Made a version of it and it works. I put a spring at the screw so it can elevate 5mm from the stocks with tension downward to compensate uneven surface

Great build! Unrelated question, though... your main, long table? Is that a pre-fab or did you make it yourself? If you made it, would you happen to have any plans available? It is very well constructed and looks fantastic.
@acanadianwoodworker

Thanks for your vote of confidence! In reality it's actually a very weak structure - just an extremely simple 2 x 4 skeleton underneath a sheet of 5/8 black melamine (also a weak material). It wasn't until much later I learned how much mass and over-building it takes to make a really solid bench. I've never done plans, only built off the top of my head or from a simple drawing.

Hi I have all the components on order and was just wondering if you simply used a 5/16 bolt and nut to attach the wheel to your customer block? Great idea and thanks for sharing!
@acanadianwoodworker
@acanadianwoodworker 5 лет назад
Yes exactly, just a normal 5/16 bolt. Get the 'Pozi-lock' threaded nut (if you can), it has a nylon stop so any vibration from the saw won't loosen it like a normal nut.

@@acanadianwoodworker Great design! I am about to give it a try, but I don't completely understand how you attached the wheel to the 15mm rod hole. Did you need to make an axle or did the threaded nut just fit snugly into the hole when you locked it down? If you could describe, or post some pictures, would be very helpful.
@acanadianwoodworker
@acanadianwoodworker 4 года назад
@@andremazzella6643 there's a good shot at 1:44. The Rollerblade wheel attaches to the wood block with a 5/16-8 bolt & nut, through the hollow axle of the wheel. Then the 15mm rod clamp attaches to the wood block (here it's bolted on with two 1/4-20 bolts.). Let me know if that makes sense

I like the principle of the Jessum stock guides, but not the price, so your video showing shop-built versions was a welcome search result. Luckily I can get the similar component parts here in the UK, but I have a couple of queries: There seem to be slots on the top of the black MDF block into which the top clamps fit and they appear to be set at an angle to the block edge. Is this the means of setting the 5 degree angle accurately? There is another slot at the other side of the black MDF block. Is this irrelevant, or am I missing something? I would be grateful if you could answer my questions, and I thank you for posting your video - you could save me a few bob!
@acanadianwoodworker
@acanadianwoodworker 5 лет назад
Hi Don, yes every penny counts! Yes the routed slots on the MDF piece were to set the 5 degree angle, and also the dado/groove helped lock those 15mm clamp fittings in place at their correct angle. And yes, the slot on the other side of the MDF was irrelevant, just an early mistake and then I switched to the other side. Thanks for watching!
@jimdavis5u
@jimdavis5u 3 года назад
I'm guessing the allen bolts you're using as wheel axles are 1/4" to attach to the rod clamp assembly, but the wheel hubs are 5/16". Is that tight enough to avoid slop in the wheels?
@acanadianwoodworker
@acanadianwoodworker 3 года назад
The Allen bolt is actually an axle made for those inline skate type wheels, I found them at a nearby shop that sold in-line skate parts, so it was 5/16 to match. Yes you're right, if it was 1/4 on the axle, the wheels would never run properly
@jimdavis5u
@jimdavis5u 3 года назад
@@acanadianwoodworker Ah ok, so is it like a shoulder bolt with a 5/16" diameter shoulder and 1/4"-20 threads on the end?

Question - 5 degrees in at bottom or front to back? or ?
@acanadianwoodworker
@acanadianwoodworker 3 года назад
Good question - yes like front to back. So imagine the plane of the wheel is level up and down, and the five degree is front / back. Basically the end game result is to steer the wood into the fence (but not force it so hard it binds on the fence or anything)
@didoivanov6292
@didoivanov6292 8 месяцев назад
it would have been better if the wooden piece was from the other side towards saw disk,in this way you will have no obstruction between the fence and the wheel,allowing you to use the whole spase for cutting smaller sizes

Would have been great to see the finished article in action. Is there any was a “one way” wheel / bearing etc could be incorporated in to the design? That seems to be the one feature you haven’t managed to replicate. Fantastic job, you’re an inspiration!

I checked out your thingiverse design. Well done! Had a question about the bearings. The ones you link in the thingiverse description appear to have a keyway. Did you need special wheels to accommodate the keyway on the bearings? The link to the wheels you used is no longer working. Just not sure if the keyway of the bearing actually matters. Thanks!

@acanadianwoodworker
@acanadianwoodworker 5 лет назад
Thanks so much for posting Don! Really happy this video helped in some way. And thanks for the mention as well. Yes, great idea about the spring blocks/pads. On my fence, the combination of a not really sturdy fence, and the natural slight flexibility of the aluminum rods gives some spring. Your fence looks much sturdier and solid so I imagine this would be a good move to make.
