In this video I show how I made some custom picture frames as Christmas gifts. The frames are made from walnut wood, reinforced with wooden splines - also in walnut. Over the course of the video I talk about my ideas when it comes to taking pictures, how picture frames should be designed, and a walk through the building of the actual frames. Some extra tips include how to use a spline jig, and how to fix small gaps in miters using sawdust and glue. Thank you for watching and enjoy!

I've been addicted to a bunch of Maker's RU-vid channels lately and have been getting the itch to seriously get into wood working. Like your channel a lot, the shooting style and humor both set you apart from a lot of the other channels I watch. I might take a similar path as you with starting with picture frames and mat board cutting since my workshop and tool arsenal are both pretty abysmal. But i gotta get started somewhere.

It's not a bad place to start. In general, I would suggest picking a project that you're passionate about, and then getting and learning what you need to accomplish that...and then take it from there.

Beautiful! Loved the frames, almost as much as I loved the images. As a Photographer by trade and a woodworker for pleasure, I love this finished product! Displaying photos has been lost these days. No digital image can compare to that of a printed, framed, and displayed image. Also, I loved the tone of the video…pairs perfectly with the content. Top notch!

A little FYI. When using darker woods like walnut or Mahogany use a dark wood glue (Titebond makes one available at Rockler). It will save having to perfectly clean up all yellow glue in tight spaces and on exposed joints the dark glue won't be noticeable.
