make a clip-in fringe or long length to cover a fringe for a different look, or you could dye it to fun colours for realistic clip-in highlights!
Ive been wanting to do this with my hair because my hair texture and color never matches hair extentions. I just never new how i would do it. Thank you
Thank you. I had hair extensions years ago that were braided in, but the maintenance was way too expensive and they really didn't look that great. No one I talked to had any idea how to utilize the extensions, now I know how to make them myself as clipons or with combs.
LOVE ❤this! This is EXACTLY 💯 what I was looking for. I wanted to learn how to make wefts for extensions and to make wigs with. I'm just embarking on this new adventure but I'm SUPER EXCITED. Your video showed me EXACTLY 💯 what I needed to know and in a very simple understandable way that was also very FRIENDLY & ENJOYABLE 😊. Thank you. And of course I subscribed.
I have 3 questions: Do you need a "heavy duty" sewing machine? Where do you buy double needles? What stitch are you using? Edit: Also, would it be better to, if you have long hair and are wanting this to add volume or, say, a clip-in fringe/bangs, would you fold the hair in half and do the stitching in the middle? Or is better how you're doing it to maximise the length?
You do not need a heavy duty sewing machine, thats just the one I had. The link to double needles is in the description. I just bought them off amazon. The machine settings are: Zig-Zag stitch, 7-8 tension, 2 width, 0.5 length. If you want to add volume or make bangs go ahead and try folding it in half!
I’ve been sitting here googling to try to find out how to make extensions out of my hair. I have a biracial little one who wants my long blonde Elsa hair.. not wants hair “like” mine, she literally said Yaya i want your hair on my head. She’s going to get that wish. 😂 my hair is almost to my waist now so o just need to make sure somebody gets it to the right shade of frozen before i chop it off for my sweet Coco.
I'm sp saving my hair for my next cut. Been thinking of making these! As I age my thickness isn't what it once was. This is awesome. Now we need to learn how to sew the hair onto clips!
Haha, you cut your hair and gasped that it's so short now, and I keep complaining that my hair is too long and it is half the length you cut yours to.😂 Seriously though Nice video. I've Been toying with the idea of growing mine simply to harvest and do this with it😂
awesome vid! i thought it was weird/gross at first when I saw those vids for collecting fallen hair, until you realize wtf is the diff between getting the real-hair extensions (ie the more expensive and 'better' ones, not to mention if you look into that whole real hair industry it's really sh*tty and exploitative; as for donating for cancer, turns out most of those orgs toss out most samples or sell them, so there goes that). but yeah, the actual weird part is: why are we grossed out by our own hair? lol i dunno but i was, too, but like with most things u just get used to it/desensitized and now I'm no longer grossed out and have been attempting to collect it on pieces of tape (my bf is still grossed out tho lol).
I have been looking for someone to help me make extensions with this beautiful pony tail hair I have. I would pay you. Please contact me. Kind regards ~Jamie~
With good hair its so luxurious to be abundant and feels like self betrayal to cut yet the ability to enhance an already full hair looks keeps such a radiant and high spirit so proud of both to which there cannot be a dollar assigned value...priceless great video
This is amazing. I wish I had a sewing machine. You should do a video for those “messy bun” look ponytails or real hair hair clips 😂 I hope you know what I mean. That would be fun.
I've had a bag of my own hair for years waiting to donate but never did. This could be the solution to some of my in-between grow out problems... The color match is phenomenal 😂
I wouldn't donate hair. Last I checked the charities are chock full of donated hair. What they actually need is money for running the operation and wigmakers to make the usable hair into wigs. Unless your hair is actually great quality and long, and/or a rarer colour naturally, they can't even really make a buck by selling your donation. And I know my hair isn't nearly long and god quality enough to make that cut, so unless they're short on my specific colour, my donation would just waste their time and resources and inflate their garbage disposal fees.
Thanks a lot for this great instruction video. I would never wear wigs or hair extensions from human hair other than my own because hair contains DNA and I find it creepy. However, I was able to make weft from my own hair following your instructions. I cut my hair before my 1st chemo session and since I love my hair I was not ready to part with it. This allows me to continue to look my natural me. I attached the wefts to a headband and all I have to chage is my hat.
Personally I would trim it about halfway & glue a strip of fabric over the hair above the stitch. It will make it last longer & it'll be way easier to sew the clips on it
Beautiful! Thank you so much for this video! :) I initially thought I would bury my hair and give it back to the earth when I chopped off my hair months ago. I ended up feeling too lazy to dig up a place and bury and just never got around to it. The idea of sewing myself hair extensions with my own hair came to mind as there are days where I want long hair. So, I did a quick search and found this. This is perfect and looks super easy, thanks! :)
THIS IS TOTALLY AWESOME ❤ YOU ARE SO LUCKY TO HAVE THIS IDEA WHILE YOU HAVE LONG HAIR MEANWHILE ME LOL I am trying to figure out how to get my online extensions easy to wear...thank you for being so creative and confident to share with the world!!!❤
I have red hair so its impossible to get extensions that match; ive been saving my hair all of my life & i cant wait to make a ton of extensions! Im also gonna make a rat tail one, having a real rat tail is a pain to style all the time lol. Thanks for the tutorial!!!
I’ve been looking for a video like this for a while. Have you considered doing this for someone else’s hair ? If so please let me know, I’ll be very interested.
This is brilliantly done, my dear! Just the perfect combination of info and video. Making wefts of my daughter's gorgeous hair for her to use when she wants long hair again! Women pay extravagant prices for real hair wigs, so don't listen to those children who think its gross! 😉
I've wanted to make things from my own hair because there is no matching the color with commercial products. My hair has every color except black in it. I've always thought it was strange that people get freaked out by hair.
Which glue would you use if you didn't want to make a sew weft? I'm thinking PU skin weft tape/glue, but I can't find instructions on how to use it on hair.
Amazing! I'd rather use my hair than someone elses :) The problem I have is I cut off the hair 15 years ago and now the hair on my head has turned grey. Wonder if I could dye my old cut off hair?
This is awesome! I cut my hair a year ago, and have thought about making it into curtain bangs rather than cut my bangs again. I don't think it's weird to sew your own hair. I would rather my cut off hair get some use rather than it get thrown away due to be dyed and all that. Thank you!
OMG thank you so much for this tutorial! I'm transforming my extremely long blue wig into a thicker bob cut for my Jester Lavorre cosplay. This is just what I needed 💙
Thank you! I've been calling salons to see about doing this and they all have no idea. My problem is thinning hair... and the longer it gets, the worse it looks. So I thought of cutting about 5" off and using that to add width and volume to my hair in a shorter shoulder length style.
I have fine hair and was thinking the same thing. Also, I’ve done extensions but since the texture is different from my texture I could tell the difference between them and hoped I could have extensions for volume from my exact hair. I am going to think how I can do this.
