Your comments on mulching the stumps and limbs made me laugh out loud. The capital that goes into those machines is insane, let alone the cost to transfer it to a biofuel facility. You would have to be moving 100s of thousands of tons a year just to recover your investment, let alone make a profit.
I’m so glad for your daily videos over the years. Way better entertainment than the news of the world and what’s on TV. You keep doing what your doing.
I LOVE your comment about others doing research. If I can do it as a retired dumb farmer, anyone can!! People just gotta say sh*t to look smart in their own minds. If they were educated about the subject they wouldn’t say much, or actually be positive about what you do Chris!! They complain, but don’t miss a bloody video!! 😂😂. There’s just something about ya Chris!! Everybody loves ya!! 😊 It’s hard to overlook them and I don’t even do the same work! I’m retired, but still raising a bit of hay for local horse and animal charities. It’s a void time, I can still play in the tractors and feel productive!! Haha. It’s up to them to arrange a safe hauler mind you. There’s a few guys that do it for fuel costs. I think that’s more than fair!! Take care Chris! I like the burning videos. I know why you do it, convenience and $$$ wise. Agree totally with it!! Fun to watch too!! (Something tells me you are having fun chasing the stacks as well, almost as fun as running the D6 on a nice 72 degree day!😊😊).
More Burning to do - Stumps are getting the Extra Care - ha-ha ! Rake the Area - looks sooooo much Cleaner ! Loading the Rest of the Logs ! Burn Pile are burning down very nicely indeed ! Great Video and many Cheers from Australia !!!!
The people that ask why you don’t make mulch out of this are the same people that say you should use a concrete pump when dredging a pond lol progress is looking great Chris!
I have enough Polish in my ancestry and they made me run the head on the head on the concrete pump all the time because I was good at it. I could be in trouble if your suggestion takes hold.
We have a company here that makes mulch. They don't use trees directly, they use wood pallets that would end up in the landfill . Right now with spring here ,they have mountains of different colors ready to go. There's a sawyer that burns his scrap or logs that he didn't get to in time. People complain to him that he should be selling it for firewood. He said he can't even give it away ,forget selling it . He has had people say they will come and get it but never do.
Chris, I sure enjoy watching you work. I think a guy wanting to get into that kind of work could learn a lot from you. I have a small cow operation the one thing I lack is the nice equipment to do work around the place. I am to old to get into buying tractors so do a lot with what I have. Don't let the idiois get you down.
Hey Chris !! Good that you have the space to burn as down here in SC .. the houses are going up so fast that the land contractors have to use those large wood mulchers to do the clearing & have to haul the mulch away !! Think they call that ""URBAN SPRAWL "" !!! Anyhows,, you'll make it pretty again with the pond done !!!! 🙃😉👍👍👍👍👍
I recently completed a very large pond extension, somthing i've never taken on before, came here for some ideas (pretty much binge watched the pond jobs) picked up a lot of great info to put into practice, even on my day to day jobs. Now officially glued to your channel, thanks for the great content Chris.
Chris, I'm envious. We bought a quarter section tn SW Oklahoma and it has quite a few shelter belt trees that are at the end of their lifespan. We've been waiting two years for a good rain to burn. I hear that when Noah had his flood we got a quarter inch.
Well just wait a while and a tornado will shred them for you, or a wild fire will burn them up, all it takes is one discarded cigarette butt and no problem land cleared and the eastern red cedars become a blow torch.
I’m from Woodward where about’s in SW Oklahoma do you call home We had 2.5 inches last week it’s a little late for the wheat, but can’t complain. It’s better than nothing we’ve had plenty of that.
Well done Chris. It is so therapeutic to see the soil raked and have all the ruts filled in and completely tranformed the project. Lucky you got that done before the snap thunderstorm mushed everything up again!
Over many years I have had to both operate & assess people operating 360's on large projects that i have Project managed , especially where digging in close proximity of live underground high voltage cables before putting them to work. I have watched all your videos and take great joy and find very therapeutic from watching an operator who knows what he is doing, keep up the good work.
It's mind boggling how much time it takes to do all the work you do. Especially when you do it correctly. That's how you get so much done. Do it right the first time.
I see this as the Letsdig18 show , Chris does all the work , pays the bills and provides entertainment . I don't run equipment on the regular , I have rented and run a miniex and skidsteer I used what I learned here to help me along .
Smoking stumps this is another great burn job - rain on the way too. That nasty storm set up for the next all burn pile burning - a little bit of a bonus really.
What’s a pond project without burning brush, icing on the cake was the inch of rain, gotta love it. Nothing like a plan in place to keep things rolling along. Thanks for the update sir.
I just have to say, how wonderful it is to see working people who get up and work, unlike all the paper-turners we have in society. good luck Chris in your business venture. Greetings Sweden.
Yesterday I found the project file videos on your channel AWESOME I CAN WATCH A PROJECT ALL THE WAY THOROUGH HOURS OF YOUR VIDEOS WITHOUT STOPPING THANK YOU CHRIS EVERYONE SHOULD CHECK THIS OUT 😊
That's insane... me and my mum are fans, and we just commented "i dont know why he doesn't mulch that stuff" and just as we stopped talking about it you replied why you don't... spooky!
Have you considered having forward swept wings added to your rakes to help keep pieces from rolling off the ends? Seems like it might help production. You are quite the craftsman.
In Wisconsin they planted many pine plantations and don't follow up by thining so these pines can grow like they could. It's a good thing Wisconsin has paper mills.
Yea but your wrong and that's why we have federal policies about burning random trash that likely contains small amounts of haz waste that when burned get into the atmosphere....archive.epa.gov/epawaste/nonhaz/municipal/web/html/index-3.html
The people who think that mulching is an idea have never done anything. Don’t pay any attention to what they say. You’re making a good living out of this contracting business, you have learned what works & what doesn’t. Thank you for the video
Cannot believe it is so dusty with all the standing water in the area. "You won't never have to see it again." You are so correct Chris. I would not buy muddy mulch of no telling what mixture. Sticker bushes, dead trees, just like you said yucky stuff. Chris I think it is time to go home and get out of that storms path. Stay safe.
Chris You come on this Workplace with the to know, it is the Perfect Day more Piles to set on Fire. You have always all burning Piles in the Eye and go not a Risk an.! And this is to see by all what You make. To this Engagement must I You to Congratulate. Thanks for this interesting Video 👍👌
Oh, but Chris!! Think about all that beautiful mulch you would have! 😁 It would go so well with all the top soil you would have if you used a vac truck when cleaning out dam's! 🤣🤣🤣 Sorry Chris 😂😂
Great work Chris, gonna be a sweet pond surrounded by wheat, gonna lay in there nice, thanks for sharing an I look forward to seeing the next video 💪🇺🇲🤙✊👌🌲
Just up very early morning here in UK 🇬🇧 South east England 🇬🇧 stormy here yesterday evening ... ANY Way great watching again Chris getting burn 🔥 pile out the way 👍
I can't imagine how long it would take to pile up those stumps to burn them like the farmers did many years ago all by hand.......Those big shovels and other power vehicles make it look so dam easy...........Good luck to you when you finish that task.......
Ok, i can't read the room lol. My question is about setting those plies of stumps and sticks etc, into the woods and letting it decompose. Burning wood like that is a lot of CO2 in the air 🫢
Hi Chris I totally understand why you won't make mulch from the brush you have left over, I have a friend hear in the UK that makes mulch in a small way but only because he's payed to cut the trees down Witch he chops up for fire wood and the mulch is pocket money for him and he uses most of the mulch for beding for his cattle, and it's not much good for anything else than let cattle cover it in poo and wee then he spreads on his land for fertiliser for the gress to feed the cattle and for winter feed as hay.
@@Southalabamaoutdoors Farmer P. is a You-Tube channel I watch. Everything you said about your friend is just what he does. Just made me think of him is all. And he is in the UK.
I have a couple of friends who do the chipping and they only just about to make any profit. They say if it wasn't for the Ash die back or large national infrastructure projects that are happening here in the UK they wouldn't of bothered. So they can name there price on the work
I was hopefully I'd see an episode of Chris burning those piles in my feed as I was getting my dinner ready. It's some nice entertainment to munch while watching. I can't understand why people can't pay attention to Chris's past discussions on why he doesn't mulch what he burns. It's not something he does as the core of his business and to do so costs a heck of a lotta cash outlay. Ya gotta have consistant supply of material to be in that business. Most of those who are in that business are producing mulch mixed with soil into top soil.
The way most of the grinder companies make money is the areas that have band burning. Then, the grinding companies can charge out the ass to come in and grind the wood up, then sell the chips, and a lot of time they run the chips through a screen and have screened topsoil to sell. I worked for a site developer, and they had to hire someone to come in and grind all the stumps and tops. Took a couple of weeks of grinding for a 15-acre site.
I do love your Videos Chris! For myself I try and learn from what you are doing. Learning to Rake 101. For about 20Ft lower Rake to blade Depth then Stop backup and raise Rake 2" or so and go another 10- 15 Ft. Brilliant!! Rinse and repeat!!! It is almost like a Ruckus Rake. You know the one that was kinda broken? Best of luck welding it...BTW. For myself I would use a heavier gauged metal with the same ID for the Pin. I didn't see any old Rust on the break....so I am wondering IF there needs to be a Grease Fitting on the pin. Corrosion is your worse enemy...as you know.
Chris where my cousin lives it is forbidden to burn tree tops, brush and stumps. The loggers chip all that is not is not useable logs for pulp or lumber, as required by law of the state. She had the wind blow down a tree on her farm, and the saleable log went to the mill, and the brush was collected by the city and chipped and used for fuel to fire the boiler for the school. If you do have to burn you have to buy a permit and you can only burn after 5:00 PM, and day time burning is not allowed. The chips from the logger is used to power the power plant to generate electricity, and the carbon is scrubbed from the Flue gasses, and sequestered. While her home has a fireplace, she has to buy a yearly permit and there are requirements her fireplaces has to meet. From what she was telling me, a senator from her state is pushing the EPA to ban all open burning of brush, tree tops and stumps, and unusable timber, and mandate it must be burnt in a closed system to capture the carbon out of the flue gasses. If this happens it will change the way you clear land and dispose of the rubbish.
Maybe you could make z reference work titled "Why I don't mulch, use a concrere pump for mud, use a suck truck, have a conveyor belt, have a drag line and all the rest of the repetitive questions. Chris and his uncle and grandfather have been doing this stuff for years and if there was a way to make a dollar they will be al, ovrr it. Chris said years ago thay they own all their equiptment outright so I think they have it figured out.
Free cost saving advice: Save your used home cooking oils and use that instead of Diesel. Add about 5% Gasoline and you'll have the equivalent of "Charcoal Starting Fluid". Great job and video as always.
There's a good degree of precision in how you judge and use the weather in your profession. Mulch is always a combination of browns and greens. A good long compact row of the sort of stuff you have to rake through, placed at the side of the field, will turn to a super fine soil in a couple of years. Question is, will folk wait that long to see their project complete or is another mindset possible.
@@kenore4003 Is rain not likely in North Carolina? where you are speaks of another solution that keeps carbon locked up. The answer lies in the willingness to attempt a solution without the loss of profit for the contractor.
Man, you ain't lying !! That storm looked like it could spin one up any minute there !! lololol... Have you noticed that these storms anymore, seem to drop 2-3 inches of freaking rain in no time !! Seems like we really don't get those good soaker rains anymore, just blow-up !! Bam !!, 2-3 in. of rain.... jsmh !! I don't think I've seen any of your jobsites hold water like this one has, most of the time, you cut a ditch like you done here on this one and seems to get rid of a lot of the water, not this one, that place must have some pretty good springs out across there ?? Did you see that nice ass work truck down the hill there, when you was loading those logs ?? lolololol... Man, that's a good looking truck Chris, I love the color of that one !! Well, hopefully you got the rest of those piles gone so, you can get going on the digging !! Great as always Chris !! Have a Great Evening, And, On too the Next !!!
I can understand not mulching the brush, but what I don't understand is not having a firewood company come in to salvage any larger wood. Are there firewood companies in your area? Do people even have fireplaces in your area? Thanks for the videos. Jon
That is a big change from the mud area where Komatsu got stuck to you pushing dust roots. Chris says there is no profit in wood chips - big fires please him more.
so did the farmer tell you that these are fallow crops? ... and if you accidentally burn the rye - no worries, they'll just plough the ashes in for their regenerative properties?
Chirs I have question when you do clean up trees branches ect if you Can is it good idea to just bury them if possible or burn Here's why I ask if you bury them deep in mostly clay soil wouldn't it build the soil or just lay there I know no way in world you can mulich them cost way to much I know burning is great for soil so that's why I ask if anyone should know you should
Chris, how you liking the pilot controls on the new 220 compared to the older 220. Can you feel the electrical delay? I like it for an electric controlled machine. They did a 😂good with it as expected.
