This is not the first and by far not the best video about making turnshoes, but friends had asked me to make a whole video of the progress. So there we go.
I used the following article for research:
Dr. A. T. Lucas: "Footwear in Ireland", in the Journal of the County Louth Archaeological Society (Vol. XIII, 1956, p. 367).

Good job! I commend you on not doing your video at an increased speed which made it much easier for me to watch. I am an older gentleman with severe visual impairment but am able to see fairly well with an electronic device that resembles a VR headset and I am just beginning to delve into the world of leathercrafting. 'The making of turnshoes fascinates me and I fully intend to learn to make them well but I am having problems finding patterns that I can afford. I like the shoes that you made in this video and am curious as to whether or not you might share your pattern with me. Thanks again for this video. Well done. Happy Holidays!

Thanks for commenting. I didn't really have a pattern, I got the A.T. Lucas article about shoe finds in Ireland which had sketches of the patterns in it and I worked from there. It took me a couple of attempts. There are a couple of tutorials on RU-vid on how to use duct tape and an old sock to get a pattern fitting your feet, you could try that. I just measured certain points of my foot and adapted that. The most important part is to make the heel high enough and to get the width at the bridge right (in my experience at least).

@@OSM4HistoryBuffs Thanks for your response. I muar have watched 50 youtube videos on turnshoes and everything else on shoes that I could find....I think that I must have hit the end of the internet. :-) Thanks for the heads up on A.I. Llucas....he is my next stop on my never ending quest. Again, thanks....be safe and enjoy your holidays.

@@OSM4HistoryBuffs There seems to be a lifetime's work by Dr. Lucas. Do you know the name of the specific paper or the article from which you worked?

@@maverick47 Dr. A. T. Lucas in the Journal of the County Louth Archaeological Society (Vol. XIII, 1956, p. 367). Mind you, that's only Irish shoes, you might find, say, Viking shoes easier to access. I think the title was something "Footwear" and "Ireland".
