I have the Milwaukee M12 version of this. Probably not near the torque of this new Makita model, but for certain tasks, it's amazing. For tile and small cutoff jobs it's great. Where it gets to WOW! factor for me is cutting hardware cloth and expanded steel mesh. Though it does a great job with thin sheet metal, the noise is unnerving to me. That's why I jumped on the nibbler tool as soon as I saw it. Having the ability to cut odd things of various materials with a tool this small is very cool.

Great review, surprised it performed so well. I've got the M12 version and always been a bit disappointed. Would love to see this compared with the M12. Also noticed the non-Milwaukee consumables in this size are a bit hit and miss, great to see other brands bringing this size grinder to market.

I ended up purchasing the Dewalt one when it was released because I was so disappointed in the M12 version. I have found the extra oomph from the 18V platform is enough to stop it bogging down in most scenarios. I assume it's the same for the Makita. I have found it absolutely chews through the sacrificial cut-off discs though.

Great video; a fair demonstration of many potential use cases. I have a few questions (other can feel free to chime in). I don't currently own an angle grinder but I have invested in the 18V makita platform pretty extensively. 1. With a view mainly to cut tiles for renovation purposes as a DIY enthusiast, would I be better off with one of the "bigger brother" offerings from Makita (115/125/230mm) instead of the DMC300 (76mm)? 2. That said, I would like to know if it's possible to use this model as a grinder, replacing the cutting disc with one with a grinding face, as the dust collection shroud cannot bevel as mentioned in the video. Using a grinding wheel would allow to reform the edge profile of a tile freehandedly, without having to cut the tile. 3. I have seen a few 76mm grinding discs on offer, but with thicknesses of 10-30mm per disc, I'm not sure if they would be compatible the machine (not enough tolerance). You mentioned that the cutting discs come in at a 1mm thickness, so I assume any thicker would not be compatible with the machine. Additionally, there's the small issue of a non-variable rpm of 20,000, which limits the range of cutting/grinding discs that can be safely used with the DMC300, as some 3rd party cutting/grinding discs on offer have a max rpm limit far below that of 20,000 rpm. 4. Would I just be better off buying an angle grinder, or both if I can spare the cash? 5. And can I use this machine solely as a tile cutter, or would it make more sense buying a dedicated (wet) tile saw? 6. Could you actually use this to cut wet tiles (to reduce heat build-up and dust)? Thanks.

Might be good for 5/8” or less mouldings, 5/8”” or less sheet goods. I bought the Milwaukee 12v version last year, great for small tile detail, metal up to about 16 gauge, excellent for cement board and drywall with dust shroud and vacuum (great for overhead drywall cuts, eliminates about 90% of dust)….. so I imagine the Makita, with 18 v behind it would be as good or better for those thing (other than the additional weight)…. The Milwaukee 12v bogs down if you push it two hard …. But it weighs next to nothing, overhead cutting a breeze. The problem for wood cuts is the limited blade selection in 3”, there is aftermarket stuff available on amazon…. I have a few Milwaukee 12 v tools but am predominantly Makita 18v, which is why I’m here for this review
