I've never seen results that good for a driveway job, I mean, not even close. Your idea of 'some orange peel' is not the same as most others! Great tutorial on getting that glass finish, as per usual! BTW, what a gorgeous vehicle!
Thank you Owen, I guess you're right about my idea of orange peel isn't the same as most other people would see it, LOL I'm always trying to show the best results straight out of a gun, it wasn't bad this time around, if it wasn't as warm as it was that day and clear had a little more time to flow out before it set up, it would've looked even better, that's what I'm going for every time
Thank you splash, I've been wanting to restore a classic vehicle for a while now, I'm almost dreading getting into this project because I know how much time it's going to consume, but I know it will all be worth it in the end. Hope to have a show winner with this truck
Super glad I stumbled upon this video , I don’t own a rolls Royce nor do I have the amount of skills to achieve such a fantastic job like you did, But it was super satisfying to watch! Great job! Keep the content coming! Cheers from a new fan!
You really crushed it there buddy. I'm sure your friend is beyond grateful. The results you got would be hard to believe had I not seen it with my own eyes. Then again, the media would be happy to lie and tell me my eyes are lying to me. 🙂 Please let us know your first name if you see this message ever. And your buddy ..? I'm guessing he owns a limo service, and savings like this are the difference between being profitable and taking serious losses. You're a life saver.
My notification did not come in. I have the bell highlighted as always. HUM, I will look at your channel manually, I do not want to miss any of these videos!
I am pleased to hear that I've made it to the top of your watchlist along with Arthur's videos. Just like you I watch his new releases every Sunday morning !!!
Thank you Orian !!! It for sure would be nice if YT algorithm pick up my channel... If I actually started to make some money on here then I for sure could spend more time filming and posting alot more content.
Shit i would say it was my buddies car if i was fixing my own rolls Royce too 😂😂!!! “Nah this not mine, this my homies” aka mind your business 😭👍🏾 excellent video man!! I can tell you enjoy what you do because you take your time. Shoutout to the camera man as well!! He was working just as hard!!
Thanks man!! I definitely spent more time on this one then the usual, cause I wanted it to be perfect since it's not your run of the mill kind of a car...
Thank you. Perfect timing discovering your channel. I’ve been painting/correcting a black 2002 Subaru Legacy BH a panel at a time using RU-vid for guidance. Your Rolls videos have helped me the most.
In a word..."WOW!" Thanks for sharing. Can't believe the result you got, especially doing it all 'outdoors'. The 'wind' God's were definitely with on the painting days... Well done, looks MINT!!!!
Thank you Dominic !!! It took me a while to figure out how to make things work "outdoors" but once you get it, then painting outside works out almost good as doing it in a controlled enviroment
Thanks man... Yeah it's a pretty dope ride... about a year ago I've fixed another one of those, I'll have the videos on that rebuild posted here pretty soon.
Thank you Philip, I am pleased with the way it turned out, I put quite a bit of time into this repair and it sure did pay off. Truck videos will be out shortly :-)
I’ve disabilities and I stand more chance of walking on the moon than ever painting a car. I initially clicked on your cheap gun videos as I got one with my small compressor and I thought it was worth a look for painting my small projects. After watching those two videos and your entire Rolls Royce series I’m still here. I really enjoyed your not over complicated presentation style because I need information in as simple form as possible. A definite subscribe.
Great job my friend ! Thanks for the cut and buff tips very helpful ! Quick question you said to slow down the buffer I’d there a regular speed they should be set at or are they all one speed ? Any way thank you for being so informative a loyal watcher from Missouri
Thank you !! And to answer your question, my Makita is a variable speed buffer, meaning there is a small selector wheel that I can turn the speed up or down with, I can also Control the speed of the buffer with the different pressure on the trigger, normally run the buffer at around 1200-1500 RPM, but whenever I get to the areas where "you have to be careful" I'll drop the speed to about 500 RPM and also lighten pressure on the buffing pad... That normally works for me, CHEERS from Seattle !!!
Man...Do you have any idea...on how difficult...it is to do anything with black...canvas...& The Glossy Black mirror Look is Top Shelf" The Lexus Black Paint Is AMAZING...Wow? And everything is OUTSIDE" DUDE..
i still cant believe the owner had this done to that poor Rolls...if you can afford this car you shoud be able to afford thousands in repairs... sure the work is top notch, you'd almost never know it was done...but its still a rolling bondo bucket... Still as i said top notch work
Believe it or not but there was already some Bondo on the quarter panel that I was working on, found that out once I start removing some of the paint to get down to the bare metal, so that Rolls was a Bondo bucket even before I started working on it :-)
The new parts would have cost some 26 K, plus labor and paint at least another 6 K, That would bring the total cost to about 32 K. How much did the rapair cost?
You are correct, this would've been a pretty costly repair and if it got taken into a shop someplace. Since this was my best friend's car he got a steep discount on labor, I don't want to embarrass myself by saying how much I actually charged him because the charge was very low...
Every step of the repair was approved by a friend of mine who is the owner of this Rolls-Royce. He did not want to pay extra to get the glass removed. I wasn't going to do it for free 😎
He actually did sell it just very recently. Obviously he did the full disclosure of the damage with pictures and a video. Buyer was very pleased with the quality of finish... No complaints... My friend did just recently get another vehicle that I'm currently working on for him. But unlike the Rolls-Royce this other project is going to be much, much easier and quicker, it's mostly just cosmetic damage and paint... I'll have a video of it here pretty soon
Generally on flat areas I keep the RPMs around 3000-3500. Once I start getting closer to the curves I slow down, lower buffer speed means less friction temperatures thus reducing the chance of a burn through especially around panel edges or body lines
I am not sure who puts a thumb down for this..maybe it was a Rolls Royce employee from their body shop..who knows. From the first video you put out on this prohject, I was hooked. Partly thinking, can this guy pull this off? As you got through each stage, I was now thinking, you really know what you are doing and doing this all outside took real guts ! By no means am I a car body expert, however this serves as a real inspiration to those wanting to work on their own projects at home. Amzing work and you should be proud of bringing back a future British classic Automobile. Hats off to you sir !..Cracking job !
Thank you Paul, I am currently working on another Rolls-Royce. And as you probably guessed by now is once again getting done in a driveway :-) I have seven or eight videos to post before the new Rolls-Royce videos will drop. But they are coming in the near future, stay tuned my friend :-)
I can't say that I'm surprised at the end result, it came out looking like OEM and which side of the Rolls was damaged? You can't tell. Nice tutorial on the steps in the process. Your next project is going to be even more interesting. I hope it won't be too long before you start posting videos on it. Interesting that while you were showing the finished paintwork on the rolls, it showed up all the spots of dirt on my laptop screen!!!! I thought my screen was pretty clean already? Stay safe and all the best from Queensland Australia.
Thank you Bruce, I've already done some filming on the truck and working on a video as we speak, hopefully I'll have it out tomorrow. It's going to be a long project, these frame off restorations are never quick :-) plus I am doing a resto mod so there's gonna be a lot of custom things I would have to fabricate and build to make this truck what I want it to be. I'm pretty sure there's gonna be other projects that I will start and finish alongside of this truck. So hopefully I'll have this thing will be done by spring so I can enjoy in the summer :-)
I did post a video but it's been over a month ago, summer is a really busy season for me work wise , but I am slowly working on other videos. They will be coming soon, I promise :)
Thanks man... It did turn out good, it was one of those projects where I had to spend some extra time on to make it perfect. And in the end it was worth the effort 👍
Thank you Matthew!! I do take a lot of pride in my work, always try to get better and better results than the time before. RU-vid is a great outlet to share my knowledge that I've gathered over the years, especially if folks find the info in my videos helpful...
@@fix206 if one don't like the thick orginal rims, you should put something like this on the car ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sooSvPkKGTc.html
Thank you Eddy... That Rolls Royce job did turn out great. It was probably the most expensive vehicle that I've worked on, so there was some pressure to make it perfect. And I think I've succeeded...
That 3m compound is crazy expensive nowdays. Its way cheaper to do what you did going up to 3000 grit to polish it up as much as possible before buffing. where did he get the rolls? copart? insurance auction?
You aren't kidding about the price of the compound, I'm actually thinking about stepping it up to 5000 after 3000, spend a few extra minutes sanding/save a few bucks in compound cost possibly get even nicer finish. I think he picked it up the Rolls at the copart...
Awesome, thank you! I usually try to cram as much of useful information into my videos as I possibly can, because I know some folks out there could benefit from that... Cheers...!
Probably more......my gmc sierra duramax needed the driverside doors replaced/repaired, part of the bedside as well and a new rear axle....insurance quote was $35k.......I was shocked when they went for it, I thought for sure they were gonna salvage it out, it too is black and fully loaded slt model with lots of upgrades $100k truck 10 years ago.....now maybe $55k on a good day....don't even have 75k mi on it yet!!!.........that rolls turned out phenomenal, damn I wish I would have just had them salvage me out...I would have just brought my truck back to you to make it great again, for far less than $35k
Thanks Matt, I really tried making this one absolutely perfect and I think I nailed it. Now this next one will take me a good bit of time to complete, hope to have it done by spring and maybe enter it in a Good Guys show in August if this whole corona BS will blow over by then
There are a couple of auto paint stores that are local to me, one of them is overpriced though. So I normally go to the other place that's a bit more reasonable. And they are pretty good about nailing the color down for a good match
@@fix206 if I'm not mistaken you are Washington state based. If so can you pls suggest the store, I have a home project too which needs a paint job that I want to do myself. Thank you in advance.
If you are in Puget Sound area you should have no problem finding a Wesco auto body store in your area. They are pretty spendy though, I am in Auburn/Federal Way area, the store where I normally go to is down in Auburn Valley it's called "automotive industrial paint supply" their prices are a lot more reasonable
