"It has to be done by tomorrow" anyone else hear the anxiety in her voice? {this is seriously the most normal, mundane, non funny comment in the world, why does it have so many likes?}
I sewed clothes for my daughter and husband her entire life until she started to sew too. I got her a sewing machine for Christmas when she turn 19. She still uses it all the time and she’s 29 now. I loved making matching outfits for us until she was about 7. She still has a lot of the stuff I made. It so sweet
My mom made my homecoming dress as well. About 2 years later I made a quilt for the same boy I want to homecoming with, aka my boyfriend at the time. Some of the quilt squares were pieces of the fabric from my dress! It really is something to keepsake forever when it's handmade ❤❤
My mom made my prom dress my senior year as I was such a hard fit (size 6 waist, size DDD chest- god I miss being 16, lol!). Everyone was so jealous because no one else had the same dress. It rocked! She also made my graduation dress as we wore solid white floor length gowns at my school. I had the best fitting and comfiest dress there!
I too. Were built like you😊, my sweet momma did the same things, all my clofancy things were sooo comfortable cause it fit like skin.... we are truley Blessed ..love these kinds of stories i can really telate too
I'm proud to say my mom made my prom dress! This was back in the early 80s. I'm 6 ft tall & buying an off the rack dress wouldn't work & we couldn't afford tailor made, besides, my mom used to work in the theatre district in London making costumes before marrying my American Air Force dad, so this was easy peesy for her!
Worked in theatre costuming myself, but since I hate sewing I hired a costumer friend and MUCH better seamstress to make my wedding dress. Costumers for the win!!!
Great Job n Great memory. Im a grandma now but when I was little, Little House on the Prairie was favorite show. Me n my grandma used to watch it together every week and my grandma would make me dresses by hand always with a matching Bonnets. I wore them to school and the kids would make fun of me but i didnt care. I thought i was the coolest kid in town. My teachers always loved them too. Then one day the school did a western themed dress up day and guess who rocked that party! 🎉 me! LoL I still cherish those memories of my bonnet dresses. Wish i still had them. You did a Great Great Job Momma! I bet your girl rocked hers too. Good for you. 😊
I’m so excited for your daughter! I made my very first dress for my 2 yr old granddaughter. Tons of mistakes but I loved it and so did she! As I get better at it I’ll make a dress for myself.
You are quite the seamstress! And I love the weight thingys. I’ve never seen those before! What a time saver, and without pins they don’t get in the way!
Very cool mom!! Love that you’re doing this!! Be ready to make the wedding dress (or at least the bridesmaids) - so much talent!! Kudos to you!! Hope your daughter has a blast (to the present)!!
Just like my mom who made my most beautiful dress for a sweet 16 birthday party 56 years ago! No pocket but she made a matching purse. All the rich kids were so envious!!! Love you Mom!💖
My Mom sewed all my clothes - & my sisters’ - including my wedding gown. I still have it, as well as a few things with a custom label inside: ‘Hand made for my little girl’ ! When she passed @ 95yo this past year, very grateful to have so many special occasion dresses & outfits she made for herself from her closet. These are treasures❤️
My sweet momma sewed all my clothes, or rebuilt/altered everything i had, there were no options in my small townnin Texas, but shed get a collection of 17 magazine and cosmopalitson and southern living.we used to design things together, abd shed stay up all night to fix/ create her 1st mattern out of old sheets , table clothes ect.but i felt like a million bucks everytime i put it. EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. the pride , self confidence and love for me in her eyes and on her face. Your giving your daughte a memorie a gift of love everytime she remembers, Those hugs reach beyond the any distance or time.
I just skipped ahead to your daughter reaction (and by skipped ahead I mean I sought out the video LOL) and I started crying too! It’s so beautiful when we can make our children cry happy tears.
I made my daughter's prom dress. After looking at off the rack dresses and nothing fit her very curvy figure. We decided it would be easier to make it. She loved being able to pick out the fabrics of the corset top and skirt. It took me a couple of weeks but it turned out perfect.
This sounds like one of those school projects kids entirely forgot about until the night before the due date and told their parents and the parents end up doing the project. Thankfully she at least had a day
Wow! I am so impressed and proud of you. I made my sister’s wedding gown and I made my wedding gown but I followed a pattern. I haven’t the faintest idea of how to make my own pattern. That would be too much work. Absolutely amazing that you’re doing this. I’m so impressed.
