Making Tree Ring cake (Baumkuchen)
Baumkuchen is a German variety of spit cake. It is a traditional pastry of many European countries throughout, and also a popular snack and dessert in Japan. The characteristic rings that when sliced resemble tree rings, and give the cake its German name, Baumkuchen, which literally translates to "tree cake".
Baumkuchen is one of the most popular pastries in Japan, where it is called baumukūhen (バウムクーヘン?). It is a popular return present in Japan for wedding guests because of its typical ring shape.

Looks lekka but it is not Baumkuchen. The making is similar but the difference is that the German one look like real cut from tree trunk from the outer texture. Thanks for sharing Japanese Baumkuchen.

Thank you. This style of cake is super popular in Japan. Many department stores bake it in-house and they sell very quickly. They actually call it Baumkuchen in Japan although I realise that it is differnet from the German Baumkuchen.

christian prarat japanese baking is often based on european recipes. They used mostly rice flour to make candies and pastries for a long time. There was a long period of no cultural trade so they never grew wheat or many other types of grain besides rice

dinolandra you are wrong. There are trade with German, Italian, Poland and other Europeans back in early 1900 All Japanese grown up with European sweets. Not many foreigners know especially Americans

It is. "Baumkuchen" is a combination of "Baum" (tree) and "Kuchen" (cake) and referes to the layered design of the cake. A german cook (seemed to have) invented this in the 16th century. In the book "Ein neues Kochbuch" from Marx Rumpolt, a recipe for baumkuchen is to be found. It seems to be a mixture of traditional German pastaries and their preparation and some inspiration of Hungarian style cooking (probably the origin of the Skewer idea). So in a sense it seems to be a mixture of German and Hungarian cooking.

I personally recommend "Salzwedeler Baumkuchen" /watch?v=ALxaT5V1cAA This is a video (in german) where Baumkuchen are created from scratch. While some steps are modernised, the main process (and the grilling technique) hasn't changed from the 17th century.

That's because the ends is where the cake is the driest, because their width isn't the same as the other, they are baked at a faster rate, and by the time the whole tree cake is baked, the tips would have become over-baked. It is normal in most restaurants and cafe, to cut away the tips of the food (for example, a chicken roulette generally have their ends cut away, sliced in the middle and presented).

It's not out of pitch, you're just not used to hearing that type of Asian music. There's this handy button on RU-vid called the "Volume" feature which lets you make the audio quieter or even *Mute*. Try it sometime instead of whining.
