Time to make things over complicated! I'm going to use the process I learned from ClickSpring's video here: • Antikythera Fragment #... to case harden this axe head. I started with mild steel as it was what fit within the budget of the comission. But then I decided to go out of budget anyway. Ah well.
The Leviathan axe will now be a fully hardened, battle ready piece.
I highly suggest you checkout ClickSpring's videos, they're amazingly well crafted and super informative and entertaining! Start with the clock!

Yaaay it worked! I really liked this video, lots of good moments. Also right before you put the flour on the floor, I was like "why doesn't he put flour on the floor?" ^^

It did work, but it's definitely a temporary solution. It lasted a few weeks before it wore out.

That was smart using Clickspring's method. Proooooobably should most definitely likely buy some good clay, like you said

If I do something this large again, I will definitely weld up a box fox it. That has the added benefit of no dry time and less messy... I just didn't have steel for it. For small stuff though? Definitely.

They make a stick back carbon fiber for my big belt sander cut it down im sure it would work amazon sells it !!!

Yeah the clay from your backyard is probably not pure clay, around this area it probably has humus and silt mixed in.

Get some finishing sanding belts I know you can get em online from the alixsteel store in the USA that'll help a lot

That would also help, I’m sure. My machine has some vibration issues I’ve been slowly fixing over time and those fixes have greatly improved the problem. Soon it’ll be time to build a whole new machine. I’m looking at the crazy overbuilt Jeremy Schmidt plans....

I should get t-shirts made that say "It depends(tm)" :D But let's say for another one, basically the same as this? At least $1,000. Assuming I could do it faster the second time. The final episode will be up by Sunday, so check it out and see how it looks all put together!
