Cornhole is a super fun game and building cornhole boards can be a great way to spend a few hours. I decided to take things a step further and added LED lights to the boards along with some epoxy.

I love that you don't pretend to be perfect. That's one of my favorite qualities in you. You own it, learn from it, and work on making it better. I watched you on TV now I'm watching you here, plus your FB page. Thanks Eric. 😊

I learned that lesson with epoxy the hard way too early on. What I started doing was using a spray poly first where I was going to use epoxy. Helps keep the epoxy dye from bleeding into the surrounding wood.

As others have pointed out nice to see you show hickups along the way not just a cut to finished project. Another tip you can try to eliminate bleeding in the grain of the wood is to brush on a thin layer of clear epoxy to all edges of routered channel before pouring colored epoxy to keep grain of wood from wicking colored epoxy.

Jeeeeeeezus, you're attention to detail is so refreshing! If something is worth doing, it's worth doing 110%. I say 110 because I ALWAYS end up doing more than originally planned. Now I just wish I had the space and money to have your tools. Keep up the great work!

I like that hot glue dam idea. Always wondered if painters tape would have been enough, but I think you said that's where the bleed came from on the perimeter. To echo others', I do appreciate your transparency in making mistakes. So reassuring to a DIYer like myself and others!

Could also use a solid powder pigment, that won't leach in like the dye does.

Great video. I really appreciate the fact that you always share so honestly about your mistakes. That way you are able to learn from them and you enable others to learn from them too! That's a great quality! Your board is awesome and the lights are a super cool bonus feature. Looks like Buddy is enjoying it already! Hope you guys have a great Memorial Day weekend! Have fun & stay safe! God bless!!

Brushing a thin coat of clear epoxy in your groves and the top edges along side them and letting that cure up a bit before pouring the tinted epoxy in will fix your bleed through problem 👌👍

Another option is to just mix up some clear epoxy and brush a thin coat into those grooves first. Similar to the guy who suggested spraying poly but the epoxy would be that much more durable of a barrier against the colored epoxy.

Awesome! I love it man. One problem l forsee in your future though. You might as well start planning on designing and parting in your own battery pack with a micro toggle switch. I've used those exact (and similar) battery/switch boxes on many projects. They turn out to be notorious failures in fairly short (no pun intended) order. ESPECIALLY when the slightest moisture and vibration is involved. Now l just build my own. Its super easy, 1000% more reliable and l can upscale to C or D size batteries for more life as those COB LEDs in series are notorious battery hogs. Great idea though! And thanks for the practical tips on the epoxy color bleed issues. I can now see that as being a potential problem in a project l had been eyeballing in my future. Now l can plan for that.

I’ve seen the leaching of dark epoxy before, even with hardwoods so use a polyurethane to seal the wood inside the rabbets and that should take care of it absorbing into the fibers of the ply or for all other wood.

Great to see Buddy again and fun to watch him run around and play! The game board turned out really nice! I didn't know that epoxy could bleed through. Good to know if I ever try something like that. Would it have been possible to paint over that area? I enjoyed your video and the game looks like a fun one to try! Have a great weekend! :)

Its called Whicking - the grain is pulling the paint into it. seal the board prior to epoxy and you wont have it at all.

Thanks Shane, I've heard good / bad using seal with epoxy. I haven't tried yet but will probably do some tests.

I don't know much about epoxy but I recently watched a video about tinting epoxy and they recommended using grout to tint and it doesn't stain the wood.

Nice job! Weight has always been a concern for me, so I start with 1x4's, and put a cross brace in the middle, with a 1/2" deck. But I am a firm believer in whatever works for you. There are some real cornhole snobs out there.
@CraftsmansLegacy
@CraftsmansLegacy 3 года назад
I really considered using 1/2 but was concerned about too much bounce. Cool to hear it's working for you though!
@Myopicvisions
@Myopicvisions 3 года назад
@@CraftsmansLegacy I have heard a lot of people express that same concern, but with a cross support in the middle they are stiffer, stronger, and lighter than 2x4 and 3/4" ply construction. I recently tried all Baltic birch plywood construction because several manufacturers I know make them that way, but the weight is much worse.
