Today I'm building some awesome pendant lights using bent lamination. This is a great way to bend wood that involves making a forms and gluing up thin strips of wood veneers to achieve the bend you are looking for. I do this with clamps meaning there is no need for a vacuum press. I made 3 different size lights, 5 total for my house, which meant cutting out 65 veneers. Bent lamination may seem complicated, but the process is more repetitive than anything else and certainly takes dedication to get it done. But it is definitely worth the time it takes to create something that adds a unique visual interest.
Another cool feature is the metal shade. I used strips of aluminum and painted them to match the color scheme we have going on in our home. I love the way the hard maple and colored metal contrast and add a modern touch to a minimalist design. The metal shade is held in with a friction fit, making it easy to update the color in the future. Just think of the possibilities in your own house!
I used custom white cords and fixtures in the lights too. So this build has a ton of stuff, wood bending, sheet metal bending, electrical wiring, and more!
I hope this inspires you to make your own bent lamination pendant lights for your house! Enjoy the build! Let me know what you think in the comments!

I had an idea to incorporate bent lamination into a light fixture then saw this video. Great production and workmanship. Subscribed.

Hello, great project and very nice looking. Have you ever considered or had to joint the edges of both half circle forms each other? I know you butt glued the edges and is just popped in my mind that the envoirment could cause separations on the glued edges of the half circle forms? If it s necessary to make joints, I wonder how? 🤔
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks Год назад
Thank you! Yeah, I did consider doing lap joints but getting them to align properly would be pretty tricky. Plus the MDF mount adds quite a bit of structure. Which is why I ultimately went that route.

Why not cut the aluminium on the CNC to get clean edges all around?
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks Год назад
I suppose you could, I just didn’t want to deal with the shavings in the shop.

They aren't that bad. I've cut a few bits on mine and clean up is easy.
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks Год назад
Right, but I use the dust in the garden and don't want the metal shavings in there.
@Kosh42EFG
@Kosh42EFG Год назад
That would not be good. Metal chips are cleaned with my shop vac that goes in the bin. My dust collector with wood chip only and goes on my compost heap. Do you use it direct on the garden or composted?
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks Год назад
@@Kosh42EFG We mix it into the compost. But stay away form mixing walnut in, that will kill everything.
