My administrative training in grad school at a state university included the clinical supervision model of evaluation, which I implemented as principal, so I don't know why she claims that involving teachers in the evaluation process has never been done before. Also wonder about standardized test scores being used as basis for determining student performance. Could be teachers w/students who "outperformed" others were rated low because they were observed using drill & kill & teaching to the test
Micromanagement! It's always counterproductive. Ask all the competent veteran teachers, you'll find out. Which professional profession has this kind of evaluation?
it is not at all unlikely that Danielson’s appraisal of the “problem”, like her dubious experience in the business of education generally, is ridiculously overstated to the point of being driven merely by connection rather than by qualification. Charlotte Danielson, like Willard Daggett and others of her kind are not honest people. Evil follows her.
This method is being used to harass teachers all over the place. Sounds great in theory but ignores social / emotional / economic/contextual issues that hijack our work, and so this system places the blame on us. Yes, the quality of teaching in the classroom is an important issue. But not as important as what comes from home. Has she ever taught in the inner city? Students who arrive late every day, cut, high? Oh, guess that is our fault.
Good point! it's a reality of actual usage of SET. it essentially puts students as customers when it's used for administrative purpose, a kind of dishonest behavior, but widely applied.
