Technically cottage pie, as it doesn't use lamb. Fantastic recipe. Will make sure this one is an addition to my meals when camping! My British husband will love it. ;)
Hi Troy Going on a 10 day trip in two weeks so I tried your shepards pie today for lunch. This is really good ...thanks for the recipe . I will be bagging some of this up for the trip.
In this video I'm using the Nalgene 500ml wide mouth container as my bowl. Last season though (2009) I picked up the X-Bowl and X-Cut by SeaToSummit. I've been quite smitten with them since both the cup and bowl can fit in both my 1L and 2L pots. So they work great and they're a real space saver.
Fantastic! When I join Ground Search and Rescue in the Civil Air Patrol I am SO making shepards pie the first night! But, um, how do you dehydrate the corn and hamburg?
@MaddyTheGoose if you check out something called, cave cooking. you should find a great little tin can cook set and how to make it. its all on youtube. anyway, personally i made everything i could need, save a plate and im working on that. but it shows how you can bake with like a few oz worth of gear.
Shepherd shmepherd. Yes! You are right! It is not the recipe for real shepherd's pie. But dang it looks good! Despite the inaccurate ingredients, the tips in the video are very welcome. Thank you for posting.
To be honest, baking isn't something I've really explored at camp. It's bringing the extra gear required that puts me off but I'd like to look into working with rocks and create a bit of an over. Something to try in the future.
these mixes often varied depending on what war around so now we have lotsas sweet corn so go for it. I have never been into purism with these things; It all often boils dpwn to what parents, relatives and older friends taught us, I likwe that u show now to do things without having a full kitchen at home.
Ty for for these videos, the food looks awesome, healthy, and way less expensive than store bought. I was wondering if you could just make the gravy with your meat ?
+Joe Jon Thank Joe, glad you're enjoying the videos. Good thought with making gravy from the meat but in this case it wouldn't really work too well since the fat has been removed so the water you're left with after rehydrating isn't very flavourful. Although using the water from the rehydrating in the packages gravy made add a little extra flavour. I sometimes add that water to rehydrate the potatoes from flavour.
Shepherds (not shepards) herd sheep, hence the name. Shepherds herd sheep not cattle. If you use a very similar recipe to shepherd's pie using beef, you will have a "cottage pie". That's just way it is!
