The video shows the whole production process from the wire to the finished coil.
I built this alternator for a 1,7m diameter windmill.
Some nice coil winding action. Interesting design facts. Coils fixed with instant glue.

I didn't have to watch the whole video to know this is the most simply brilliant coil winder of course from a young fellow, we need your minds your fresh creativity, thank you for sharing

these generators remind me of a model T generators and Henry used Flat copper ribbon for his coils which needed no extra space for a wire across the top and gave good amperage

Love this video. The work you do seems to be very well planned and executed, the video (which i don't expect from engineer-type people) is also very nice and fun to watch. Thank you! I'm just surprised you don't have more subscribers.

Dude that is a sweet looking coil winder gig. It has a very clean look to it. From what I read if you want over unity use high frequency pulsed DC voltage. That is what Tesla had discovered. Tesla considered AC power to be a failure.

Okay thank you. Beyond making a magneto I found something neat; to compress the negative pole inside the wire in a continuous loop. This must be done in sets of 3 sines or multiples of it, then reset. I have an idea for a pinecone shaped coil so using many of these inside a bowl shape will spin off the ultimate 'mass' peak of the positive pole; heavy ions/positrons as energy of both poles but neg in bias centers to top of inverted bowl. I'll have to draw this up in blender.

Here in the US, crazy glue or super glue, it will take the varnish off the wires and cause a short if they become jarred. I've seen people tape theirs but this looks bad and isn't heat resistant. I would almost recommend lacquer or the high temperature paint they use on BBQ grills to hold things together.

I wish you success. In lieu of instant glue, wrap thread to secure coils. Apply varnish, or wood sealer to the thread and let dry for a day. You can also use wood glue. Your instant glue has hazardous vapors and so does your cfc spray. I wish you lived in the USA I would send you materials for your project. Maybe somebody in your country could give you the supplies you need. good luck.

I use a 675watt soldering gun, but still have serious problems making that work. Is there a good solder for magnet wire? Best luck I've had actually is melting the aluminum itself with polypropylene and crimping 2 ends together. I've sanded ends after torching and tried soldering but don't like how I can't trust the connection.

@mikefromspace

I'm having trouble making a coil join ends with another coil and still be conductive. Burning , crimping , soldering, none seem to work. What is the trick? Also is there a term for variance of ferrous property in wire? I have some .023 that is not magnetic at all when I place a magnet on it and does nothing when I apply voltage. I'll have a new meter tomorrow to check this over, meanwhile ...?

@Allazander
@Allazander 11 лет назад
Any "glue" does exactly the same thing, it grips what it contacts, in this case the coating of the wire. To combat jarring you can do as he did in the video and make sure that you use enough glue so as to lock everything in place as a single unit. A small dab of glue might do as you suggest, although it's doubtful since the wire itself wants to maintain the bend. The best method is to use high temp casting epoxy to completely encapsulate the coils, but it's unnecessary. His method works fine.

why a double winding? More Efficiency? So you have 3 phases, 3 bifilar coil why each.
@mikefromspace
@mikefromspace 12 лет назад
oH that's why... I must get copper. Wish I'd never got aluminum. It takes 1.6x more of this stuff to do the same job, and I need to get the most out of my neodymium magnets. Hey, Tesla stated once that coating magnet wire with a metal+crystal material would increase it's potential many fold. Ever hear of any such wire being made?

I think you would like a crank arm just a bit shorter.
@grouprocox
@grouprocox 9 лет назад
You can improve your design be leaving less air gap in your coils, instead of making them into triangles it would be more efficient to make them into more of an elliptical shape. Since voltage and current are induced by a conductor cutting through magnetic lines of flux, if you are able to increase the amount of lines being cut with the same shaft rpm you will generate more power. Credit: electrician and studying electrical engineering. I apologize if you have already discovered this. Great jig by the way!

@rsskarthikeyanRtr
@rsskarthikeyanRtr 7 лет назад
have you follow any formula or relations ?
@grouprocox
@grouprocox 7 лет назад
karthi keyan no calculations, just principles of electromotive force. It takes 3 things to produce electricity, the size of the wire, the number of turns (how many times it's wrapped around) and speed of the cutting action across the magnetic lines of Flux. The more you increase of one or all of these will increase your voltage and current
@rsskarthikeyanRtr
@rsskarthikeyanRtr 7 лет назад
i hope it should have some ratio and amount of percentage which it increases relative to others.

Hi, the idea of triangular coils is that the coil legs are more precisely aligned with the magnets. It has all been well calculated in advance. I will write a post with all the details of this alternator, which was the first I've ever built. As far as I know, most voltage is generated when the magnet passes the wires in the coils in an 90° angle, so making the coil legs more or less radial seems obvious.That of course brings them to a triangular shape. Am I right? Maybe someone knows something I'm missing..
