Making it through hard times and overcoming adversity defines who we are. I had a frustrating experience while working in the shop today and was ready to throw down my tools and quit. After regrouping, I realized there was some advice in that experience that almost everyone can use.
Note:
-We do not offer farm tours or accept visitors
-We do not sell from the farm
-We do not ship our farm's products
-We do not sell live animals

Actually if you mess up even in a video, it is still more useful then people who do mess up but edit it out. Bad day's are just things that come and go. Don't blame yourself Pete, sometimes we tend to hurry up cause everything aligns and then mistakes are made at the same time. At least your admitting it so you got my respect.

I absolutely agree Steve. Messing up and then correcting things makes for a better story and a more interesting video too; it shows that we're all human. But my experience with the "mechanical video" culture on RU-vid is that people can get pretty demeaning to you if you don't do everything perfectly the first time. So while I show farming and other life mistakes all the time in videos, I am hesitant to do the same when making mechanical videos.

@@JustaFewAcresFarm good thing you don't do horse videos, that bunch is even worse than the mech bunch. I think you do great, keep up the great work. When it comes to mechanic videos it seems everyone is an expert. It can be as simple as changing oil. It can get crazy and overly technical for some.

@@JustaFewAcresFarm Come on, Pete, hopefully you can tell the difference between open comments and questions and people who just want to snipe. I'm lost on this piece of work of yours, did I miss something. Was the gear piece or bushing a replacement? If it was just reinstalled, how could they be tight? The distributor, how was it run whilst it was on, were the plug leads just put on in a reverse order, but it then retarded instead of advanced when speed increased? Any idea how they managed to get the distributor to work? Lots of questions, but all meant openly.

Hey Pete, I’m not a mechanical video watcher. I just don’t have the know how as a base to follow them. I think it would be a great video to show mistakes and how they are corrected. That’s life. I watch woodworking videos. I love the mistakes they make because it’s how they correct them that makes the video interesting!Pete, rework this video with the mechanical one you already shot and show how you came to the conclusion. Show your work and thinking. It would make a great video and it is line with what you talked about here. You make great videos and I appreciate them and you. All the best.

I want to encourage you Pete. We experienced alot of flooding this year. We have a creek that crosses our little farm. And we have a ford site. I have in times past when it flooded drove my tractor across the ford. My legs would get wet but that was it. This time it was a little deeper than normal but not much. I drove across and the tractor died in the middle of the ford. I sucked up some water into the engine. I bent two connecting rods visibly one I two directions. Watching you this past winter with your MD made me think if Pete can do it so can I. I made mistakes and it took me a long time to do, but I did it. I have had experience with rebuilding single cylinder engines like lawnmower engines but never a multi cylinder engine. What you do here really does good I think that you need to hear this. So thanks.

I am by no means a “Gearhead” but what I like and enjoy about your approach to engine and machine repair is your process of analysis and problem solving. If something didn’t go as expected, the process of analysis and problem solving starts over again. I learn in the process. The ability to design a part or use another part to fix the problem, that’s gold. I look forward to your winter farm interlude.

I know exactly how you feel Pete. 9 zurons ago on my trip through the Andromeda Galaxy my spacecraft broke down on the planet Melmac. I couldn't get the nuclear core to split atoms in sequence resulting in the anti-gravity electromagnetic modular imploding. ALF's supply store didn't have the part on hand so I had to wait an Electroweak Epoch for the part to come in. I was so upset I felt like enslaving the Melmacians but after calming down I realized I was just having a bad zuron. I finally got the core to operate and proceeded on my journey. Enjoy your video's Pete. Thanks 👽

You probably know where I am going with this story as the brake seal cage fits around the bull gear. Busted it. I lost a nights sleep and thought I had ruined my tractor. Thank goodness for YT. Two days later I was feeling better and had the axle pulled and the bull gear dropped down. Bates Corp. A neighbor came over and helped me slide the axle back in. Your story really hit home. Hey Pete, I've always prescribed to the old adage "You learn more from your mistakes than from your successes." and "If you're responsible, own it." Good on you for not only taking us along through your successes but your failures as well. There are always going to be those on the Internet who make themselves feel better by either putting down others or feeling they know more than others. I love your mechanical videos. While not a keen area of interest for me, I'm sure you have forgotten more about the subject than I know, I still find them interesting and commend you not only on self learning it but also doing so on old equipment. No harm, no fowl Pete. These things happen. They are great learning experiences. It’s how we deal with adversity is the key. Great video as always.

I'm reminded of an old saying. "It's not the events of our lives, but it's the story we tell ourselves about these events that causes good or bad memories"

Sorry you have a cold and feeling under the weather, I hope you're better soon. Oh, the mistakes I've made throughout my life, but I was able to pick up the pieces and go on. I never had many people to give me good advice, but somehow I figured some of them out on my own and was able to move on. I like your advice and the way you think about life. I guess we're old school, those were the good ole days.

I rarely comment on RU-vid videos, but I’ve been subscribed to your channel for about a year now and I really enjoy your videos, especially your mechanical videos because of the way you explain how things work in great detail. I just bought a 1965 Farmall 504 as my first tractor and so I’ve really been looking forward to your mechanical videos as you work on your own 504. As a young person who hopes to start a farm someday, you’re a big inspiration to me, Pete. Keep your head up high.

Experience. Hope you feel better. The little pigs make me happy. I really love that little black one with the pink streak on his head/face. Such a cutie! Thanks for sharing you life with us. We all have bad days-we just need to learn from it. You’re our favorite farmer.

I almost sold my Farmall H! Your videos not only made me appreciate my tractor more, but have given me the confidence to do some repairs. I love my tractor! A piece of history l won't be parting with now.

Hi Pete, the crew is unanimous that you have already forgot more about tractor mechanics than some people ever learn! The fact that you talk often times with the animals as a backdrop is a wonderful thing, maybe intentional, maybe not, but it serves to keep them tuned in. This little band may never learn the difference between a differential and a drawbar, but it's YOU (and Mrs. Hil) that they have connected with, and that's far beyond mechanics. I would not dare go into the particulars in a public forum like this, but we are achieving little daily victories, especially with birds and cows and yes, tools, and y'all have a part in that for sure. We recently manned a farmers market booth at our record-breaking school scholarship fundraiser and they wanted to have a chicken with a blade of grass in its mouth looking at the sun on our price list. The greatest form of admiration is imitation.... Onward!

One more thing when gathering yourself is to get another viewpoint from a trusted source. I am guessing that Hilary listened to you when you went in for lunch. A supportive ear combined with a loving heart is invaluable to good reasoning.

Don't let the naysayers bring you down. You are an honest hard working man. By doing your own repairs on your farm equipment you will get to know everything about it.

Pete, people crap on me too about my mechanical skills. There’s always someone “smarter” than you who loves to badger you with derisive comments. You continue to inspire me to keep going. Thank You for that. Happy Thanksgiving from Maine.
