They're really tasty fried in butter and garlic, the faint taste of ink afterwards is actually surprisingly nice.

By the way I made a nice ink using "oak apples" from small oak trees that struggle against the wind on my local moorlands. They produce a nice black/brown ink 🥸🥸

Thank you for sharing. I love the idea of making inks from various natural sources. I am wondering if it is an Australian accent I am hearing and if some Australian plant/fruit based inks could be explored. Cheers Judy

Thanks Judy. It definitely is an Australian accent! I don’t currently live in Australia, but there are a few gum trees around where I do live (Ireland), so I plan to try some of those leaves at least.

Thank you for this video! I made my first batch of mushroom ink last year just for fun and saw that you can achieve wonderful textures and richness of colour. However, my ink quickly went bad, even though I boiled my mushrooms and used cloves oil as a preservative. Do you have any tips on how to prolong its life? Maybe I should use alcohol?

Lovely video thanks! Do you know how light fast this ink is?

Thanks for watching! I did some tests at the time where I left part of a drawing sitting in full light in the window, and I didn't notice any fading. As always though, take that with a grain of salt and do some tests of your own to be sure. :)

@@SpinesAndSplines thanks for your reply, your video has inspired me and I currently have a jar of disintegrating ink caps on my kitchen counter! Experiments coming up 😁

Best not to rip these out of the ground, use a knife to cut close to the ground. We want to to preserve the roots so they continue to spawn

It's a myth. The fungi spreads its spores through its hat, so you can rip it without worrying =) Many use a knife for its practical reasons (you have to remove dirt from it anyway when coming home + you can cut through it to determine the species.)

Some mushrooms can be (gently) pulled (some should be pulled for identification purposes, such as many of the mushrooms looking similar to those of the aminita family), others are better off cut (for example the cauliflower mushroom), it really depends on the mushroom, where it is growing, the mushrooms rarity etc. With these shaggy mane it probably doesn't matter a tonne, but cutting couldn't hurt and is less likely to introduce dirt into your mushroom basket.@@illustratornamedkasper

That's a myth, a mushroom is the fruiting body of the mycelium underground, it doesn't harm the mycelium if you just pick the mushroom instead of cutting it at the base.
