Thanks for watching bud! I’m glad you like my video. The part number for the wire keeper is WDB1000 and I buy mine from multiple sources. But I find that Barlows tackle . I liked your video. Plan and simple and to the point. I have a couple of questions. Where do u buy your hooks, bait holders , and lead from, and is there a certain grade lead you recommend as well? I’m going to start making my own. I lose way to many up here in TN where I live now . I lived on lake o for 32 years and I didn’t use a lot of jig heads like I do up here. Thanks for your time.
@ParabellumFishing
@ParabellumFishing 2 года назад
Thank you! I appreciate your feedback. I buy most of the components online. Sites like Barlowstackle.com and janns netcraft. Even tackle warehouse sometimes has a deal. Of course, the do-it molds website. Regarding the lead, I’m honestly not picky about it. In my experience the quality of the lead only fluctuates the weight a little and for me, it’s not noticeable. I’m sure plenty would disagree with me, but the fish don’t notice lol. I buy lead weights on clearance at Walmart sometimes and I bought a bunch of lead projectiles from a local gun show. I use those a lot. I hope this helps! I’m no pro at this but Im Happy to share what I’ve learned. Thank you for watching! 👊🏻

Thats cool. I look forward to seeing what you did. Where do you get the lead to make your jig heads?
@ParabellumFishing
@ParabellumFishing 2 года назад
@@Paul_T82 Yeah I’m hoping it works out. It’s not a huge change but better for rigging a plastic I think. My lead is mostly from bullet projectiles actually. My friend brought me 30 pounds or so of lead rounds in some obscure caliber he picked up at a yard sale for super cheap and I’ve been using them for months. But I also mix in lead from old cast nets and sometimes I buy large sinkers at Walmart when they are on clearance.

Great video! I am about ready to start casting some jig heads for the first time. I have had gread success with the egg sinker molds and hopefully my jig molds will be as successful. I have never powder painted before though. In every video I have seen so far, everyone uses a heat gun to heat the jigs to dip into the paint. My question is, why not preheat the jigs in the toaster oven instead? Then when you have paint on all of them, turn up the heat on the toaster oven and bake them for final hardening. Would that work? Seems like it would eliminate a little of the guess work required with using the heat gun?
@ParabellumFishing
@ParabellumFishing Год назад
Thanks man! Glad you liked it. I’m actually posting another video tomorrow where I make some EWG style Ned heads. I had that same thought about heating multiple jigs in the oven. I haven’t tried it yet tho. The issue I think I would have is keeping the lead hot enough to take an even coat of paint. It cools so quickly. But I need to try it out. I have to make a few hundred of the things for an upcoming event. That would sure speed up the process. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I really appreciate it 👊🏻 Good luck with your jigs! I’m sure if you’ve had success with the egg sinkers, your jigs will rock too!

I just bought a mold at an auction in Hillsdale, Mi last weekend. Thought it was a sinker mold but found out when I got home it was for jig heads. No problem, I'll still use it. It's the type that has a "keeper" built into the mold to keep the baits on. Do you have to order the hooks on line or would some place like Bass Pro Shop's have then on hand?
@ParabellumFishing
@ParabellumFishing 4 месяца назад
It depends on the style of hooks you need. Many of the 90 degree bend hooks are sold in stores like bass pro. I have even seen some of the eagle claw hooks I like at Walmart. But some of the more "specialty" jig hooks may not be available locally. I buy online just because of the quantity I keep stocked.

Hi dude great vid. Question… these moulds have a recommended hook size. Could you go up a size or 2 and still pour the jig head? The moulds I like the look of all recommend small hook sizes. Thanks
@ParabellumFishing
@ParabellumFishing 7 месяцев назад
Thanks man! Short answer is yes, you can use larger hooks than recommended in most cases. I have used larger hooks in the smaller cavities and so far, I just had some flashing around the hook eye. No big deal. Easy enough to clean up. So long as the mold closes, you should be ok. Once the shank diameter exceeds the space the mold has, the mold won't close and you'll get some bad pours. Hope that helps!
@fishingwithfrighty1615
@fishingwithfrighty1615 7 месяцев назад
@@ParabellumFishing thanks for the quick reply. That answers my question. I may just buy one and have the hook moulds slightly enlarged at a machine shop, probably cheaper than having a custom mold made. Cheers

@ParabellumFishing
@ParabellumFishing 4 месяца назад
I looked up the jig style and I dont think DO it makes anything that would be an exact match, but they may have something close? Otherwise, and this is something I have considered doing myself, buy a blank mold and it machined. The prices for custom machining are higher than I thought they'd be. But it may be worth looking into if that is something you really want. you could even tweak the specs to your needs. Sorry, I am sure you have already thought of that and im probably not much help, but I hope I helped a little.

I always get the powder in the hook eye any suggestions?
@ParabellumFishing
@ParabellumFishing 9 месяцев назад
Yeah that is nearly unavoidable. For me anyway. I have seen other people use a small piece of tubing over the eye but that seems real time consuming. I keep a spare hook with me while painting and just clear the paint out while its still hot. I also dont bake my personal use jig heads anymore. A little chipped paint doesn't bother me much. But when I do bake them, It really helps to bake them standing, rather than hanging. Keeps the paint from drooping too. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching bud! 👊🏻

Honestly I am not sure. I actually went out to the garage to check for myself and as it turns out, I dont have any 3/0 in that style. I tried fitting a 3/0 VMC 9147. With that test fit, I would say, maybe. It looked like there would probably be some flashing by the eye and IF you used the called for plastic keeper, it would run almost to the bend of the hook. I didn't pour it so I can not say for sure. But, I am hoping to pour some jigs this weekend and if I do, I'll try it out the VMC and get back to you.
