Making Profit with Painting Miniatures!! 

If I had the downtime, I would try and paint. Alas, my work keeps me very busy. It’s always a risky thing to mix your hobby with making money, but if you can enjoy it it is worth it.

@@ZombieSashimi For sure. It was a government job with mandated minimum staffing requirements so it was not uncommon to have periods of downtime on certain shifts. I have certainly never had a job like that before or after lol

That's why I love overnight shifts. I have plenty of time and have the run of the place to myself so I work on commissions all night

I love painting, too. I am still trying to learn and improve, and it is just recently that I felt my work was perhaps good enough to sell. I wish you all the best on your improvement in the hobby, and never stop enjoying it!

I used Windsor & Newton black oil paint and thinned it down with odourless petroleum. I don't think the contrast medium would work as that is made for acrylics and I don't know how it might affect the oil paint or the ability to remove it with the sponge.

It is sooooo hungry!

I have the difficulty of being in Japan where the demand is not there. I am also not a professional painter, so this is me dipping my toes. It is also not commission work. When I do rarely do commission work it does cost more. I am also not putting my all in with the paint jobs as well, so they are not worth as much. In Japan, selling on Mercari I am able to sell for a higher price than anyone else selling on the platform. If I ever move back to the UK, rest assured, where there is a bigger market, and as my skills improve, I want to sell for more. So, I feel what you are saying. Perhaps that can be a future video, I paint up an army and try to sell via eBay abroad, aim high and compare to the experience of selling in Japan and whether the crazy shipping prices hurt my overall profit or not! It will be interesting whether I succeed or fail. But thank you for your input and my intention was not to hurt professionals in the excellent work they do and the value of their painting.

@@ZombieSashimi I understand that, but you could have sold the minis for way more. The tiny army at least for 4x the price - I think.

@@Lothrean I shall take that as strong encouragement and it has given me an idea to do a follow up video in the future where I take into account time spent and try for more taking that into account. Ps. I would have loved to sell it for 4x more lol! Would have been over the moon. Thank you for your comment. It has given me food for thought.

@@Lothrean The fact that they sold in 5 minutes in a low demand market says it all really. Look if its some kid who now has a nice army to play with its fine, but if its just some trader who instantly relists the army for twice the price its a real bummer.
