Making Hopper Wings - Awesome technique!

I stumbled across this technique from a website article on tying different hoppers. One of the hoppers used this wing, and I had not seen this technique before so I figured I would give it a try and really liked it. Here is the link to that article. I did not tie the whole grasshopper exactly like his thought, I took some aspects of other hoppers I really like. But utilized that wing he made, which is amazing. I did change up the wing slightly though. Just for what I think looks more like a hopper, maybe it's more stonefly look, but either way you make these, they look great! hopperfishing.wordpress.com/2...
I have not perfected this yet, and im sure there are many different ways of doing this. I can already see stonefly wings, dragonfly wings and even caddis or mayfly wings tied this way. Just select different feathers and colors and you can have some great looking wings of different styles. Let me know if you have seen this technique before and what you think of it.
Check out my other RU-vid channel where I do gardening and raise chickens with my kids. Those videos are a bit easier to make so I put out about 1 video per day. So if you want more content from me, and enjoy gardening and raising chickens, then check out that other channel. It's called escaping the daily grind, you can check it out here - / @escapingthedailygrind

I've been doing this a long time with dubbing in the middle of the tape. Clear tape also takes a highlighter pretty well too, so with both you can come up with some pretty unique patterns. The feather is top notch though!

@McFlyAngler 11 месяцев назад
Oh one sheet of tape? Will it keep its stickiness that way? Interesting. I figured you could do other wings similar. Thanks for sharing. I hadn’t seen this technique before so, I was really excited when I saw someone do it.

Cool! I might try this technique to make fins and tails for large glidebaits...it's cheap to try! Also, packing tape comes in different thickness, so you could experiment if you want something more dense...thanks for sharing!

Honestly I’m not sure really. I gotta go fish it. Haven’t yet. I am almost at the point of recovery with my surgery that I can fish again and I’ll be testing it out for sure

I use Aleene's Fabric Fusion or Fletch-Tite Platinum (feather glue for fletching in archery). Just put a drop on and then use thumb and pointer finger to spread the glue. Holds the feather very well and still looks natural. Give it a shot, I think you'll like the outcome better than tape.
