While this was and will be more work, it does save money over buying new material. Since nearly anything I would do with this wood involves the same amount of work, there's no avoiding it if I want to use it. Here are some ways that you can help support the work I do in making these videos: Plans for sale: www.ibuildit.ca/plans.html Patreon: www.patreon.com/user?u=865843&ty=h Website: www.ibuildit.ca/ Facebook: facebook.com/I-Build-It-258048014240900/ Instagram: instagram.com/i_build_it.ca/ Google+: plus.google.com/u/0/b/107142665853474113931/

I have been in construction /property development for decades. I recycle as much as I am able and so store various bits n pieces. Guaranteed that when I eventually get rid of something I discover that I could really use it 2 weeks later !! Typical !

As a gardener, I would have loved to have all those shavings to add to the soil. I am sure you have noticed the excellent black soil around sawmills.

I use recycled wood all the time. One thing I don't own yet is a metal detector wand to make sure nothing is hidden in the wood. I've been lucky so far and not hit a hidden nail or screw.

+peggyt1243 Adding vast quantities of wood to soil is also a fast way to deplete it of nutrients. Wood really ought to be properly composted before incorporation into soils, or added gradually over long periods so that it can naturally break down, especially if you want to grow anything without having to heap on fertilizers.

Bait and switch! The video thumbnail had me thinking that you painted the ugly yellow planer a beautiful green. Dang. Well played.

I have the same planer and have had success in extending the life of the blades by passing a diamond stone lightly over the blades when they start to get dull (only takes a few minutes). I wouldn't say it takes them back to original but definitely improves the cut for a while longer. I'm the same way with recycling materials whenever possible.

Hey John, good choice. Great material to work with since your going to paint it anyway, and it makes room in the shed. Alot of work but worth the effort.

Trall la lal, Trall la lal lalar. I thought we were off to the Circus. Made me smile. You definitely put in a good days work. But now you have reminded me I need to sharpen my Jointer and plainer blades. So I don't know if I should give you a thumbs up because now I have work to do. :)

That looked like one long boring planing session... You need some bluetooth-enabled ear muffs !!! (so do I...)
@IBuildItHome
@IBuildItHome 7 лет назад
I was thinking a quieter planer, actually. That thing sounds like a jet engine and is just as loud.
@Wordsnwood
@Wordsnwood 7 лет назад
I'd love to either get a helical head for this unit, or a 15" induction motor unit ... don't know of any other options to quiet it down.
@IBuildItHome

One is to sell it and buy a Makita. The Makita is more compact, along with being much quieter.

@krtwood
@krtwood 7 лет назад
The Makita screams like a banshee if you hook it up to serious dust collection though. I have to leave another gate half open. It may well be the airflow from the built in fan that makes the Dewalt louder.
