I just saw your videos for the first time today. I watched your balsa wood series form 2012 and then this one. Wow, production value and tools have changed a lot. There is a humor feel to your voice over. Good stuff!
Paul what can I say…. just magic!!! We left ourselves saying something about my preference for your wood lures work. But I have to admit that even with other materials your projects are precise and fantastic as well
Yep i am always thinking about making wooden lures when i am using plastic and when carving wood i come up with ideas for plastic lures. But this is a lure i could of made from wood as easily, i think the main thing that drew me to this plastic was colour and trying to 'reduce to max' the time on the finish but end up with something i am happy with. Thanks
I've had other BPM baits ru-vid.comUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 before and they've pretty much always came through for me with the suskie smallies here and even with the walleye and pike, but I realized I didn't have an "in-between" pattern so this junebug one fills that role in no problem. it pairs up magnificently with a junebug Zoom Z-craw Jr that was trimmed a couple millimeters before the hook slots and rigged sideways for that fatter panfish side profile while still being a nice'n'compact presentation, a real power-finesse bait. Hell, it was so pretty I even bothered to fotosketch the pic into a watercolor painting image just to show you it's beauty! Even the blades are really well made, sure, they're not of Hildebrandt-level exquisiteness but look at the bead's reflection on the colorado blade, definitely well-made! The only "problem" spot it had was a bald spot in the skirt but it was nothing that I couldn't easily fix with a but of tuggin'n'shiftin' with the strands for a couple of seconds, besides that it is pretty minty!
If only i could sneak some bass into the local lake, I really wanted to make this lure because and try it on pike because it is almost the total opposite of what a pike lure should be; it does almost nothing and the hardest part when using it is to resist the urge to jerk it along, but i caught a pike tonight with it by just doing a very slow steady retrieve and i caught a brown trout in the same way so i am almost convinced. Thanks
I tuoi video sono veramente unici sia per qualità che per contenuti. Non è facile trovare chi condivide e mette così a disposizione di tutti la sua esperienza. Sei un grande maestro!!!!
Paul. I just want to thank you for sharing your excellent ideas with the rest of us all around the world. I have got an another new hobby thanks to you. :)
I must say, you are a genius. I've been binge watching your videos and I absolutely can not wait to try making some lures of my own. Thank you for the tutorials and the motivation to try and make my own!
I just got into custom crafted fishing floats and will eventually merge into lures as well. Great videography and nice work! You just earned yourself another sub. Tight lines!
This is a very good looking lure. I think it is a little more difficult to craft than when done in your capable hands. I was intrigued watching the video and the steps leading to the finished product.
When i made the original of this i just carved it by hand and sanded by hand, but I like to experiment with different ways of getting to the same place, some methods are a little over the top but like everyone else i am learning and i learn best through doing, cheers
Very cool work my friend. I have amade a few in my day but nothing as nice as that. Thanks so much for posting a very good project video. All the best to you and yours
With how much work and the quality of the videos on this channel you should easily have way more subscribers than you do now, keep up the amazing work man much respect I would never have the patience for something like this it is amazing
I remember being taught how to make that pattern on tool steel in the lathe many years ago, i think at the time i was making a center punch, funny how things stay with you. Thanks
Once again you deliver another wonderfully made video. Each time the quality and effort pay off extremely well. We(your subscribers) just can't enough~understandably you make then when you have the time and we are quite happy with that. When we see the end result to often we ask ..did he buy that or really just make it. Thanks again for a great tutorial.
Mark E. Thanks, sometimes i wish i had bought them, but tonight i as a reward for finishing the vid i nipped for an hour down to the local lake without any cameras just to fish and caught my first pike with this little bait, the fish wasn't big but i didn't care. So far i have had a brown trout and pike. Thanks again
***** I've edited my fair share of videos and while I'm far from being good at it I know where I'm aiming at and you're there Paul, there and beyond. The production quality of your videos is superb, as good as anything we'll see on tv and eminently more enjoyable. For me personally, knowing that these clips are made by a single passionate individual adds a ton more 'worth' to them too. Impressive indeed.
I'd like to see a top water lure made that can make the wake of a jitterbug, swim with the realism of a rubber minnow, and be as weed less as can be like a hollow body frog. There are some crazy top water lures out there though. The one I'm really wanting to try is the Jackall Pompadour.
+creekandseminole That actually wouldn't be too difficult, just use a hollow body frog design with the wings of a jitterbug, except instead of two skirts as legs you could have one right in the middle like its a tail.
Paul, my question is: is there anything that you cannot do? I enjoy watching you create these works of art. I just wish I could do it as well. Keep up the great videos Gene Grissom Frost, Texas
Gene Grissom Yes i have close family members that regularly remind of the things i am unable to do, i now i must face my next challenge getting my laundry to the washroom. Thanks
Another cracking video Paul. The photography and general all round video quality is amazing, as is all of your work. If I had your skills I'd never find time to make any lures. My missus has 1001 DIY jobs she'd have me doing. I'd love to know what your day job is. :)
Sadly making the videos takes up so much free time that i don't get that much time to make lures either. Thanks, for a day job i make giant dog puppets and other bizarre stuff for people.
***** Dog puppets eh? Fantastic!.Well I might have guessed it would be something artistic requiring loads of natural in built skill. Keep the vids coming mate, your work inspires me.
Hi Paul as always love your work, just a quick request , will you be putting up the pattern for this lure at all, you have done so for some of the lures in the past and cutting out the foil for the sides would be much easier with a pattern. Thank you
sorry i forgot to post the link in the description homeluremaking.blogspot.co.uk/2014/10/making-spybait-fishing-lure-from-pvc.html if you have a problem acessing this send and e-mail to paulpadam@aol.com and i will send it by e-mail thanks and good luck, let me know how you get on
got time for a challenge?. try to make a lure with only handheld tools. kinda want to se how that turns out. im not saying you cant do it but givr it a try.
I'm looking for a way to strengthen the durability of crankbaits. Some people use clear nail polish on the outside of their crankbaits to stop the paint from chipping, but i was wondering if there was something similar that i could use to stop plastic hardbaits from cracking easily.
First of all, I really like your tool ideas and your videos. But a wire construction would be way more filigree and beautiful. Also i´d doubt if that material can hold up to a bigger pike.
This material is far tougher than wood and hold screws much better plus it doesn't rot. after all wallplugs are made from plastic . If you look at a commercially made prop baits the screw eyes are a lot shorter and the material is seldom solid. I have already caught pike on this lure, and other lures made from the same material. I tend to test the hell out of things before i make videos, if i didn't i could churn out a video every few days. Th\anks
as usual, outstanding work, I so love your builds! was wondering, with your skill on the lathe, have you ever designed/built rod handles as well? I can imagine different wood species, as well as colorful cording, even leather being incorporated? thank you!
Michigan Mister No, I have repaired rods but never built one from scratch, but i am planning to do a video about my attempt to make my perfect lure rod early next year. I have arranged to do some filming at a company that makes really beautiful rod blanks and finished rods, so i will be buying a blank from them and getting some expert advice on building it for a series or vids. Lathe and plastic wise i still have some projects to do in this series and maybe try some different stuff. Thanks
def looking forward, and have advised friends to check your work, been watching for a few months now, I think a creative rod handle is in your future! I do graphic art, and I can see you are capable. best of luck, sir.
