Honestly, Notion was great ... as a concept for me. Actually using it was a pain, full of distractions because of all the customization. I wanted to use it as a productivity tool and I tried so hard for a couple of years. But I noticed that I really had trouble opening my Notion as I was looking against having to work in it. Made the switch to my good old friend Trello last week. There are things which Trello could do better, but been a lot more productive and motivated since I started using Trello again.
So well said!! Yes, Notion is so cool in concept, but in reality, it's a little too much of a good thing (customization). What is the primary way you are using Trello?
@@KellyLGabelWell I use Trello for managing and keeping track of my video scripts (I run 3 RU-vid channels), and my second use is as a habit tracker. With the automation I set up that every morning I receive a mail in which it says which habits I completed each day and which ones were unfinished which I was supposed to do. I also use automation to add the habits in trying to stick to the 'today' column. I also use automation to get a report each week giving me an overview of all my video ideas in working on with their current stage (writing, filmed, edited, planned, ...). These mails help me a lot to start productive and keep my head clear and more focused on what needs to happen. I'm a stay at home dad trying to earn from home, so it's important I actually get things done and be productive. :p
This is the main reason why I don't recommend Notion for productivity. It is basically one big rabbit hole for procrastination due to all the customization. It's cool to be able to do that, but when you are using it for productivity, you want to stay clear of anything that can distract you from what you are doing. For me, with kind of an ADHD-mind who sees opportunities for optimization and customization everywhere, Notion is a nightmare and a beautiful challenge at the same time. But I'll stick with Trello for most things because of the fact that it, in comparison, doubles down on being awesome at the most fundamental things! I love going into Trello, I dread going into Notion. That says enough, right? I do miss the customization of View that Notion has. If Trello had that, I would not even look at Notion.
Totally! It's so interesting to me that I see all kinds of people praising Notion FOR those with ADHD. To me, it's the exact opposite!! Also, if you bump up to Trello premium, you get a lot of the views Notion has... or you can leverage power-ups for some of them.
Notion can do everything Trello can do but much more... and that's the problem. For many, it's a trap because they spend more time customizing and designing than working on projects.
haha, ya I was super bummed when they ended their affiliate program, but I still recommend them all the time! Hopefully someday, they will bring it back! @trello
