Making Shaker Doors in MDF

In this video I make a set of MDF Rail & Stile Shaker Doors to fit under a staircase in a 137 year old home.
The doors have Festool Domino joinery with a seperate glued panel fitted to a slot cut into the rails and stiles.
I will be painting these and doing the final install including the cabinetry in the next video, this one goes over the construction and test fit process.

LOL Great stuff Luis (is that pronounced Lewis our Louie?) - you get an immediate thumbs up from me for using MDF in a major project, the darn yanks always use (expensive and hard to get) plywood. I reckon the Shakers would have used MDF if they had had access to it! ;-) Yes those blasted rectangles - the only worse shape is a square where you have to get ALL 4 sides correct. Luis, since you are the only Sydney based woodworking channel I know of, it would be great if sometime in the future you could do a video on where you get your materials, tools, and accessories etc from, and maybe the trials and tribulations of a woodworker in NSW - LOL. Cheers mate I look forward to the video showing the finished product.

thank you. MDF is my go to if it's not structural and needs to be painted. I've also learnt from experience it's the one thing termites won't eat. I'll do that video with a partial shop tour soon. Being a woodworker in NSW really just means everything you work with has a Janka hardness of 8.5 and up or its pine. The real difficulty I'll address is being a cabinetmaker in Australia where you have access to 1/3 of available tech at 4x the price the rest of the world pay and the fact that nearly all my customer have "seen something on pinterest" which is usually always American with 18mm plywood construction and face frames that our methods don't lend to and the prices the US DIY'ERS state are so far off ours it's ridiculous

Well said, I keep trying to tell them all that but they don't believe it - I hardly believe it myself and I keep thinking one day I'll wake up and find it was all a bad dream. When you move from Sydney down the the Southern Highlands, as I have done, you find the situation is even worse... It helps to have a whinge occasionally ;-) I look forward to the shop tour. Cheers.

Being a cabinetmaker in Perth is hard also. Well not harder but everything costs more in WA plus awesome freight costs. Nice job.

Nip don't get it, anyway. MDF because it's not structural and it's painted. Nothing paints like MDF and nothing stays flat and straight like it either.
