Making Faux Washi Tape - 1st method

More using up paper scraps from the scrap paper tray. I have set myself a challenge to use it til it's gone! 😄 #useittilitsgone
Todays video shows two sets of faux washi tape. The first set is some faux washi tape strips that I made and recorded 26/01/24. The second set is one continuous washi tape strip that I made and recorded 12/12/23, which is why you will see that the scrap paper tray is much fuller in the second part of the video lol.

Bonny!!! You came through again!!!!!! I knew it would be a wonderful idea and I wasn't disappointed!!! This strip of faux washi tape is fabulous!!!!!!!

Thanks Betty! I really love how they turn out. I don't recommend the double sided tape though. Too much hassel and I'd prefer to use glue any way lol. 😄💚

Thank you Pattie! It turns out great. I really love it! Glad you will make some too! Yeh I don't recommend the double sided tape. I'd rather just glue it down to be honest lol. I think even with the double sided tape on, I'd still end up adding glue because I don't trust the double sided tape to last very long lol 😆💚

I am really enjoying your videos since finding your channel. I can certainly commiserate with you about the low vision; I have macular degeneration so craft with that impediment! But, not going to stop crafting. Now eager to make some of your kooky papers.

Thanks you so much; really glad you are enjoying some videos! Aww sorry to hear about your eyes, but you are right, that's not going to stop us from crafting! Funny thing is, I can still thread my sewing machine first time every time lol. I can't see the hole in the needle, but I think I've threaded it so many times over the years that I just know exactly where to position my hand and the thread lol. 😄💚🩵

Hehe that naughty scrap fairy is just leaving new scraps on my desk now instead of in the tray! She is very tenacious and clearly loves her job lol. I'm trying hard to keep up with her! 😄🩷

Try sewing them with white or peach coloured thread. Makes a massive difference 😊 I love this project.

Ohhh I might try that! Great idea! I always use dark brown thread. I have alot of different coloured thread but never use it because I am always so fond of dark brown lol. When I get some time In going to make some with painty paper and different coloured threads too! 😄💛🧡

Thanks Kirsten! Actually, it's a good "do it as you go" project. When you fussy cut etc, just glue the scraps down on a page as you go, instead of piling them up and gluing all of them down in one hit. I've been doing that with the hearts that you got me addicted to lol Each day I just glue those little scraps I made throughout the day so they don't start piling up again lol 😄💚

I wrap the strip under my mat and pull out about 12 inches at a time to continue putting the tape on. Also, I hold the roll of tape in my right with my fingers through the hole and my thumb on the other (almost like I was putting it on like a bracelet). That gives me better control over where it goes. Yes, that stuff has a mind of its own!! Your final product looks awesome!

Thank you Caroline! I really love how it turned out! My friend gave me a little tub of double sided tape so I am trying to use it up but not really sure how lol. To be honest, I much prefer to just glue things down. I find it easier than mucking around with the tape lol. But since we have it, we may as well get it used up! 😄💚

May I ask what you use it for? I know cardmakers use it, but I have no idea what to do with it lol. A friend gave me a little tub of it so I'd like to use it up if I can 😆

@@BonnyAndClive Hey Bonny, yeah I use it for putting covers on journals (around the edges and maybe one strip in the middle depending on size before folding to the inside) when I don't want to risk crinkle effects from glue, and also on backs of photos - I took a bunch out of those plastic page old albums that discolour photos, and put them in more modern albums.

I love making strips like this! Yours turned out great. I know that everyone has their own way of doing it...... Here's mine 😂... When it's still in one sheet, place the double sided tape down on the back and cut it into strips using the tape as a guide. Store wrapped around an empty cupboard roll. Thanks for sharing your video! 🥰👏🏻☺️

Thanks Lu! I'm not a fan of the double sided tape to be honest I just wanted to use it up because a friend gave me a tub of it lol. I much prefer to just glue everything down lol. I have another method making the faux washi that I'll show in my next video. I really love the look of it. It will be great for journaks and also adding to happy mails aswell! 🙂💚

Oh Liz those scraps build up sooo fast lol. I have a little pile of 'new' scraps starting to build up on my desk that I need to get rid of today lol I'm not a fan of the double sided tape to be honest. It's too fiddly for me and I'd just rather glue it down lol. 😄💜

I think a lot of beginners use the tape. I used it all the time before I got ATG and a good wet glue. Most of the wet glue in the US curls paper and doesn’t always dry clear. 💙😁

I only wanted to use it up because a friend gave it to me and I didn't want to waste it lol. Love how the faux washi came out though. I made another bunch of the strips last night and I it just looks so fab! 😄💚

I don't use napkins much either, but I really should because I have a pile of them that have been sent in happy mails etc over the years. I make the odd tags here and there but don't really have many videos using them. I think it would have been better to just stick the double sided tape to the individual strips after you cut them and just use it as strips rather than join it all up to a big roll.

My original plan was to make a big long roll of tape in a box that I could pull out to length and cut as I go lol. A bit like the ruffle box I made a few years ago. I still may do that later lol. But for now I have some tape and some strips. 😄💚

Lady why don’t you glue on mall your scraps to computer paper the put stitch it if necessary then put the strips on the back next to each other n cut that will make it quicker all way round

I cut it first because I wanted it sewn in one long strip, not separate strips. But that's a great idea for the ones that are left in strips! Thanks for the suggestion! 🙂💚
