Excellent news! Theory about the sanders: they’ll have a clip-on battery holder that attaches to their dust extractors. That way you can snake the cord from the battery along the dust extractor hose.

Good observation regarding the battery... Baltic (LT, LV, EE) Makita webite also has "part drawings" for the 4025F (dated February 16th, - they've been there for more than a month now..), and there the BW picture is identical to the photo - slightly different underneath the indicator, but size wise seems to be the same as 4025.

I have a theory about the CG suffix. ConnectX utilizes an attachment to an adapter, and is 40v Max, 36 nominal, like the XGT and LXTx2 tools. Makitas blind end plug ConnectX specific tools in the US have a C prefix instead of X(36v) or G(40v). My theory is an XGT belt adapter that has a corresponding blind end to it will be in the works, so you could use an LXT x 2 adapter with XGT batteries, or throw an 8ah on your hip and use it in an impact with the line coming off of it to your belt. Additionally, the blind end tool plugs could also be used for a potential inverter adapter system that can enable mains power. 40v is alot easier to step down to than 18v, and an adapter box with multiple plugs could very well be suitable for bench top work. For sanders it makes sense to go half cordless (I say half cordless because it goes only to your hip) as many times they are attached to external vacuums, so a cord isn't as cumbersome as say a drill or impact where vacuuming isn't needed. Also, belt packs could take the weight off of the large concrete saw, SDS Max, and other large tools.

Not sure if Makita will really read comments here but have something to say. Started investing into Makita tools since 2008 and wanted to upgrade to the XGT platform after reviews and this is when my enthusiasm started to fade. Wasn't really that impressive in terms of power considering the 40V max branding (Not comparing to LXT!) and the lack of generation changes like the new TD173D is only available in Japan (I know it's an 18v and you can import it but will cost even more). My friend just switched to the yellow side from Makita after 15 years and I too leaning more towards the red side. You get new gen/upgraded tools more often, multi choice of batteries that work with every tool, new innovative battery technology and I could go on. Makita takes so long to upgrade their tools and the 40v only have so many. The multi tool only just getting talked about after 3 years and will take an other year to be available world wide just as an example! The 001 impact driver is just a 40v version of the LXT brother with very little performance upgrade and no newer gen since then (002 is more focused on introducing new tech instead of power upgrade). I know reliability, ergonomics and words like "lasts longer" will always be on their side but other brands not far behind. Also, the edge of large selection of tools on the LXT is getting caught up too. As much as I love Makita think its time to move on...

Feel you here. I switched from a few DeWalt to Makita XGT when I started to seriously building up my tool collection. Mainly the 305mm mitre saw sold me as I was working with limited corded power supply. I have two circ saws, track saw and the mitre saw in 40v, then for framing nailer, drills, drivers, sanders, multi tool, 90 degree drill etc went with Milwaukee. Milwaukee have way more tools available for a more affordable price, and this is in the UK. In retrospect I could've got Milwaukee everything but having two different platforms has it's benefits. The 40v saws are great pieces of equipment but I couldn't justify the price tags of the drills/ drivers/ sanders etc which don't benefit that much from the 40v.

I have a bit of a theory with the corded sanders. Back when Mirka first released the CEROS sander, it had a dirty great big power pack that changed AC wallgas into whatever DC the sander used. I suspect Makita might be doing something similar here, but give you the option of using a battery or a 240v power source. The other thing I wanted to bring up is if I wanted long run time, I'd be wheeling out the extension lead and the trusty Festool ES150. Battery sanders have their place to dress up a handful of mitres, or to quickly prep a single car panel for paint, but its hopeless for doing full house lots or full car rub downs.

I’vebnever really understood cordless sanders. Basically every modern sander is designed to be used with an external vacuum since removing all the dust allows faster sanding and finer finish. And if you’ve already got a vacuum hose coming off the back of your tool it’s not much more annoying to also have a power cord; plus that can be used to control the vacuum automatically without having to deal with bluetooth.

If you're going on the assumption that a "G" in the model indicates it's an XGT tool, keep in mind that the G also refers to a green beam laser as opposed to a red beam. I'd love a more powerful 18V battery, actually. Challenge for Makita would be to design the battery contacts to make it work because they'll put out twice the amount of current to get the same amount of power. I think cylindrical cells will stand up to a lot more physical abuse than pouches will so I could understand Makita being hesitant about building such a thing.

at 0:47s you say "this is all 40V stuff I'm talking about", does that go for all the patents you discuss in this video? Because around 3m:35s/3m:45s you're talking about the add-ons for the impact driver and that seems to be one with the control buttons on the back and centered handle (like the TD173). Hoping Makita finally pushes through those improvements of the TD173 onto the 40V XGT platform and come with a similar impact driver.

@UnderBakedOverEngineered
@UnderBakedOverEngineered 2 месяца назад
@@riba2233If you work indoors/confined spaces you want dust control on everything you can get. The issue is that most historical jigsaw dust collections have been poorly implemented, leading people to not even bother. The smaller the orifice for a vacuum connection, the more care needs to be taken in the design. It's not just about clogging from debris or starving the vacuum itself, but also about the inertial mass of air being moved towards the intake. A high pressure/low flow port will induce less sympathetic airflow that aids debris collection. The more air you have flowing towards the intake port, the harder it is for particles to escape from the collection zone. The answer is to increase the cross sectional area of the dust porting as much as possible, and use blowers/air curtains to corral debris into intakes.

There could be some truth to that idea, but on the battery end. They've got 3x fuses, 1-2x mosfets and 2x shunt resistors in the batteries. Putting in more powerful cells would need 4-5x fuses, 3-4x shunts, and maybe another mosfet.

For the old BL 4025, 23A x 40V= 920W or 23 x 36 = 828 W. With SHD 30A x 40 = 1200W or 30 x 36 = 1080W With UHD 35 x 40 = 1400W or 35 x 36 = 1260W. The old non F BL 4040 I heard is even weaker then the old BL4025 so that 1500W rating looks wrong.

@riba2233 2 месяца назад
You got all the numbers wrong. Continuous discharge ratings are: 4025, vtc5a cells - 25A 4040, vtc6a cells - 30A 4040F, vx40 cells - 50A 18v 1850, vtc5 or 25R cells - 20A Peak numbers are a bit higher, and Makita is quoting them. 4ah is not weaker then 2.5ah, in that case the 8ah would be weaker then 5ah which is not the case
@toolscientist
@toolscientist 2 месяца назад
What is SHD and UHD? The rating is kinda arbitrary, unless Makita tells us what time scale they're using. Continuous discharge to empty is only around 25A, but will be lower when packaged in a battery. Instantaneous can do 70A without hitting voltage limits, but will overheat or trip low voltage in under 1min. I'm guessing Makita's watt rating is based on ~5-10min of use

I've seen that some Makita tools are weaker - less powerful @ BL 4040 non F vs BL 4025, so something is weird about them.
