Making Scroll Saw Portrait Patterns 

I couldn't help but smile when I saw your light box. I made one almost identical to it, even down to the lights lol! I wish I could send you a picture. You'd laugh it's so close, in fact I thought for a minute how'd he get my box lol! Works quite well by the way!

Hey there Kenny: I think that was amazing. I could see how everything came together as you cut out the dark areas. I've wondered for awhile how this process takes place. Great video! I’ve been looking for something that I can make on the scroll saw that’s somewhat different and more personalized. I think most everyone would like a picture of themselves or a loved one that’s cut into wood. Thanks for the video lesson in how to do it. I can’t wait to give it a try.

I prefer the drawing . It’s more unique and personal . But I’m no artist. I have done a few. Always changing a line here or there. But it sure beats a computer doing it for u. Great job.

I've had a Craftsman Scroll saw table for several years now and never really got into using it... yet.. When I was in the Air Force, up in Fairbanks, AK (Eielson AFB) they had a Skills Development Center where I got a part time job, running the store from after work at my day job until around 9pm each night. They had an engraver they used for engraving small brasse plates to mount on trophies and such. Then, talked my boss into getting a laser engraver. It even came with a rotary device where you could put a coffee muf or 20mm A10 Cannon shells in it and engrave whatever you wanted to on that. I even got to a point where I was working with the lady that did framing of artwork and I was able to use the laswer engraver to engrave things like sled dog footprints on the matting itself and not even cut through the matting.. The prints were usually sled dog prints for the Yukon Quest sled dog race from Fainrbanks to Nome, AK. I loved using that thing and combined with the rotart engraver (Which I still used for Trophy plates, I could pretty muc engrave anything I could get a graphic of. Cigar boxes were great for engraving as well. I sure miss working there and had a great team that worked with me but, as for all the trophies and plaques, I made every one of them for over 3 years before moving on to my next assignment. I could actually take a picture of you and engrave that right onto a wooden place or some matting and the laser would adjust the depth of the cuts based on the colors of the image. For now, I'll get into the scroll saw though. I've still got my eyes out for a decent table top engraver. With the rotary attachment. I could scan your image, put a coffee cup on the rotary attachment and engrave your picture on a coffee mug or pretty much anything else you wanted it on. The key thing to remember is that the laser will engrave wood and matting but, if you put a piece of metal (Like the canon shells, I'd try to tell them to leave the OF Green color on the shells but, they never did that and the shells were aluminimum (I think) and the laser wouldn't make a mark in them. Good times.. With todays technology, you can pick up a small 8.5x11 engraver and have a great tool for making quick signs at craft fairs and such. That image you have in your video could be laser engraved in about 5 minutes time..

I know this is quite late, just found your channel. Over 10 yrs with my dewalt scroll saw at this point. Anyways, my point is Amazon has led ultra thin light tablets that can run off of usb. Less then the price of wood nowadays, especially after ya add in the cost of lights.

The process was explained nicely BUT you didn’t show the final output on your wood. What you showed at the end was again a Black n White image. Can you you show the final wooden product.

After you took your picture with your phone transfer it to b&w might be easier...
